Deepak Tijori reveals he envied Irrfan Khan: ‘They never even looked at me because I was seen as too commercial'

Actor-director
Deepak Tijori
, who rose to fame with films like Aashiqui and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, is gearing up for the release of his latest short film Echoes of Us. While promoting the project, Tijori recently reflected on the kind of cinema he always aspired to be part of, but didn't get the chance to.
In a rare moment of vulnerability, Tijori revealed that the one actor whose career he truly envied was the late
Irrfan Khan
. 'There was always one actor I envied — that was Irrfan Khan,' he shared with Bollywood Bubble, adding, 'The kind of cinema he did, that was the kind I wanted to do. But I never got the opportunity because they always thought I was too commercial a property to be part of that cinema.'
'I was always an actor, never a star breed'
Despite being recognised for his roles in some of the most iconic films of the '90s, Tijori confessed that he was often boxed into a commercial mould, making it difficult for him to explore more grounded, artistic cinema.
'I was always an actor. I was never a star breed,' he said.
He admitted that he never cared much for song-and-dance routines either, unlike some of his peers. 'That's why if you see me in cinema, I don't have songs to play like Shah Rukh Khan. You guys do all those boss-level songs. I used to say, 'Okay, I'll do my work,' but I never had songs,' he recalled with a laugh. 'I used to tell them — don't make me sing, yaar, I find it annoying.'
Deepak Tijori alleges co-producer Mohan Nadar cheated him of Rs 2.6 crore, files FIR
'Ittar is Irrfan cinema. And I want to do that now'
Tijori feels he is finally stepping into the kind of cinema he's always longed for. Mentioning his recent work Ittar and another upcoming project with filmmaker
Veena
, he noted that these films reflect the subtle, introspective storytelling that defined Irrfan's legacy. 'Ittar is Irrfan cinema. What I'm doing again with Veena — that is Irrfan cinema,' he asserted.
Deepak
also revealed that Echoes of Us came into being after he met Joe, a fellow director who had worked on previous projects. The two bonded over their shared vision and decided to collaborate. 'I wrote it because I met Joe, and Joe was also a director. We became friends and thought — chalo, let's do something,' he said.

When Kareena Kapoor Made A "Big Mistake" By Letting Go Of Priyanka Chopra's Aitraaz Character, Reveals Producer

New Delhi: Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra's rumoured cat-fight dominated the headlines back in the day. The root of this fight might be traced back to the shooting of the Abbas-Mustan film Aitraaz (2003), featuring Akshay Kumar in the lead. In a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, director-producer Suneel Darshan revealed Kareena could have taken the role of Priyanka in the film. What's Happening Suneel Darshan shared that Kareena did a "big mistake" by letting go of a character, which eventually shaped Priyanka's career. "There are times when actors miscalculate. At that time, a negative role was still viewed as something like a vamp. And the fact that Priyanka was cast alongside Amrish Puri as his wife, so it felt more like a Shashikala-type role. You know, like the ones Shashikala or Bindu used to play in older films. But with time, narratives change, and so do perspectives. And I thought to myself, my God, Bebo (Kareena) made such a big mistake," said Suneel Darshan. The producer-director believed that Kareena could have taken Priyanka's part as she was offered the film first. "But Bebo is Bebo. She always wanted to glide through everything easily. She lost out on that role because she chose not to do it. She picked the heroine's part opposite the hero. She could have taken Priyanka's role too, but she didn't," said Suneel Darshan. Praising Priyanka Chopra's courage to take up a grey character, Darshan said, "Priyanka was at a stage where she was on the rise. She was the go-getter. Whatever she wanted, she went after and got it. And that role justified something that wasn't considered normal, it made you believe in it." Kareena-Priyanka's Changing Dynamics Kareena and Priyanka Chopra kept the rumoured catfight alive by taking subtle and not-so-subtle digs at each other over the years. On various seasons of Koffee with Karan, both stars made sharp comments about each other. Interestingly, the two actresses shared a couch on Koffee with Karan in 2019 during its sixth season, where they showed a fresh new bond, laughing at their old comments. In a 2023 interview with Mid-Day, When asked directly if there was ever tension with Priyanka, Kareena responded, "Not at all! Rubbish. I was like, 'What is going on?'" In A Nutshell

