Vera fans have been left devastated after the show's creator shared a bleak update about the future of the franchise.
Fans have marvelled over the tales of Detective Vera Stanhope on screen and in writing for years.
The TV show, Vera, has become a much-loved and acclaimed series since its debut in 2011.
It was based on the novels by the talented Ann Cleeves, however the author has revealed a devastating blow to fans.
According to the Express, the acclaimed writer shared at Bath Literature Festival that there would only be one more addition to the detective novels.

She said: 'There will only be one more Vera novel,' subsequently hinting with a playful comment: 'But I probably won't kill her off!'
The writer cheekily added: 'Well, that was a bombshell, wasn't it?'
According to the publication, fans were devastated by the news and expressed their dismay on social media.
One reportedly penned: "She can't do that.'
Another asked: 'Does this mean there will be no more Vera books?'
It comes after Vera fans broke down in tears and made a desperate plea to ITV bosses as the final season kicked off in January.
The detective series is famed for its compelling storylines, mysteries and captivating performances.
However, Oscar-nominated actress Brenda Blethyn, 78, who stars as DCI Vera Stanhope in the show, has hung up her infamous trench coat and hat and bid farewell to Northumberland and the North East with one last season.
Fans who tuned into the first episode on New Year's Day were left sobbing just seconds into the show.
They took to social media to demand that similar detective shows are made to fill the Vera-shaped hole forming in their hearts.
'I'm going to miss watching #Vera on @itv. Straightforward detective drama with no OTT stories or officers with hang-ups or dark secrets. Need more like this!'
'Can't believe it's the last Vera. Have enjoyed every episode.'
'1 of 2 final episodes of #Vera. Honestly I've been watching this for such a long time, one of the only shows mum and myself will sit and watch together and try to figure out who done it. Sad to see it ending. Brenda Blethyn is an icon.'
'Great episode tonight, kept me guessing right to the end. Gutted the series is ending. #Vera'

Cause of death for vulnerable boy, 16, who vanished while on holiday sparking a massive four-day search is revealed

The cause of death of a vulnerable teenage boy, who went missing while on holiday, has been revealed in an inquest today. Athrun Lombardo, 16, was first reported missing on May 10, while he was on holiday with his parents and brother in Llandudno, north Wales. The teenager, who was autistic, had last been seen that Saturday near a boating lake and playpark at West Shore Beach. Sea, land and air searches had been carried out in the area involving the police, coastguard, and RNLI, as well as members of the public. After a four-day major search for Athrun, his body was recovered at 6.20pm near the West Shore area. An inquest today heard how his family from Pinkers Mead, Emersons Green, Bristol had been staying at an AirBnB at the time. Following a post-mortem examination Home Office pathologist Dr Jonathan Medcalf gave a provisional cause of death as drowning. The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed. Last May, Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan expressed his 'deepest condolences' to Athrun's family after his death. 'I would ask for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly sad and difficult time,' he said. 'This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, and I would once again like to thank partner agencies and members of the public for their overwhelming support and tireless assistance with the searches over the last five days.' Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, also posted a poignant tribute on Facebook to Athrun following his death. 'I am incredibly sad to learn of the tragic and very distressing outcome and I thank North Wales Police for providing such a difficult update,' she said. 'My thoughts and prayers are now with his parents, family and friends and we should allow them the privacy to grieve over their dreadful loss.'

Shoppers race to Aldi to grab the perfect buy to elevate your garden and you'll get change from a tenner

ALDI fans are racing to stores to pick up a must-have buy to elevate the garden. With summer just around the corner, we're all trying to make the most of our gardens and this bargain buy is the perfect addition. 3 3 One eager shopper shared the buy coming to stores later this week on social media. Taking to Gardening On A Budget, Yvonne Courtney, shared the buy with the group's 450k members. She said: "For those of you who are asking about solar fountains, Aldi will be having them next week!" The image showed a solar fountain to create a water feature in the garden. The budget-friendly item can be bought either curved or angular, depending on the type of pot you want to put it in. Each of the solar fountains come with seven spray patterns. The best part is that it will cost nothing to run as it runs off the sun and costs just £6.99 to buy. The garden decor comes into stores this Sunday, so if you want it for yourself, head to your local Aldi early. Also up for grabs on Sunday in the German retailer is a stunning mosaic bird bath for £17.99, as well as a pack of four solar path disc lights for £9.99. For green-fingered folk, Aldi is also selling a heap of gardening essentials. Mrs Hinch raves about £2 Home Bargains buy that 'adds charm to your garden' & a £10 product that's 'cheaper than Amazon' Gardening gloves can be picked up for £1.99 as well as pruning shears for £3.99. Those who saw Yvonne's post were eager to get the garden buys for themselves. One person wrote: "I want one or two." Another commented: 'This would look cute." 8 must-have plants to brighten up your garden Nick Hamilton owner of Barnsdale Gardens has shared his favourite plants and flowers you should consider adding to your garden, borders and pots. Tricyrtis A spectacular plant that gives a real exotic feel to any garden with its orchid-like, spotted flowers giving the impression that this plant should be tender but it is 'as tough as old boots!'. Penstemon I love this plants genus of because most will flower all summer and autumn. They'll grow in sun or semi-shade in a well drained soil and produce a non-stop display of tubular flowers in an array of colours and colour combination to suit all tastes. Luzula sylvatica 'Marginata' With the evergreen leaves edged with yellow it's great asset is that it will grow in sun or shade in any type of soil and is great as groundcover in the hardest spot to fill - dry shade. Eryngium x zabelii 'Big Blue' A stunning, nectar-rich plant that will feed the beneficial insects in your garden. Leave the flowerheads once they have turned brown because they look stunning with winter frost and snow, extending the plant's interest period. Sarcococca hookeriana 'Winter Gem' If you need winter scent then look no further than this compact, evergreen shrub. The scent is stunning and the evergreen leaves create an excellent backdrop for the summer flowers. Cornus sanguinea 'Anny's Winter Orange' A dwarf version of 'Midwinter Fire' the very colourful stems create a stunning winter display, particularly on sunny days. Rosa 'Noisette Carnee' A very well-behaved climbing rose that is perfect for training over an arch, pergola or gazebo. The small, 'noisette' flowers are blush-pink and produce the most amazing clove scent constantly from June to November. Sanguisorba hakusanensis 'Lilac Squirrel' I've never seen a squirrel with a drooping, shaggy lilac tail, but this variety will give your garden an unusual and different look throughout summer. It does need a moisture retentive soil but will grow in sun or semi-shade. "Keep your eyes peeled," penned a third to a friend. Meanwhile a fourth said: "I need a couple, mine broke." "They have the pot in stores now,' claimed a fifth.

