KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his gratitude to all Malaysians for their continued support and patience as the government works to rebuild the country's finances and deliver on reform promises.
In the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Daily Briefing today, senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah reiterated the Prime Minister's apology, delivered yesterday, for the delay in fulfilling some of his earlier promises made before taking office.
'Since day one of leading the country at the end of 2022, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has never stopped working to improve the nation's financial standing for the wellbeing of the people.
'Now that the country's finances are gradually recovering, the government can offer targeted assistance to ease the people's burden amid global economic uncertainty,' said Tunku Nashrul.
He also pointed to revelations by investigative journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright that Malaysia had lost USD18 billion in the 1MDB scandal, which is a stark reminder of the fiscal damage inherited by the MADANI Government from past administrations.
Despite relentless attacks and personal insults by certain parties, including Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and other opposition leaders, Tunku Nashrul said Anwar remains focused and undeterred.
'While some use social media daily to ridicule the MADANI Government's efforts, the Prime Minister has neither flinched nor taken these insults personally,' he said.
Tunku Nashrul highlighted the government's recent measures to ease cost-of-living pressures, including the reduction of RON95 petrol prices from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre, and a one-off RM100 cash assistance to all Malaysian adults.
'This also marks the first time in our history that all citizens, regardless of social status, receive a direct benefit from the government in conjunction with National Day celebrations,' he noted.

'It's our best': Sarawak brings signature products to penetrate the Singapore market at Malaysia Fest 2025

SINGAPORE (Bernama): Mi kolok, layer cakes, chocolates, white pepper, and black pepper were among the signature products from the Land of the Hornbills available at the Sarawak Pavilion at the Malaysia Fest 2025 expo currently taking place in Singapore until Sunday (Aug 3). Sarawak Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Director Norsalawaty Abdul Kadir said these products have their own uniqueness, making them suitable not only for selling directly to visitors but also have export potential. "For example, the Borco branded chocolate from D Mummy's Recipe sold here are made of Bornean cocoa and comes in dabai (Borneo olive), empelajo, and sour brinjal flavours. These are fruit and vegetables grown in Sarawak. "Other markets might have chocolates that contain hazelnut or almond, but Sarawak has empelajo which has a richer taste than almond,' she told Bernama. Norsalawaty said five entrepreneurs from the state have been selected to participate in the Sarawak Pavilion at the expo. She said this first-ever participation by the Sarawak state government through the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) has been well-received, and hoped that more aspiring entrepreneurs would take part in the expo next year. "We have also matched Sarawakian entrepreneurs and business people with exporters in Singapore. "All the entrepreneurs that we brought here are export ready, including in terms of production capacity, in addition to having the required certification such as halal certification,' she said. Norsalawaty said for the first time at this Malaysia Fest, FAMA had brought in 400 kilograms of citron from Sarawak to allow visitors to sample and enjoy the agricultural produce as part of the "Island of Tropical Fruits' segment. "For the time being, citron is not yet widely grown in Sarawak. If there is demand here, we hope it can motivate our farmers,' she said. FAMA had brought in about 10 tonnes of tropical and seasonal fruit to the expo this time. Jutaan Purnama Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Saiful Hammidi Hamid, said the company's products such as Purnama Taste branded mi kolok, mi kampua and mi pok are looking for opportunities to be exported to Singapore and the wider market. He believed Sarawakian products have their own market as well as able to penetrate the wider international market. "Our products are now marketed not just in Malaysia but also in Paris this year following our participation at the expo there. They have been very well received. We started small through cargo export and recently we started using containers,' he said. Malaysia Fest 2025 themed "Unlock The Treasures of Malaysia' is taking place from July 31 to August 3 at Hall 5A and 5B, Singapore Expo from 10 am to 10 pm. Organised by MegaXpress International with the cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through FAMA, the programme offers 321 booths and is participated in by 220 Malaysian entrepreneurial companies. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today held a trilateral meeting with his counterparts from Cambodia and Thailand in preparation for the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between the two neighbouring countries on Aug 7. In a Facebook post, Mohamed Khaled said the virtual meeting was attended by Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Tea Seiha, as well as Thailand's Acting Defence Minister General Natthaphon Narkphanit. "This meeting marks an important step in preparing for the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) session scheduled to take place on Aug 7 in Kuala Lumpur. "With the spirit of Asean, Malaysia is fully committed to supporting a peaceful, Asean-led resolution process in line with our shared regional values," he said. The meeting was also joined by armed forces chief General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar and Defence Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) Mohd Yani Daud. Mohamed Khaled said the GBC meeting will be attended by observers from Malaysia, the United States and China. Prior to the GBC session, representatives from Cambodia and Thailand will hold preliminary meetings from Aug 4 to 6. "These discussions reflect the parties' commitment to peaceful negotiations and constructive dialogue. "We hope this contributes to our shared responsibility to preserve peace and stability in the Asean region, and Malaysia stands ready to ensure smooth proceedings while supporting every step of this peace process in a neutral capacity," he added. Previously, the Malaysian armed forces confirmed it would facilitate the GBC meeting between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 4 to 7. According to a statement from its Defence Strategic Communication and Intelligence Division, the GBC aims to resolve border disputes between the two nations as part of a ceasefire agreement signed in Malaysia on July 28. The meeting was initially scheduled to be held in Phnom Penh on Aug 4, but on July 31, Thailand proposed relocating it to Malaysia as a neutral venue and extending the discussion period beyond the originally planned single day. – Bernama
