I won't go to jail by denotifying land for Peripheral Ring Road-2 project in Bengaluru: DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru: Ruling out denotification of land notified for Peripheral Ring Road-2 (PRR-2) project, the govt Thursday said the 52-km stretch connecting Hosur Road with Mysuru Road will be implemented. The govt issued a primary notification for 2,716 acres of land in 2005-06, of which a final notification was issued for executing the Major Arterial Road (MAR) between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road, which forms part of PRR-2 alignment. The MAR stretch of over 10.7km is in advanced stages of completion. Replying to a question raised by BJP MLC HS Gopinath in the legislative council, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said there is no question of denotifying the land and the project will be implemented. He asked whether the govt would demolish over 10,000 houses to build the road. The BDA recently announced the formation of six layouts along the alignment of PRR-2. Shivakumar said, "Though the primary notification was issued in 2005-06, successive govts did not issue a final notification for acquisition of land nor sanctioned the plan. I am not ready to denotify the land and go to jail. This is also the govt's stand." Shivakumar said wherever residential structures have come up along the alignment, flyovers will be built to avoid land acquisition. Comunidades to ask guv to deny nod to bill regularising structures

Panaji: Comunidades across Goa came together on Thursday to launch a concerted campaign to oppose the new bill brought in to regularise unauthorised structures on comunidade lands in the state. The comunidades decided to meet the Goa governor to request that he deny his assent to the bill. 'The bill allows govt to legalise structures on comunidade lands without the approval of the comunidades concerned. All comunidades will hold a meeting before Aug 24 and pass a resolution opposing this new bill,' said Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, leading the group. He said, 'A programme called Monsoon Fellowship will also be held to raise awareness about the rights of comunidades.' Members of comunidades from across Goa convened a meeting in Panaji on Thursday to discuss their next course of action against the bill. Groups of comunidades have already been staging protests across the state against the bill over the past few weeks. The comunidade members said that the new legislation is an attempt to allow illegal occupation through unauthorised structures on the ancestral community lands in their villages. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Lara Green Is Retiring - Her Final Jewelry Pieces Are 80% Off The Heritage Journal Read More Undo The new legislation, the comunidades said, undermines the authority of comunidades over their lands and that will open the doors for further encroachments on the lands. 'It is detrimental to the integrity of comunidade land ownership and violates our traditional rights,' Viegas said. If govt regularises constructions on such lands, the name of the person behind the smaller illegal construction will be entered on Forms 1 & 14. So, in the future, the comunidade will be at the mercy of such an encroacher when carrying out any work related to that parcel of land, the protesting group said. An outsider and non-Gaonkar can't be made a beneficiary of land that is essentially community property, the group said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Minister, too, worried over delayed college admission

Kolkata: State education minister Bratya Basu has expressed concern over the impasse related to the undergraduate admission due to legal ambiguity. On Thursday, Basu said: "We are also concerned over the publication of the Joint Entrance results. There is overactivity aimed at halting the admission process, despite the Supreme Court directive. " A huge number of students who want to enrol in undergraduate courses and engineering colleges are still uncertain about the start of the admission process. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Board was preparing to publish the results, but the high court ordered a stay on it. The entire matter is pending before the court.
