Legend's truth bomb for Reece Walsh as Broncos investigate deleted video

Yahoo21-05-2025

Aussie sporting legend Ian Healy says Reece Walsh should have thought about the message he was sending to his legion of followers after the Brisbane fullback posted a video of him punching a friend while wearing a boxing glove to social media. The Broncos star says it was only meant to be a bit of fun with a mate and has apologised for the since deleted TikTok clip, but angry Broncos officials have reportedly launched an investigation into the incident.
According to , Broncos officials are filthy about the timing of the clip, considering Michael Maguire's side have lost five of their last six games and are already under the pump. Walsh has been sidelined with a knee injury across that period but is expected to return for the Broncos in round 13, following their bye this weekend for round 12.
But the footage has shone another spotlight on a Brisbane side already reeling from the fallout of Martin Taupau's reported axing. The veteran prop liked a social media post criticising Maguire's coach style, prompting the club to part ways with the 35-year-old. And the Walsh incident is the last thing the Broncos need as they try to get their season and the club's image back on track.
The superstar Brisbane fullback has taken to social media to explain his actions and insists no one was hurt in the clip. Walsh said it was simply a joke between good friends but admitted to Channel Nine on Wednesday morning that it was "not a good look" for himself or the club and understands that it sends the wrong message about trivialising violence.

"Just having a laugh with my mate, obviously. We don't support violence and stuff like that, but obviously, it's not a good look for myself and that was all [me] trying to have a laugh and a good time with friends," he told Channel Nine.
"I feel like I could have obviously chosen [my actions] a lot better. I feel like just having a laugh with my mate and putting it on social media and stuff like that. It's really important that we try and keep those things away and obviously we don't support violence in those sorts of ways. [Things] probably went a bit too far."
Speaking on his daily breakfast program with Broncos great Corey Parker, former Aussie cricket star Healy questioned why Walsh thought it was a good idea to post the footage in the first place. The Broncos star has hundreds of thousands of followers on his social media accounts - many of whom would be children - and Healy says Walsh should be setting a better example to his young fans
"Just don't show other kids or your bosses," cricket great Ian Healy said on SEN radio. "Don't post it. I don't like it, it's ridiculous. A perfect example of how a professional sportsperson has to be different. You can't do that and have all those followers, most of them young kids and women watching you do that."
Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga says he understands the importance of social media for players as a way of expressing themselves or connecting with fans but concedes it's a double-edged sword that stars such as Walsh should be aware of. "You don't want a reputation for being silly and you don't want to bring yourself, the game or your club into disrepute," Meninga told SEN. "So you try and stay away from all those silly things that harms your brand or allows for opinions from different sections of the community or society."
Plenty of fans believe the Broncos have overreacted by launching an investigation and insist there's nothing in the incident. But it comes amid concerns Walsh - who recently signed a $5 million contract extension - is placing too much focus on his off-field image after launching his own YouTube channel last weekend. As Brisbane's most high-profile player, Walsh has also been central to previous criticism that the club had a 'rockstar' culture that needed fixing.

2025 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds: Ashton Jeanty Tops the Board

