
American School of Bahrain celebrates second graduation ceremony
Bahrain - The American School of Bahrain (ASB) recently held the graduation ceremony of its second cohort of students for the 2024-2025 academic year. The event was attended by H.E. Ms. Nawal Ibrahim Al Khater, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education, along with school officials, parents of the graduates, and a host of guests.
ASB's Director Dave McMaster, remarked, 'The graduates of this class embody our vision of developing a generation that is aware, skilled, and ready to lead positive change for a better tomorrow. We are proud to be part of the remarkable educational landscape of Bahrain, strengthened by the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the consistent support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This support has allowed us to deliver an education that meets the highest global standards.'
Dr. Juan Saavedra, Middle and High School Principal, also shared his pride in the students, saying: 'Today is not just a conclusion; it's the start of a promising future. Our students have shown their strength and talent in all areas, and we are sure they will continue to excel and enrich the world around them. We deeply appreciate the Ministry of Education for its dedicated support of private schools, in line with its commitment to public education.'
Established in 2020, ASB offers a comprehensive American and international educational program, alongside the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school emphasizes academic excellence, innovation, global-mindedness, and community leadership. It was recently awarded an 'Outstanding' rating by Bahrain's Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA), the highest rating a school can achieve.

Friends for Diabetes Society concludes "The Superhero" programme
The programme was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Private Education Authority and was sponsored by Gaia Healthcare. The ceremony was attended by Khawla Al Haj, Chairperson of the Friends for Diabetes Society, Iman Rashid Saif, Director General of the Health Promotion Department, along with several government officials and principals from participating schools. Now in its 13th edition, the program ran throughout the academic year starting from September 2024. It witnessed remarkable engagement from students, parents, and educators, with participation from 70 public and private schools across various regions of Sharjah, benefiting over 55,601 students. A total of 1,642 educational workshops were conducted within schools to promote health awareness, in addition to several health exhibitions, school visits, and awareness competitions. A total of 205 creative works, demonstrating students' understanding of diabetes, were submitted and evaluated by specialized assessors. On this occasion, Khawla Al Haj, Chairperson of the Friends for Diabetes Society stated: "'The Superhero' program is not just an initiative—it's a social and humanitarian message highlighting that true heroism lies in awareness, acceptance, and support. Through this program, we aimed to empower children with diabetes and foster a culture of prevention and inclusion within the school environment. The overwhelming engagement we witnessed from students, their families and educators, confirms that investing in awareness is an investment in a healthier and safer future." The event concluded with the honoring of 51 winning students and 12 participating schools, in recognition of their creativity and excellence across the program's activities. The ceremony reflected a strong sense of community involvement and fruitful collaboration between the health and education sectors.
