It became a favourite of the princess after it was named in her honour.
Shortly before her death in 1997 she had sent a touching letter to the café's owner which said: 'I wanted to write personally, to thank you so very much for the beautiful flowers you sent for my birthday.'
Abdul-Basit Daoud, the owner, fondly recalled how Diana first visited the café days after it opened.

He said: "She started coming more often, bringing the kids here sometimes for breakfast.
"The kids used to take breakfast, like English breakfast.
"Herself, she used to have cappuccino, cake, some croissants, something like this but she sometimes had English breakfast too."
Dozens of photographs of the princess adorn the walls, including one she herself had presented as a gift, as the cafe is now a popular tourist destination.

But the Home Office has now applied for the establishment's license to be revoked.
During four inspections between 2019 and 2024, seven illegal workers from Albania and Egypt were found.
The basement was also being unlawfully used to smoke shisha.
One migrant had been employed there for more than two years, according to an immigration enforcement report.

Other workers said they received food instead of pay for their work.
This "raised concerns about labour exploitation in the premises".

One chef was found to have been "paid in food" and had arrived in the UK on a business visa that expired in 2015.
Owner Daoud oversaw recruitment, checking the right-to-work and immigration status of new staff members.

He told officers that staff were paid in cash and some received free food in return for working at the cafe.
The inspectors report stated: 'Café Diana has been found employing illegal workers.
"This business has clearly failed to meet the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety objectives.'
As a result, the café was slapped with a £135,000 fine in April for illegally employing three migrants.

Customers were also found to be smoking shisha in the basement during an enforcement visit in May with police and trading officers.
They seized 45 unlabelled tubs of shisha tobacco.
Lawyers for the café's owners said in a letter to the council: 'Immediately upon becoming aware of the reported issues, our client undertook swift and decisive action by evicting the tenant responsible for the unauthorised activities.'
The café has now suggested suspending its license for three months.

This is to ensure that "right-to-work" immigration checks are carried out on all staff members.

Brit, 22, hurt in Ibiza ‘balconing' fall as tourist left with head injury at hotel at centre of Kian Harratt brawl drama

Numerous Brits have lost their lives to falls in the same town this summer HORROR PLUNGE Brit, 22, hurt in Ibiza 'balconing' fall as tourist left with head injury at hotel at centre of Kian Harratt brawl drama A BRIT tourist, 22, has suffered serious chest and head injuries after plunging from the third floor of his hotel in the Ibiza party spot San Antonio. It is the latest in a string of freak accidents to hit the resort town this summer, which have left at least three Brits dead. 3 The Brit plummeted from the third floor of Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio Credit: Solarpix 3 The fall happened at the same hotel where EFL star Kian Harratt lobbed a chair at someone in a poolside brawl in June 3 Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt was filmed throwing a chair at the Marco Polo hotel The horror accident happened around 8pm yesterday at the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio. This was the same hotel which hit headlines in June when it was the backdrop for a poolside brawl involving English footballer Kian Harratt. The plunge casualty, who has not been named, was taken to Can Misses Hospital, according to police. The Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the circumstances. A spokesman said today: "A 22-year-old British tourist was rushed to hospital after falling from the third floor of a hotel in San Antonio. "He was conscious when he was taken away." A video of a poolside brawl at the hotel went viral in June, and Oldham Athletic forward Kian Harratt was been identified launching a chair into a woman. Brit holidaymaker Kyle Crawford told The Sun Oldham Athletic forward Kian Harratt and three of his pals were "being horrible" to a group of women before the clash on June 21. And two videos captured the brawl, including one which appears to show the striker - wearing black shorts and with his distinctive goatee - lob chair at one of them. Harrat later spoke out online to say he felt "very apologetic" and "terrible" that he hit the woman. But he blamed other tourists for starting the brawl and alleges a man approached his friend first and went on to "punch him". The striker then claims a chair was thrown at him which prompted him to pick it up and threw it back. But sunseeker Kyle, who was also on holiday with a group of mates in Ibiza, Spain, contested the footballer's version of events. He told The Sun: "There was four lads, we didn't know who they were, being horrible to some women." A second source caught up in the brawl told us: "It was Kian Harratt. He was bothering these girls." Kyle said Harratt and his friends were "throwing little rugby balls" at the female tourists inside the pool, one of which being the woman that was struck by a chair later on. "They were just in the pool splashing them and throwing balls at them - being proper immature," he explained. Kyle said he and his mate stepped in to stand up for the women. More to follow... Business owner accuses neighbouring motor mechanic of 'rabid racism'

