President Murmu to inaugurate Uttar Pradesh's first Ayush university in Gorakhpur today
It will be the fourth functional university in Gorakhpur district, joining the ranks of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology and Mahayogi Gorakhnath University.
Before the establishment of this university, various regulatory bodies separately oversaw the disciplines of Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Yoga, and Siddha (Ayush). Now, all 98 government and private Ayush colleges across Uttar Pradesh will come under the jurisdiction of Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University.
Located in Pipri, Gorakhpur, the Ayush University has been constructed on 52 acres at an approved cost of ₹ 267.50 crore. It is envisioned as a premier centre for traditional medical education and treatment across Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy. Once fully functional, it is expected to significantly boost medical tourism and the commercial cultivation of medicinal plants in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who played a pivotal role in bringing the project to fruition, aims to promote Ayush systems of medicine and create new employment avenues for the youth and farmers. The university is expected to enhance local incomes by encouraging herb collection and medicinal plant farming.
The foundation stone for the university was laid by former President Ram Nath Kovind on August 28, 2021. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Ayush OPD on February 15, 2023. Recently, evening OPD sessions have also commenced, serving around 300 patients daily. Following the official inauguration, IPD (In-Patient Department) and Operation Theatre (OT) services will be made available. A 28-cottage Panchakarma unit is also ready to offer specialised therapy services.
Meanwhile, plans are underway for a fifth university in Gorakhpur — a Forestry University, as announced by chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Land identification, syllabus design, and construction processes for the same are currently in progress.

Celebrating Senior Citizens Day: Tata AIG Extends Legacy of Trust with Tata AIG Elder Care Health Insurance
NewsVoir Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 21: On the occasion of Senior Citizens Day, Tata AIG General Insurance Co. Ltd. reaffirms its commitment to the well-being of India's elderly population by spotlighting its dedicated health protection policy - TATA AIG Elder Care. Designed exclusively for individuals aged 61 years and above, the policy offers holistic coverage that addresses both medical and lifestyle needs, unique to this stage of life. According to a recent report published by the NITI Aayog, report titled "Senior Care Reforms in India - Reimagining the Senior Care Paradigm: A Position Paper", only around one-fifth of the elderly population in India is covered by health insurance, while nearly 78% remain without any pension coverage. This stark reality underscores a widening protection gap for India's ageing population -- where the majority of seniors are entering their most vulnerable years without any safety net of medical or financial security. With longer life expectancy, rising healthcare costs, and the growing prevalence of lifestyle and chronic diseases, this gap poses a dual challenge: increased dependence on family support and heightened risk of financial distress in the face of medical emergencies. Mr. Dinesh Mosamkar, Senior VP of Consumer Underwriting, Tata AIG General Insurance Co. Ltd., said, "Senior Citizens Day is a reminder of the importance of safeguarding the health and dignity of our elders. With Tata AIG Elder Care, we are ensuring that our senior customers get the right mix of healthcare protection, specialized care, and support services. Health insurance is not just about covering hospitalization costs -- it's about enabling a healthier, more confident life in the golden years." Tata AIG Elder Care covers hospitalization and many more benefits like- * Home Physiotherapy Services through network. * Home Nursing Service for post operative care. * Personalized Health Manager for telephonic assistance with booking appointments, scheduling, and service coordination. * Annual Preventive Health Consultation for dental, eye, and orthopedic consultation. * Home care treatment for dialysis, chemotherapy and pandemic care. * AYUSH treatments (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy) at certified AYUSH hospitals and centres, making healthcare inclusive of traditional systems. * Compassionate Care to assist the insured person in the 'Activities of Daily Living' post discharge from the hospital. * Home Assessment and Modification for Elderly Care/Disability. Financial and technical support for mobility adjustments at home. * Pre-existing Disease Coverage after 24 months of continuous coverage with us. * Exclusive coverage for high end diagnostic tests on OPD basis, ensuring seniors do not compromise on quality care. Internship ofUnani studentcancelled over‘burqa' in Tonk
Bhilwara: Acting on the controversy over wearing burqa during duty hours, the Saadat Hospital in Tonk Thursday cancelled the internship of an Unani student for non-compliance of the medical dress code. Further, the hospital's principal medical officer (PMO), Hanuman Prasad, issued a show-cause notice to the student, Umama Siddique, for allegedly misbehaving with a senior doctor and recording a video in the hospital's labour room. Prasad said the medical department would file a police complaint also against the intern on charges of recording the video, which was made viral on social media violating the privacy of patients in the labour room. The situation became worse on Thursday when Dr Bindu Gupta, who was involved in the initial confrontation with the intern, and her husband Dr Ankit Gupta, received threats from an unknown individual. This prompted the doctor couple to proceed on a seven-day leave, a decision that has caught attention on social media. Local political figures, including Deoli-Uniara MLA Rajendra Gurjar and BJP members, expressed concerns to Tonk collector Kalpana Agrawal, indicating that the issue was unlikely to be resolved quickly. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night?
