Expedite work on Yatalakunta tunnel of Sitarama LIS: Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao
KHAMMAM: Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao has directed officials to complete the construction of the Yatalakunta tunnel, part of the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme, within four months. He stressed the need to expedite the remaining 600 metres of tunnel work to meet the project deadlines.
Chairing a review meeting on Friday at Yatalakunta in Sathupalli mandal, the minister, accompanied by Khammam District Collector Mujammil Khan assessed the ongoing works and instructed officials to ensure swift progress.
Tummala emphasised that the Sitarama project is crucial for providing irrigation water to approximately 1.6 lakh acres across the region. He urged officials to complete the pending works promptly to facilitate timely water supply for the upcoming agricultural seasons.

Saraswati Pushkaralu in Telangana: Where rivers meet, faith flows
BHUPALPALLY: On the third day of the ongoing Saraswati Pushkaralu at the Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram, thousands of devotees thronged the Pushkar Ghat, turning the riverbank and roads into scenes reminiscent of the recent Maha Kumbh Mela. With the weekend rush, devotees performed sacred rituals and took holy dips in the river. Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao visited the ghat, took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam and performed spiritual rituals. He also visited the Shri Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy temple and offered prayers to Lord Shiva. Speaking on the occasion, he said the Telangana government was organising the Saraswati Pushkaralu with devotion and grandeur. 'I prayed for the prosperity of Telangana and the well-being of its farmers. May the state flourish with abundant crops and harmony,' he said. He noted that this is the first Saraswati Pushkaralu being held under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The state government, he added, has already begun planning for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu, with clear directions from the CM for early execution of arrangements.

Paddy procurement crossed 50 lakh tonnes: Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar
HYDERABAD: Irrigation & Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday stated that the ongoing paddy procurement has crossed 50 lakh metric tonnes (LMT). Paddy procured during the corresponding period in 2023, when the BRS was in power, was 25.35 LMT, he said. The minister held a review meeting with district collectors and other officials at the Secretariat virtually. Ministers Thummala Nageswara Rao, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar also joined the video conference. After the meeting, Uttam posted on X: 'I am happy to announce that we have now crossed 50 LMT of paddy procurement in Yasangi (Rabi) season. On the same day, 15 May 2023, during the previous regime, the total paddy procurement in Yasangi was 25.35 LMT.' During the review meeting, comparative data was presented to underscore the scale of improvement over the previous years. After analysing the figures, the minister pointed out that in the Rabi 2022–23 season, paddy procurement stood at 25.35 LMT, which increased to 32.93 LMT in Rabi 2023–24. 'This year, in the ongoing Rabi 2024–25 season, procurement has reached 49.53 LMT by mid-May, a historic high and a clear reflection of the Congress government's commitment to farmers,' he said and pointed out that lower procurement levels and inadequate infrastructure had caused operational delays and dissatisfaction among farmers in Rabi 2022–23.

Harish Rao flays Uttam Reddy for misleading people on clearances for SRLIS
HYDERABAD Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao has criticised the present Minister for Irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy for misleading people in the matter of the previous government's efforts to secure approvals and clearances for Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Scheme (SRLIS), including from the Central Water Commission (CWC). Mr. Harish Rao reminded Mr. Uttam Reddy that it was on October 30, 2018 the then BRS government had submitted the detailed project report of SRLIS to the CWC for appraisal and clearances and it was in October 2021 the CWC had accorded the hydrology clearance to the project stating that the availability of water for the project would be 113.795 tmc ft and of which 70.4 tmc ft could be used for the project, including irrigation, drinking and industrial needs. He also released a copy of the CWC letter on water availability and hydrology clearance. In a statement, Mr. Harish Rao said on Sunday that it was the Congress leaders of the Telangana region in the combined Andhra Pradesh who had remained mute spectators to the then rulers' taking (diverting) away Krishna waters to the non-basin areas at the cost of needs of the in-basin areas in Telangana. Even the present Congress government too was following the same by mortgaging the State's interests to A.P. as some leaders' measure of gratification. He accused the Congress leaders of creating hurdles for the project by filing cases in the National Green Tribunal and courts and despite such obstacles the BRS government could complete 90% of the works. Mr. Uttam Reddy's statement that the previous government had failed to secure are clearances to SRLIS was indicating his lack of understanding. He said it was the inefficiency of the present government which could not give water for irrigation even one acre ayacut afresh during the last 18 months. The BRS leader sought to know whether Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects were not taken up to benefit more to A.P. rather than Telangana and the SRLIS would cover the 3.33 lakh acres ayacut proposed under the two projects. Compared to the two projects taken up by the previous Congress government, the SRLIS was taken up to avail 70.4 tmc ft water against 33 tmc ft for the previous projects. Similarly, the pipeline length for SRLIS had come down to 8.56 km against 77 km for the previous project without any inter-State issues.