Racial abuse in the form of monkey grunts and shouts of 'monkey' accompanied by physical abuse have been directed at a Nigerian national with a car valeting business in Tallaght, Dublin, the High Court was told on Tuesday. Ms Justice Eileen Roberts heard allegations that a motor mechanic and neighbouring Lithuanian businessman, Vilmantas Zutkis, was responsible for 'rabid racism' against Stanley Abayeneme who owns the car cleaning business. Barrister Femi Daniyan, who appeared with Waheed Mudah of Kevin Tunney Solicitors, Tallaght, told Judge Roberts that Mr Abayeneme was seeking a restraining order against Zutkis, regarding the alleged racism, and against John McLaughlin, the landlord to both businessmen, regarding his alleged blocking of Abayeneme's valeting unit by placing a 40 foot long steel container in front of it. Although interim restraints were sought by Abayeneme in the absence of both Zutkis and landlord McLoughlin, of Coolfadda House, Laurel Walk, Bandon, Co Cork, Judge Roberts granted only an order for short service of proceedings against both defendants. Mr Abayeneme told Judge Roberts in written evidence that he rented Unit 2 Greenhills Bungalows, Blessington Road, Tallaght, from McLoughlin and Zutkis rented the adjoining Unit 1 for his car servicing business. Abayeneme stated: I have always been subjected to racial and physical violence (by Zutkis) and have made a number of complaints to Gardaí and the landlord with nothing done by either of the two. He said Zutkis's conduct was aggressive and obstructive and included direct racial abuse of him in front of his customers, threats to his employee and interference to footfall with his business. '(Zutkis) will come to my unit and racially abuse me and my worker, John Onuigbo Obinna, calling us monkeys, placing bananas in front of our shop and threatening (us) with deportation back to Nigeria in a container,' Mr Abayeneme told the court. Although Zutkis had claimed not to have any English he would make racist slurs at every opportunity trying to provoke a reaction, Abayeneme claimed. He had suffered daily stress, reputational damage and financial loss and, although having reported him to their landlord, McLoughlin had failed to intervene but had admitted to placing the container in an attempt to get him out and instructing him to vacate the unit. He said both Zutkis, by parking cars, and McLoughlin by placing the container, were obstructing access to and even the view of his unit. Last week his unit had been burgled and tyres, tools and cash worth €200,000 had been taken. Anti-social behavior Counsel opened correspondence between Kevin Tunney Solicitors for Abayeneme and Dillon Eustace, on record for Mr McLoughlin, of the REMCOLL Group, in which it was alleged Abeyeneme was responsible for anti-social behavior. Dillon Eustace stated in a letter of August 5 last that Mr McLoughlin had video evidence of Abayeneme attacking Zutkis with a stick and visibly breaking it on his leg; throwing a ladder at Mr Zutkis and damaging property by spray-painting windows. Judge Roberts heard that Mr Abayeneme had made seven different complaints to gardaí at Tallaght, quoting Pulse numbers, and instead of any action having been taken by them on his behalf, he was now facing prosecution for the alleged breaking of two window panes in Zutkis's unit. Judge Roberts directed that notification of short service of the application for injunctions be made to Mr Zutkis and Mr McLoughlin and returned the proceedings until Friday.

