Travis Kelce admits returning to Chiefs, NFL for 2025 season 'wasn't a very tough decision'
Travis Kelce entered this offseason surrounded by uncertainty. The 35-year-old faced questions about whether the Kansas City Chiefs loss to the Philadelphia Eagles would be the final time he laced up his NFL cleats. Kelce ultimately decided to continue playing the game he loves. "I'm coming back for sure. Gonna try to get into the best shape I've been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop," Kelce wrote in a text message to Pat McAfee that the ESPN host read during his show. "Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and with how I got the guys ready for battle. I can't go out like that!!!!" This week, Kelce indicated that while he perhaps did briefly contemplate stepping away, he never actually strongly considered retiring. "I love football. I don't think I really thought about it that much," Kelce told the assembled media on Wednesday at the Chiefs minicamp. "... I love coming in to work every single day. It wasn't a very tough one for me. I know I'm getting older, but at the same time, I still feel like I've got a lot I can prove in this league. With that being said, it really wasn't that hard of a decision for me." Kelce finished the Super Bowl loss with four receptions for 39 yards. The tight end expressed regret over his forgettable showing in the game, telling reporters he "felt like I failed my guys." But added, he "really didn't feel like it was my last game." The Chiefs have played in the last three Super Bowls, winning two. Kelce reaffirmed his desire to hoist the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy once again at the end of the upcoming season. Anything less than another championship would be a failure in Kelce's eyes. "That's the only way I determine if it's a successful (season) or not," he said. "It's just how I'm wired now." Kelce fell short of the 1,000-yard receiving mark last season. He ended the regular season with 823 yards. Kelce said he will worry about his playing future after the 2025 season. In the meantime, he is staying focused on trying to help the Chiefs be the last team standing next February. "I got one year on this contract, I know that, and we'll try and figure out something for next year," Kelce said. "The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can't see myself ever playing anywhere else. We'll deal with that down the road when the time is right, but right now I'm focused on winning a championship this year." Lamar Jackson Gets His Wish, Baltimore Ravens Land Star Corner
Lamar Jackson Gets His Wish, Baltimore Ravens Land Star Corner originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens are gearing up for a Super Bowl run. The team has been on the cusp of reaching the big game over the last few seasons, most notably during the 2023-2024 season where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. Advertisement According to Ari Meirov, the Ravens have signed former All-Pro Jaire Alexander. It's a one-year, $4 million deal, with Alexander having the opportunity to earn up to $2 million in incentives, totaling a $6 million maximum value. Alexander, released by the Green Bay Packers after missing much of the last two seasons due to knee and shoulder injuries, reunites with former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson. Meirov also reports that Jackson was a big advocate for this move, asking general manager Eric DeCosta yesterday to sign Alexander. During a media session earlier this week, Jackson confirmed his interest publicly. Advertisement "Go get him, Eric, I love all our corners, don't get me wrong. But go get him, Eric,' Jackson said. "Yeah, I hit him up. I hit him up. But you never know with Jaire. That's my boy, man." Bringing Alexander to an already high-powered defense will surely be special. He joins an elite secondary, with the likes of Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, Chidobe Awuzie, Kyle Hamilton, and Malaki Starks. The former Green Bay Packer is versatile enough to play almost anywhere, giving Zach Orr a chance to be creative with his schemes. He creates matchup problems with his ability to play both outside and in the slot, which enhances Humphrey's flexibility and Wiggins' speed. Advertisement Alexander's physical play style matches what the Ravens represent historically. He blends elite man-coverage skills with explosive athleticism, allowing him to cover some of the NFL's best wide receivers. His ball-hawking ability stands out, evidenced by his 12 career interceptions as a professional. Last season, the Ravens defense ranked number one against the run, allowing just 3.6 yards per attempt. On the other hand, they were second-worst against the pass, giving up the second-most total yards in the NFL. Landing Alexander should help that area of the defense exponentially, and in an era defined by elite quarterback play, the Ravens have the potential to slow some of the NFL's best down. Giants expect star wideout Nabers (toe) to be ready for training camp
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that he isn't concerned about star wide receiver Malik Nabers' availability for training camp. Daboll said the team is aware of Nabers' ailing toe, an injury that he has dealt with dating back to his college days at LSU. But, the coach said Nabers is 'doing good' despite the second-year player sitting out both organized team activities and minicamp due to the injury. 'Every person's at a different part in -- we'll call it rehab, if you will -- rehab,' Daboll said. 'We just did what we thought was best for Malik to try to get him as healthy as we can.' Nabers, 21, set an NFL rookie-record for wide receivers with 109 catches last season, which also was a franchise mark with the Giants. He totaled 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games (13 games) en route to being named to the Pro Bowl. The Giants selected Nabers with the sixth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