You're NOT a typical working mum, Meghan – you've got a nanny & it's so grating when you whine, expert slams

MEGHAN Markle has been slammed by a royal expert for whining about being a typical working mum despite having a nanny. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, admitted in April she had an "amazing" nanny who had helped her look after Prince Archie, aged six, and Princess Lilibet, aged three, for the past five years. 3 3 3 However, an expert has slammed the mum-of-two for "going on and on" about her life as a working mum, despite her "great privilege" giving her access to helpful resources that much of the rest of the world "cannot afford". Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive Show, Royal Correspondent Bronte Coy said she was "frustrated" by Meghan for "overusing" the examples of her motherly responsibilities. The expert explained: "I have a son, but when I hear people from positions of great privilege - where they can afford nannies and a lot of help - go on and on and on about the working mum thing, it's not the same. "Yes, it's time away from your kid - I definitely understand that aspect - but it's not the same as the working mum idea that a lot of the rest of the world has to deal with. "And so she really leaned into that a lot, and I think, well, is this a struggle that you have a lot?" Bronte added: "You do have help. And also you are at home a lot." "I find that a little bit grating." Meghan had admitted in an appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show in April that her nanny would step in to help take her children to school. Her admission came just weeks after the Duchess of Sussex said she felt the " juggling" of working and being a mum was " incredibly overwhelming", adding: "Oh my gosh, I just need a break." Adding to Bronte's points, broadcaster and writer Esther Krakue said Meghan was trying "to be this thing that she's clearly not", in relation to her "influencer" status. There's nothing much left of 'erratic' Harry in terms of a man, he's just watching Meghan crack on Esther explained: "I don't even want to feel like we're beating down on everything she does - I genuinely wish her all the success. "But I feel sad that she feels the need to be this thing that she's clearly not. She's not a chemist. She's not a physicist." "But that's fine - sometimes it's OK to just be pretty and to have good fortune in life and to ride that wave." In response, Bronte added that she felt Meghan would be best suited to returning to her lifestyle space, which "she clearly loves." The expert added: "I think that she, I was always hopeful when she leaned into the lifestyle space, clearly she loves that. "I thought maybe we're going to see a more relaxed, casual, real Meghan - I really had hoped that would work - I thought that was going to be a good idea for her. "I have been disappointed by the output, however. "I think it's just not quite landed for a lot of people, particularly now the show is wrapped up." There's nothing left of the man that was Harry, he's erratic and just watching Meghan crack on, expert says Prince Harry is nothing but a shell of his former self as he watches his wife Meghan Markle succeed in her life, an expert has claimed. The Duke of Sussex also appears to be "erratic" in his behaviour, given his latest "random" visit to China, which clashed with King Charles and Queen Camilla's visit to Canada, the expert added. All of this comes while his wife Meghan has engaged in a major re-brand this year, launching her new podcast and finding success with her business As Ever. Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive Show, broadcaster and writer Esther Krakue said Harry's visit to China for his sustainable travel charity Travalyst was done as he "has nothing left". She said: "If you think about it critically, what else does he [Harry] have left? "I mean, he's resigned from Sentebale, while it's being investigated. "He's no longer a working royal, [and while] he has his other charity work with the Invictus Games, his involvement is not as in-depth because it's every few years. "This [Travalyst] is really all he has left." Esther added that Meghan's continued success meant Harry was living in her shadow, leaving him with nothing left of his former self. She continued: "It kind of feels like [this] because there's nothing left. "He's just watching Meghan go from experiment to experiment, you know, taking his kids to school and dropping them off - but really, there isn't much there in terms of the man. "What is the man about?" This comes as the Duchess of Sussex's Netflix cooking show was slammed by an expert for not "being entertaining or informative". The Netflix series saw Meghan making guest baskets, beeswax candles, and a single skillet spaghetti, filmed at a farmhouse near her £12million Montecito mansion. Esther shared: 'There's nothing there. 'She's very, like - I'm not saying this to be horrible - she is not an entertainer or an entertaining person. 'There's not much personality there. 'I never learn anything from her. I love lifestyle shows. I watch them every day. I don't learn anything. I didn't learn anything from hers. And she's just not entertaining. 'She's not a fun person to be around. 'You don't think this is the person I want to go to the pub with to have a pint with. 'It's very clear that she is not box office in terms of entertainment quality.'
