Texas A&M's 2026 cycle rises in the recruiting ranks after latest commitment
It's no surprise that Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is competing for the No. 1 spot in the rankings by the end of the year, as coach Mike Elko and his staff have hosted 33 elite 2026 prospects over the past two weekends, including 15 this weekend. Led by the return of five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, the Aggies gained their 15th commitment on Saturday night after landing three-star QB/ATH Kaeden Johnson.
Johnson, who will likely play tight end for the Aggies due to his size, speed, and knowledge of route concepts, is one of the rising prospects in the cycle, so locking him down early was one of Elko's priority tasks this month. With Johnson's commitment, Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting cycle has risen to No. 6 in 247Sports recruiting rankings, ten spots ahead of the Texas Longhorns (No. 16).
With several commitments on the horizon, Lamar Brown is set to announce his choice on July 10, and after his revealing post on X after his official visit to College Station, stating, "Think this one close the book..." the Aggies are in an excellent position to land the standout lineman, which would be one of the biggest recruiting wins in the last couple of offseasons.

One of those recruits is 5-star offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, the No. 8 player in the 2026 class. Oregon's coaching still will have a chance to get the final word in, and set the plan for the 5-star OT in stone ahead of his schedule commitment on August 5. Lane Johnson feels he's "getting close" to his peak as a player
The offensive line has been a big part of the Eagles' success in recent years and they have four starters back from last season as they try to defend their Super Bowl title. Right tackle Lane Johnson is the most experienced member of that group and he's set to be the oldest starting tackle in the league at 35. Some players are slowing down at that age, but Johnson feels like he's moving in the other direction. Advertisement Johnson dealt with ankle injuries for several years and said last week that he feels better now than he did when he was 29 or 30. That's left him feeling like he still has new heights to reach as a player. "I feel like I'm getting close to maybe my peak," Johnson said, via Reuben Frank of "As weird as it is to say, but that's truly how I feel. Maybe they need to do a Combine for guys 10 years [in the league], see how we do compared to 10 years ago.' The Eagles would gladly sign up for more of the same from Johnson in 2025. If they get an even better player, the offense is going to be a difficult one to stop come the start of the regular season.