Defiant locals vow to hang hundreds of St George's flags across UK after council sparked fury by tearing them down

DEFIANT locals are vowing to hang hundreds of St George's flags across the UK after councils sparked fury by tearing them down. The Union Jack and St George's flags were raised by locals up and down the country as part of a movement online called 'Operation Raise the Colours'. 11 England flags flying on lampposts on Genners Lane along Bartley Reservoir in Birmingham Credit: SWNS 11 A St George's flag is displayed on a street in Tower Hamlets, east London Credit: LNP 11 Pictures posted on Operation Raise The Colours Credit: Facebook 11 Flags were also hung on a bridge in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester Credit: LNP Operation Raise the Colours saw flags first raised in East London and Birmingham this month before they were ordered to be taken down. The movement has led to communities across the country hanging up flags on their streets, including Manchester, Bradford, Newcastle, Norwich and the Isle of Wight, in defiance of council bans. Activists are continuing to use a Facebook page to help gather flags together. Members are chipping in with offers of transport and equipment, such as ladders. One user posted: "60 of the 120 just collected... going to be a busy few evenings." A second wrote: "I just feel that the time has come to all band together and refuse to be bullied, we are proud of our country and should not be made to feel otherwise." It comes after Sir Keir Starmer said he 'absolutely' supports people putting up English flags amid the row, a spokesperson said. Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman, who was found guilty of electoral fraud in 2015, has thwarted the campaign. The national flags will now be ripped down "as part of routine maintenance". Residents hit out after Tower Hamlets Council in east London announced the patriotic displays would be removed. Group members have vowed to redouble their efforts and rejected criticism the movement is "aggressive". And the PM 'absolutely' supports people putting up the English flags, it was revealed. Protesters arrested near migrant hotel after 'asylum seeker guest' arrested on suspicion of assault Asked about the saga, the PM's spokesman said: 'I haven't asked him about specific cases, specific councils, but I think the PM has always talked about his pride in being British, the patriotism he feels." Pressed if he supports people flying the English flag, the spokesman said: 'Absolutely - we put up English flags all around Downing Street every time the English football team, women's and men's are out, trying to win games for us.' However, the PM stopped short of commenting on individual cases such as the disputes in Birmingham and Tower Hamlets. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp slammed the "two-tier policy" earlier this week. "The Union Flag and St George's Cross are part of our national identity," he said. "Displaying these flags shouldn't just be allowed - it should be encouraged, and they should fly with pride "Councils like Birmingham and Tower Hamlets allowed flags of other counties to be displayed for weeks or months. "But at the first sign of our national flags and they come straight down. "More two tier policy. It is simply wrong.' 11 Residents raising flags in Tower Hamlets Credit: instagram/@ 11 Patriotic flags tied to lamp posts in Birmingham Credit: BPM 11 Flags raised in Tower Hamlets, east London Credit: LNP 11 A picture posted online on the Facebook group Credit: Facebook But a spokesperson for the council said: "We are aware members of the public have been putting up St George's flags on various structures. "While we recognise people wish to express their views, we have a responsibility to monitor and maintain council infrastructure. "Where flags are attached to council-owned infrastructure without permission, they may be removed as part of routine maintenance." This comes after locals put up the St George's flags on houses and streetlights in Northfield, Birmingham, in what was described as a show of "patriotic outpouring". The Union Jack and St George's flags were put up using ladders and cable ties by a group of residents called the Weoley Warriors. Funded by £2,500 of public donations, the campaign is intended to 'show Birmingham and the rest of the country of how proud we are of our history, freedoms and achievements'. But Birmingham City Council confirmed the flags will be removed, saying the "unauthorised items" are "dangerous" and could potentially kill motorists and pedestrians. The council said that the extra weight could "potentially lead to collapse" in the future. 11 A residential street in Radcliffe was covered with flags Credit: LNP 11 A roundabout at the junction of Haunch Lane and Warstock Lane in Birmingham was painted over Credit: SWNS:South West News Service