It appears Ashton Jeanty is the early favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, with Cameron Ward trailing closely behind. The Las Vegas Raiders selected the talented running back from Boise State with the No. 6 overall pick, while Ward was chosen by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick. Which player will claim this prestigious award? Let's look at the OROY betting board at DraftKings Sportsbook as of June 24. 2025-26 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds: Ashton Jeanty, Raiders: +250 (bet $10 to win $35 total)Cameron Ward, Titans: +350 (bet $10 to win $45 total) Travis Hunter: Jaguars: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total) Omarion Hampton, Chargers: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total) Tyler Shough, Saints: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total) Tetairoa McMillan, Panthers: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total) TreVeyon Henderson, Patriots: +1800 (bet $10 to win $190 total) Quinshon Judkins, Browns: +1800 (bet $10 to win $190 total) Shedeur Sanders, Browns: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) RJ Harvey, Broncos: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) With +250 odds, Jeanty leads the race early. The Heisman Trophy runner-up finished his final season at Boise State breaking school records for carries (374), yards (2,601) and touchdowns (29). He was just 27 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders' 1988 record of 2,628 yards. Jeanty helped lead the Broncos to the 2024 College Football Playoff as the No. 3 seed. Aside from a successful collegiate career, Jeanty is on track for a strong rookie campaign. Coach Pete Carroll said, "Ashton is every bit what we hoped he would look like." "He's caught the ball well, done good stuff, taken everything seriously, terrific effort throughout. We made it a really big deal to him: Everyone's watching you. He's embraced that." Second on the board is QB Cam Ward, who also had a significant collegiate career. In his graduate season, Ward set Miami's single-season record for passing yards (4,313) and touchdowns (39). The ACC Player of the Year became the first Heisman Trophy finalist from Miami since 2002, playing a crucial role in leading the Hurricanes to their first 10-win season since 2017. It is no surprise oddsmakers see the No. 1 overall pick as a contender to win the award. Travis Hunter, Omarion Hampton and Tyler Shough all slot in next at +10000 to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Although he was drafted in the fifth round, the books view Browns QB Shedeur Sanders as a contender as well, with +2000 odds. 'Bolt-esque': Athletics world blown away as Gout Gout shatters records in debut

Aussie sprint sensation Gout Gout has once again drawn comparisons with Usain Bolt after defeating a former world champ and recording a national record at his European track debut. Gout was competing in Europe for the first time in his young career with the 17-year-old being introduced to the men's circuit ahead of the World Championships later this year. Gout was coming up against the likes of former world champion Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Reynier Myer in the 200m at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava. And it didn't take long for the Aussie star to announce himself to his competitors and those watching having chased down Myer on the straight to record a national record of 20.02 and take first place. Gout beat his own national record by 0.02 in what was his first ever run in Europe. The sprinter got off to a solid start and had overtaken Cuban sprinter Mitchell-Blake at the turn, but was trailing Myer. Although the 17-year-old chased down Myer in wild fashion to blitz past his rival and edge closer to that sub-20 mark before his 18th birthday. "I don't feel any pressure. Because as soon as I step out on that track, it's just me by myself and what I've got to do — my favourite thing, and that's to run," Gout said. "So, I just go out there and run and nothing stops me from doing that." Gout's confidence is a worrying sign to his rivals in the world of athletics with the sprinter tracking along the same path as eight-time Olympic gold medallist Bolt. As a 16-year-old, Gout bettered Bolt's 200m record at the same age. Bolt ran 19.93 only weeks out from his 18th birthday, in what was the start of his remarkable legacy. And Gout is edging closer to this time and is still six months away from turning 18. Gout has already joined Bolt as one of the six fastest under-20 athletes of all-time with his 19.98 time. But this was wind-assisted. Fittingly, Bolt made his European debut in Ostrava where Gout made his overnight. When asked about the comparisons, Gout was humbled but admitted he was looking to make his own legacy. "If I could be on that level and just put my little bit of style onto it. So try to be like him but also bring my little personality with me," he said. "Just to know that I may be on the same trajectory and just being compared to the best sprinter of all time is... definitely something I appreciate," he added. And many fans around the world got their first glimpse of Gout against elite competition and were left stunned at the 17-year-old's ability. The likes of 200m champ Noah Lyles would have been watching Gout as he announced himself to the world. Dream European debut ✨ Watch 🇦🇺's Gout Gout power to 20.02 in the men's 200m at @ZlataTretra 😎 First senior race abroad ✅First race ever in Europe ✅First senior win abroad ✅Breaks area record ✅ #ContinentalTourGold — World Athletics (@WorldAthletics) June 24, 2025 This is getting quite Bolt-esque. At 17, close to his 18th birthday, Bolt ran 19.93….Gout Gout's 18th birthday is more than 6 months away…. — Greg Allen (@gregallenRTE) June 24, 2025 As someone who's watched Gout Gout up close a lot now, this phase from 50-150 is only getting better. His start was faster, his launch into the turn was clean - this is electric to watch… A new Aus record on his European debut, can't wait for what's in store over the coming… — Mitch Dyer (@mitchdyerlive) June 24, 2025 Woahhhhh. Gout Gout, who is still 17, wins over 200m on his European debut at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava. The Aussie runs down Reynier Mena (Stockholm DL 200m champion) and improves his national record of 20.04 with 20.02 (0.0). Staggering talent and he will soon go… — Tim Adams (@TimAdams76) June 24, 2025 Think the kids are going to be alright 😳 Wild scenes in the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 overnight. Gout gout improves his national record in his European debut, while Cam Myers knocks down another U/20 national record 🇦🇺 to become the third man in Aus history sub 3:3017 & 19 years… — Mitch Dyer (@mitchdyerlive) June 24, 2025 There was plenty of speculation around whether Gout was going to put more emphasis in the 100m event with the Aussie only competing in the 200m in Ostrava. But Gout admitted he feels he needs more time to get into his stride and there isn't enough room in the 100m. "I definitely like 200 more than 100 because 100 is a bit too short for me," Gout told reporters. "You get the start and then you're already at the finish line." "I really like getting out and getting to my top speed and keep holding it to the finish line. So 200 is great and I love it," Gout added. And the 17-year-old wasn't the only one to stun the athletics world. The Aussies are already making a name for themselves in Ostrava with Cameron Myers breaking the under-20s national record in the 1,500m race. Myers ran 3:29.80 to finish fourth in the race. However, it was the third-fastest time for an Australian ever with the 18-year-old breaking his best by nearly three seconds. 'My fastest races the last two years have been miles. It's a coincidence but it's really good to have a fast 1500m and I'm really pleased to get a PB and my first time under 3:30,' Myers said. 'All 1500s in Europe are loaded right now and a lot of good guys are getting on it. It's pretty good fun to be honest. My next race is in Eugene at the Prefontaine Mile. As always, that will be a great race so I'm really looking forward to it.'