Metro In Dino Lifetime Worldwide Box Office: Anurag Basu's musical keeps its head above water with a respectable Rs 79 crore global finish

Metro... In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Ali Fazal, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Nina Gupta, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma and others, has finally ended its run at the box office. The movie opened to a low Rs 3.25 crore net in India on day 1, with global gross collections under Rs 5 crore. With this kind of an opening, it looked like the movie would seal itself a very poor fate at the box office, entailing losses to its producers. Dino Ends Its Global Run Grossing Rs 78.50 Crore Worldwide However, the Anurag Basu directorial trended very well following the low start, to reach to safe shores. With Rs 52 crore India net (Rs 62.50 crore India gross) and USD 1.85 million overseas gross (Rs 16 crore overseas gross), Dino has ended its global run grossing Rs 78.50 crore. The producer share for the movie after commission is slightly over Rs 30 crore and that's good enough for the movie to breakeven. Dino Ends Up As A Profitable Venture For T-Series Pinkvilla had earlier decoded the economics of Dino. The same can be referred from HERE. Based on this, the movie needed a Rs 30 crore global share and the movie has managed it after toiling hard. The biggest takeaway is the music of the movie picking up, ensuring T-Series a lot more than the stipulated Rs 15 crore. Overall, while the musical is not a loss making affair, it isn't highly profitable either. Had the budget of the movie been managed well, T-Series would be sitting at a much greater profit, automatically greenlighting the third installment of the movie. Now the possibility of a threquel rests in this movie's ability to resonate with the audiences digitally. It is likely that the audiences on Netflix will connect with the movie. Anurag Basu Moves Onto His Next With Kartik Aaryan And Sreeleela Anurag Basu now gears up for his next with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela. This movie is easily expected to outgross Dino and it needs to be seen by what margin. It is said to be the third installment of Aashiqui. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

War 2 ‘Aavan Jaavan' making: Hrithik Roshan tells Kiara Advani, ‘khaana khao aur naacho'; sings ‘Dheere Dheere' while rehearsing in Italy

A week after releasing the first song, 'Aavan Jaavan', from Ayan Mukerji's upcoming spy thriller War 2, Yash Raj Films has now dropped the making of the film on its official YouTube channel. The video starts with the lead actors, Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani, practising the popular hook step in a rehearsal hall of HRX, Hrithik's athleisure brand. The action then switches to the shoot in Italy. 'We needed a backdrop to film this love song. It should be like this travel energy song, where two people are just in love and seeing the world together. So I was very happy when we finally selected Italy as the location of the song,' says Ayan, talking to the camera. A montage of the picturesque frames from Tuscany follows, with choreographer Bosco Martis heaping praise on the beauty of the landscape. Hrithik is seen giving Kiara a pep talk right before the shot in which they cycle along the grasslands of Tuscany. While riding the bicycle, he even sings the popular romantic song 'Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana' from Mahesh Bhatt's 1990 blockbuster musical romance Aashiqui. Interestingly, Hrithik featured in the 2018 rehash of that song, sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh. Kiara is seen in awe of the Tuscany weather as she describes the experience of shooting her green swimwear sequence. 'We've had just the right mix of sunshine and that lovely wind coming in. I just feel like staying back, and relaxing, chilling, and swimming in these thermal pools. It's all dreamy and beautiful,' she says. After wrapping the Tuscany schedule, the crew moves to Rome. 'When I went into Rome, I felt we've to shoot against some of the iconic spots like the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain. These were very difficult locations to film in and to get the permission for, but the stars really aligned. We shot at all of these places. We really feel proud of it,' says Ayan. While shooting against the Colosseum, Hrithik is seen biting into a pizza as he grooves with Kiara. 'Khana khao, naacho' (have food and dance),' he says in a candid behind-the-scenes moment. At the end of the video, Ayan calls it a schedule wrap. The cast and crew then celebrate by hugging each other and popping open a champagne bottle. The lyrics for the song are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The song is filled with romance between the actors as they travel to different locations. Kiara stole the show with her stunning looks, while Hrithik, as usual, ruled the dance floor with his effortless hook step of the song 'Aavan Jaavan.' The makers released the song on Kiara's birthday on July 31. War 2, which also stars Jr NTR as the chief antagonist, is slated to release in theatres on August 14.
