Saraswati Pushkaralu in Telangana: Where rivers meet, faith flows
BHUPALPALLY: On the third day of the ongoing Saraswati Pushkaralu at the Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram, thousands of devotees thronged the Pushkar Ghat, turning the riverbank and roads into scenes reminiscent of the recent Maha Kumbh Mela. With the weekend rush, devotees performed sacred rituals and took holy dips in the river.
Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao visited the ghat, took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam and performed spiritual rituals. He also visited the Shri Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy temple and offered prayers to Lord Shiva.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the Telangana government was organising the Saraswati Pushkaralu with devotion and grandeur. 'I prayed for the prosperity of Telangana and the well-being of its farmers. May the state flourish with abundant crops and harmony,' he said.
He noted that this is the first Saraswati Pushkaralu being held under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The state government, he added, has already begun planning for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu, with clear directions from the CM for early execution of arrangements.

Don't politicise calf deaths; blame lies with KCR government: Telangana minister Konda Surekha
HYDERABAD: Stating that the state government responded immediately after the death of calves belonging to the Vemulawada temple, Endowments Minister Konda Surekha on Friday advised the BRS leaders not to politicise the issue. In a statement, she blamed the previous K Chandrasekhar Rao government for the death of the calves, as it failed to keep its assurances on the development of the temple and allocate funds. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed authorities to find a suitable site for construction of a spacious cattle shed. She recalled that the government conducted Saraswati Pushkaralu without any problem, even as 30 lakh pilgrims visited Kaleshwaram during the 12-day event. She also recalled that the government took up development of Bhadrakali temple in Hanamkonda. The 'Kalvakuntla Dandu Palyam batch' which neglected temples was spewing venom on the development works of the Endowments department, she alleged. If the KCR government released Rs 100 crore as promised, the animal shed would have been developed by now, the minister pointed out.

‘Shows apathy': Allahabad HC raps UP government for delay in disbursing Kumbh stampede compensation
The Allahabad High Court on Friday said that the delay in disbursing compensation to the families of those who died during a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela pilgrimage site in Prayagraj showed the Uttar Pradesh government's 'apathy to the plight of the citizens', Live Law reported. A bench of Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Sandeep Jain also directed the state government to furnish details of the deaths and medical handling of those who died or were injured between January 28 and the end of the pilgrimage. The Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state was also told to submit details of the number of compensation claims it had received and settled, and those that are pending. The stampede had broken out at the Maha Kumbh on January 29 as a large number of pilgrims arrived to take a holy bath on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a spiritually significant day in the Hindu calendar. The state government has said that at least 30 persons were killed and 60 others were injured, although several media reports have suggested that the actual toll could be significantly higher. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath had announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for those who died in the stampede. The court was hearing a plea filed by the husband of one of the persons who died. It expressed concern that the woman's body had been handed over to her family without a postmortem being conducted. The judges took note of the serious injuries reported on the woman, including a crushed rib cage, and questioned the lack of official documentation or communication with the family regarding the cause and circumstances of the death, Live Law reported. The bench directed that medical institutions and authorities in Prayagraj be made parties to the petitions and directed them to file affidavits disclosing details of all patients and dead bodies that may have been brought to the facilities and those dispatched by them between the incident and the end of the Mela. The bench was alarmed that the woman's body was handed over to the family in February but compensation was yet to be provided, according to Live Law.

The Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest in Mangaluru holding the Congress government responsible for the death of 11 persons in the stampede during RCB victory celebrations Bengaluru on June 4. D. Vedavyasa Kamath, Mangaluru City South MLA, said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and Home Minister G. Parameshwara should resign owning responsibility for the deaths and injuries to many. The police should register a case against them by naming them as accused, he said. The MLA said the Chief Minister himself, through a social media post, had invited people to attend the victory celebrations. After inviting people, the police were made to cane them. Now Mr. Siddaramaiah was blaming the police for the incident and had suspended senior officials, he alleged. 'Mr. Siddaramaiah who had sought the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Pahalgam attack now should resign owning responsibility for the stampede deaths,' the MLA said. Mr. Kamath said that Mr. Siddaramaiah, who had criticised Maha Kumbh Mela attended by crores of people, could not control the gathering of about two lakh people at the victory celebrations. Hasty decision of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister resulted in the death of innocent people, Mr. Kamath alleged. The BJP workers burnt the posters of Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Shivakumar and Mr. Parameshwara at the protest. Meanwhile, in a statement on Friday, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that Siddaramaiah-led State government had made senior police officials scapegoats to cover up its failure, following the nationwide outrage over the stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Mr. Suvarna said that even Deputy Chief Minister himself had stated that the police were not responsible for the incident. Yet, the Chief Minister, bowing to pressure from the party high command and in an attempt to safeguard the government's image, suspended senior police officials, he alleged. He said that the government was deliberately weakening the morale of the police department.
