Coraopolis community holds vigil for man killed in hit-and-run
They came together at the Citgo gas station where the hit-and-run took place.
Those in attendance said they remember Montalvo as someone who made his community a better place.
"He's done so much for us, even if you were a stranger, helped with yardwork, planting flowers, even businesses, he was doing yardwork, everything," said Julie Populo. "It's just honestly the right thing to do because he's done a lot for us."
Police said Montalvo was crossing Fourth Avenue at Main Street when he was hit by an SUV last Sunday night.
The driver took off after allegedly hitting Montalvo last Sunday night, but police found the driver.
Coraopolis police tell KDKA-TV that they were able to locate the driver at his home in Ambridge through traffic light cameras and license plate readers on Route 65.
KDKA-TV learned the driver is an undocumented immigrant and has been detained by ICE.
Police have not publicly released the suspect's name.
Along with Saturday night's vigil, since Montalvo's death, a memorial has been erected and continues to grow near the scene, thanks to the love and support from the community.
"This whole town, it's quiet now," Ben Squair of Coraopolis said. "This town, it feels sort of empty because we lost something."
"I appreciate everybody that's coming down and putting stuff out here for him because he was a very special person in this town," Laura Henry of Coraopolis said.
Montalvo was known as Tony to many in Coraopolis. People knew the 61-year-old man as a hard worker and a helper.

A North Carolina beach town was rocked Tuesday morning when a hit-and-run driver crashed into a veterinary office gas line, triggering a fiery explosion that sent at least three firefighters to the hospital. Wilmington Police Department officials said a driver veered off the road and ruptured a gas line near Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center at about 11:30 a.m. The building exploded about 20 minutes later as firefighters searched inside, scattering debris across the busy road and sending a large plume of black smoke into the sky. A mayday was called, and at least three firefighters were taken to the hospital, according to police. Two firefighters are suffering injuries that are not life-threatening, and a third has severe burn injuries to their hands. Officials said the driver was turning into a car dealership when they struck the gas lines feeding to the building. The unidentified driver, who appeared to be impaired, fled the scene and was later arrested, according to police. It is unclear if the suspect has been charged. North Carolina Highway Patrol and other federal partners are assisting with the investigation, according to police. Driver charged in fatal hit-and-run crash in Morton Grove, Illinois
A man has been indicted on felony charges in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 74-year-old man in June in Morton Grove, Illinois in June. William Barkho, of Niles, has been charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death. Police and prosecutors said, around 7:30 a.m. on June 26, Barkho was driving a gold or tan Chevrolet Equinox on Beckwith Road near Neenah Avenue in Morton Grove, when he hit 74-year-old Jonathan Friedman, who was walking on Beckwith Road. Friedman was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Barkho fled the scene, and parked his car a few blocks away on Normandy Avenue, and walked to a nearby Walgreens, where he called a fmaily member to pick him up and take him to his father's house, according to Cook County prosecutors. A Ring doorbell camera recorded Barkho's car speeding away from the scene of the crash, and the emblem from Barkho's Chevy was left behind at the scene. Police later found his abandoned car, with the emblem missing, and tracked Barkho down to his father's house. On July 30, a Cook County grand jury indicted Barkho on one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death. At his first court appearance on Aug. 13, a judge allowed him to remain free while he awaits trial, but ordered that he cannot drive while his case is pending. Barkho is due back in court on Sept. 22.

Family of man killed in I-75 hit-and-run call for accountability
The family of a semi-truck driver killed in a hit and run crash on Interstate 75 is calling for accountability. Terrell Lowdermilk's family learned Monday that the man investigators accuse of being responsible, Christopher Bradshaw, was a Milton Police Department Lieutenant. The City of Milton fired Bradshaw Monday. 'Our family is deeply saddened and grieving the loss of Terrell, whose life was stolen in such a senseless act—one committed by the very institution meant to protect him,' said Cindy Hayes. Hayes is Lowdermilk's mother. The crash that killed him happened Wednesday around 2:30 am. According to Marietta Police Department, Lowdermilk and another semi driver stopped on the side of Interstate 75 Northbound to exchange information after a fender bender. That's when police said a pickup truck hit Lowdermilk. The driver never stopped. That's when the officer reached out to detectives through his attorney and agreed to turn himself into the jail. 'That's very disturbing, you know? They take an oath to protect and serve,' said Lowdermilk's father, Terence Lowdermilk. 'He violated his oath.' Channel 2 obtained Bradshaw's police training records. He started his law enforcement career as a Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy in 2008. He took a job as a Milton Police officer in 2011. By 2022, he'd climbed the ranks to Lieutenant. 'What kind of example does that make to the public?' said Terence Lowdermilk. Milton Police Department sent Channel 2 a statement in response to the arrest. It said Bradshaw was off duty when the crash happened. 'When you become a police officer, you take an oath to protect and serve your community. Officers are held to a higher standard, whether on or off duty, and the public entrusts them with their lives,' said Hayes. Milton Police said when leadership learned of Bradshaw's arrest, he was immediately put on administrative leave. Then, the City of Milton terminated him. 'We are calling for accountability, transparency, and answers from law enforcement,' said Hayes. 'Justice for Terrell is not only about our family's pain, but also about restoring the trust and integrity that every community deserves.' Milton Police Lt. Andrew Noblett wrote, 'Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time. While we cannot provide further comment due to the ongoing investigation being led by the Marietta Police Department, we remain committed to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the trust of our community.' Lowdermilk's family created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
