Riyadh Air launches a flight route - and its to London
Riyadh Air is gearing up for a spectacular start. There has been a noticeable increase in travel between the Middle East and the United Kingdom. And, with the surge in demand comes the need for more seats in the sky. That's where Saudi Arabia's upcoming airline, Riyadh Air, steps in with plans for flights between Riyadh and London. The official announcement is still under wraps. Flights between Riyadh and London have been reported to launch on 26 October, 2025. According to Airport Coordination Limited, which manages the highly sought-after slots at London Heathrow, Riyadh Air has secured take-off and landing rights. This is a significant milestone for the Saudi carrier. The airline intends to operate daily flights between Riyadh and London Heathrow using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with 288 seats. There is also speculation that an ex-Oman Air Dreamliner may be used temporarily. Although, the airline is reportedly keen to debut its own purple-branded aircraft. Riyadh–Heathrow is clearly a strategic commercial choice. Riyadh Air is positioning itself as the world's first digital-native airline. The airline promises a sleek and intelligent passenger experience from the moment you step on board. The designers have thoughtfully incorporated both luxury and traditional Saudi elements into each cabin. Expect indigo, sky blue, and peach tones inspired by Riyadh's skyline and desert landscape. Oman: S&P assigns OQ investment-grade rating
Muscat – S&P Global Ratings has assigned OQ, Oman's international integrated energy group, an investment-grade rating of 'BBB-' on the global scale issuer credit rating, and a 'gcAA-' rating on the GCC regional scale, both with a stable outlook. In its rating action statement, S&P stated that OQ benefits from vertical integration across the hydrocarbon value chain, upstream access to new blocks in Oman, leading positions in domestic refining and gas transmission, and strong backing from its sole shareholder, the Government of Oman. S&P noted that the stable outlook reflects its expectation that OQ's integrated business model and prudent balance sheet management through 2025–2026 will enable the company to withstand any potential impact on its credit metrics, even in a weaker market environment. 'OQ's business risk profile is balanced by the concentration of its assets in Oman, its medium-sized scale of operations, and its exposure to the volatility of the hydrocarbon industry,' the agency said. S&P acknowledged that over the past three years, OQ has significantly reduced its debt by utilising operating cash flow and proceeds from the divestment of non-core assets and stakes in subsidiaries. The agency added, 'We expect OQ's credit metrics to remain strong over the next two years, despite unfavourable oil prices and refining margins, with funds from operations (FFO) to debt of 50%–53% in 2025 and 54%–57% in 2026.' In a social media post, OQ Group stated that the investment-grade rating from S&P reflects confidence in the group's integrated business model, prudent financial management, and strategic importance to Oman's energy sector. 'S&P's assessment highlights OQ's strong liquidity position, disciplined capital structure, and key role in supporting Oman's economic diversification and energy transition under Vision 2040. This first-time public rating from S&P affirms OQ's position as a national energy leader committed to long-term resilience and value creation,' OQ said.

Oman: SalamAir expands fleet with new Airbus A321neo aircraft
Muscat – SalamAir, the Sultanate of Oman's budget carrier, has announced the arrival of its newest Airbus A321neo aircraft, named 'Mutrah' after a public vote by guests and followers on Instagram. The arrival of this aircraft brings SalamAir's fleet to 14 aircraft, underscoring its ongoing commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, improving customer experience, and reducing the environmental impact of its operations. The aircraft features advanced, highly efficient CFM LEAP-1A engines, which contribute to a 20% reduction in fuel consumption per seat and significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions. The aircraft also complies with global environmental standards, achieving a 50% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and a noise reduction of more than 15 decibels compared to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard. The aircraft features 212 seats with a modern interior design, including USB charging ports in every seat, allowing our valued customers to enjoy a comfortable and smooth travel experience. The aircraft's operational range reaches 4,000 nautical miles, giving Salam Air greater flexibility in operating medium- and long-haul flights. 'The addition of the new A321neo to our fleet is an important step in enhancing our operational capacity in preparation for the peak season,' said Adrian Hamilton Mans, CEO of SalamAir . 'This aircraft gives us greater operational flexibility, enhances our ability to meet flight schedules, and improves our operational KPI.' He added, 'With the addition of this aircraft and another expected later this month, our average fleet age will be reduced from 5.6 years to approximately 4.8 years, making us one of the youngest airlines in the region. This is in line with our strategy of focusing on enhancing operational efficiency and reliability, while delivering added value to our guests.' The addition of the A321neo aircraft further strengthens SalamAir's comprehensive strategy, which focuses on fleet modernization, network expansion, and operational efficiency. With a newer, more efficient fleet, the airline is fully prepared to explore new markets, increase flight frequencies to high-demand destinations, and further contribute to the growth of the aviation and tourism sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.