NFL Analyst Suggests Broncos' Backfield Will Determine Depth of Team's Offensive Success

NFL Analyst Suggests Broncos' Backfield Will Determine Depth of Team's Offensive Success originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos' backfield in 2025 will be entirely different than its 2024 version. The Broncos were led by Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin in 2024, combining for 1,009 yards. Advertisement However, with Williams heading to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason and the Broncos' additions of RJ Harvey in the draft and J.K. Dobbins as a free agent, the Broncos' backfield will be headed by the new duo in 2025. The Athletic's Broncos' reporter Nick Kosmider believes this duo will be the driving force for how successful Denver's offense can be in 2025. The excitement in Denver around their rookie running back out of UCF is through the roof. Harvey ran for nearly 3,000 yards in his final two years as a Knight and caught an additional 39 passes for 505 yards. Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey (37) during rookie minicamp at Broncos Park Powered by Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images "Denver drafted RJ Harvey in the second round, and the rookie showcased good hands and crisp route-running ability during the offseason program," Kosmider wrote. Advertisement In his senior year at UCF, Harvey led the Big 12 in yards per attempt, rushing touchdowns, and scrimmage touchdowns. Dobbins arrives in Denver after collecting 909 yards and nine touchdowns in just 13 games for the Chargers in 2023. Kosmider believes the battle between the two backs could be one of the most intriguing in Broncos' training camp. However, it's likely Sean Payton will use the duo as a two-headed monster in the Broncos' backfield as he's done in his past. There's a lot of expectation around quarterback Bo Nix in his second season, with the hope that he rises to the occasion. However, Kosmider points out that Denver's offensive ceiling is more centered around the production they get from their backfield duo than Nix's second-year jump. Advertisement Nix can play as well as he wants, but defenses will find a way to stop the pass if the ground game doesn't pick up steam. Vice versa, if the Broncos can't find production through the rushing attack, it makes Nix's job that much more difficult. The Broncos' offense looks ready for takeoff in 2025, but just as Nix is looking for another year of development, Denver's rushing attack could be the most crucial factor this season.
