MLC Kavitha says she doesn't expect action against her
MANCHERIAL: Asserting that she would not leave the BRS and would always fight to protect the party, MLC K Kavitha on Friday rejected questions of any disciplinary action by the leadership against her. 'I don't believe I will even be served a show cause notice. I do not have any personal agenda. I am fighting to protect the BRS and against those who want a merger with the BJP,' Kavitha said during an informal chat with reporters in Mancherial. She revealed that when she was in Tihar jail in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case, BRS leaders informed her about a proposal for a merger, which she opposed at the time and continues to reject. 'The BJP should not be allowed to undermine the existence of regional parties in the country. It's a proven fact,' Kavitha said, stressing the need for the BRS to maintain its distance from the BJP. Kavitha also condemned the recent killings of Naxalites as part of Operation Kagar and said that BJP leaders lacked humanity. 'When top CPI (Maoist) leader Sambala Keshawara was killed in an encounter, the body was not given to the family for last rites,' she stated. Kavitha also criticised the Union government's refusal to halt Operation Kagar despite political parties calling for its halt. She also accused the Congress government of discriminating against its own leaders by caste, alleging that MP Vamshi Chand was sidelined during the recent Saraswati Pushkaralu and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka ignored during the chief minister's visit to Yadagirigutta.

Later speaking to reporters, Thungathurthi MLA Mandula Samuel said that they urged Natarajan to accommodate one among the six Madiga MLAs in the Cabinet. The legislators said that the AICC in-charge responded positively and promised to take up the matter with the party high command. Meanwhile, Natarajan held review meetings with party leaders from Adilabad and Peddapalli Lok Sabha segments. Adilabad party in-charge Kandi Srinivas reportedly sought the Adilabad DCC chief post. During the meeting with leaders from Peddapalli, Natarajan reportedly enquired about the alleged differences between IT & Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu and MP Gaddam Vamsi. The party leaders reportedly said that it was not a big issue and it could be resolved by holding a meeting with the two leaders. The AICC in-charge also sought details about recent controversy during Saraswati Pushkaralu, where Vamsi's photo was missing from the banners. The meetings will continue on Thursday.

More than one lakh people had a bath at the Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram on each of the 12 days with pilgrim rush peaking during the weekends. Endowment department officials and others heaved a sigh of relief as the event passed off without any untoward incident. The state government had put in place massive arrangements to ensure the success of the Pushkaralu. To bring it on par with the Kumbh Mela, the government allocated Rs 35 crore exclusively for the event. Incidentally, a team of officials, led by Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar, had visited Prayagraj for a first-hand feel of the arrangements. This helped the state administration to come up with a meticulous planning, said a senior official from the endowments department. The official said that Pushkaralu started on a grand note with around one lakh taking a bath on the first day on May 15. The rush of pilgrims increased thereafter with the weekends drawing two to 3.5 lakh people. There was a traffic jam of over 20 km on the weekends. The official said that the Harati program on the banks of the river was a major attraction during the Pushkaralu. Artists from Kashi were specifically roped in for the Harati program, which was watched by around 47,000, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Meanwhile, the pilgrims also visited the Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy temple. Approximately, 2.68 lakh laddus were distributed by the temple authorities, who also arranged for medical camps, which was taken advantage of by around 80, 000 people. The official informed that among the other works, sanitation and hygiene were given priority. Over 950 sanitation workers were deployed for cleaning the premises near the river, while about 33 NDRF and 66 SDRF personnel, 100 swimmers and 35 Singareni rescue team personnel were also deployed at the bathing ghats to prevent instances of drowning. Also manning the area were around 1600 police personnel.
