Tamil actor Srikanth arrested on drug charges

Indian Express11 hours ago

Actor Srikanth, known for appearing in Tamil and Telugu films, was arrested by Chennai police on Monday on drug charges. Earlier today, Nungambakkam police questioned the actor and blood samples tested at Kilpauk Government Hospital reportedly confirmed drug use.
Srikanth's arrest comes shortly after the arrest of Prasad, a former AIADMK member, who was taken into custody following a pub brawl in Chennai. Prasad was also found to have been using drugs, and Srikanth's name reportedly surfaced during the investigation.
Last week, the Nungambakkam police had arrested John, a Ghana native, for possession of 11 gm of cocaine. A report by The New Indian Express states that Srikanth allegedly procured the drugs from John. However, the police hasn't issued any official statement yet.
Srikanth made his debut in the 2002 Tamil film Roja Koottam, and later starred in back-to-back hits like April Madhathil, Manasellam, and Parthiban Kanavu. In 2023, he debuted in the Telugu film industry with Okariku Okaru. His other popular films include Kana Kandaen, Adavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule, Bose, Poo, Coffee With Kadhal, and Nanban among others. He last appeared in the Tamil film Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal, which released in March earlier this year.

Actor Srikanth Sent To Judicial Custody Till July 7 In Drugs Case

Chennai: Popular Tamil and Telugu film actor Srikanth has been remanded to judicial custody till July 7 by a Chennai court in connection with a cocaine-related case. The actor was interrogated for several hours at the Nungambakkam police station before being formally arrested. According to police sources, Srikanth is alleged to have purchased and used cocaine and maintained contacts with known drug suppliers. His blood samples were sent for medical examination, and reports reportedly confirmed drug usage. The case emerged from a broader crackdown on a drug network that was unearthed following a recent pub brawl involving a former AIADMK member, whose arrest led investigators to a series of other suspects - culminating in Srikanth's arrest. Srikanth, a familiar face in South Indian cinema, debuted in 2002 with Roja Kootam and has acted in nearly 70 films, including notable roles in Nanban, director Shankar's Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit 'Three Idiots'. There has been no official comment yet from Srikanth's legal team. His arrest comes amid an uptick in drug seizures and narcotics-related investigations in Tamil Nadu. The issue has triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition parties AIADMK and BJP targeting the ruling DMK, alleging a breakdown in law and order. The DMK has strongly denied the allegations, defending the police action as evidence of proactive enforcement. The Tamil Nadu Police, for their part, maintain that the prevalence of drug use in the state is among the lowest in the country even according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, and that stringent action is being taken against both peddlers and users. In a recent exclusive interview to NDTV, Director General of Police Mr Shankar Jiwal stated that while Tamil Nadu does not produce narcotics, it has become a transit hub for international drug trafficking, particularly for shipments destined to Sri Lanka and other countries.

Actor Srikanth arrested after police seize cocaine from his city residence

Actor Srikanth CHENNAI: Tamil film actor Srikanth, 46, who has acted in 54 movies including 11 in Telugu and five in Malayalam was on Monday arrested by the Chennai police in connection with a cocaine smuggling racket. The arrest followed the detention of T Prasad, an AIADMK IT wing functionary who is suspected to have supplied the drug to the actor. Srikanth was taken into custody after police recovered cocaine from his residence and confirmed drug use through medical tests. Police said they were probing the involvement of another Kollywood actor, whose identity cannot be revealed at this stage. It all began on June 17 when the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) of the city police arrested Pradeep Kumar alias Prado, 38, of Salem and John, 38, a Ghana national in Nungambakkam for possession of 11g cocaine. Based on information provided by Pradeep, police learned that the drug was sourced from T Prasad and sold to Srikanth at a pub in Nungambakkam in May. Police subsequently raided Srikanth's residence in the Nungambakkam Lake area and recovered small quantities of cocaine kept for 'personal use'. Srikanth was detained for questioning and later arrested after his blood samples tested positive for narcotics. He was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for an examination and produced before the II metropolitan magistrate court in Egmore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ¡Revoluciona tu mundo digital con recomendaciones tech! Mandarina - Tráfico Más información Undo Police said Prasad was earlier arrested following a drunken brawl at the same pub. Further investigations into his activities led to the unearthing of multiple criminal links, including drug trafficking, a job scam and attempts to influence police officials. At least six cases have been registered against him so far. He was detained under the Goondas Act as well. Sources said two police personnel — sub-inspector Mani Durai and constable Senthilkumar — were also arrested on charges of assisting Pradeep Kumar in a fake job racket. Senthilkumar, who served as the personal security officer to CPM MP Su Venkatesan, was picked up from Madurai and brought to Chennai on Thursday. Another SI from the Coimbatore Anti-Terror unit has also been detained based on digital evidence. The job scam surfaced during investigations into the pub brawl involving Prasad, AIADMK functionary Ajay Vandaiyar and history-sheeter Nagendra Sethupathi. So far, at least three complaints have been registered in Nungambakkam and Mylapore police stations.
