PSG inspired by Los Angeles as it sets out to build new stadium
PSG has outgrown the 48,000-capacity Parc des Princes, and team officials will spend a year studying potential sites in Massy and Poissy with an eye toward offering a variety of entertainment options, Melero said.
"The next challenge is a new stadium," Melero told Reuters in Los Angeles ahead of PSG's Club World Cup match on Sunday in Pasadena.
"For one year we're going to go into an analysis and make a choice for our future, and we're inspired by what is going on in the U.S. with sports facilities," he said.
"One example here is SoFi Stadium. It's incredible and much more than a sports facility - it really is part of entertainment and shows. So that is what we really want to push to diversify our revenue."
SoFi Stadium, a technological marvel that opened in 2020, is home to the NFL's Rams and Chargers and has hosted concerts by artists like Taylor Swift and Beyonce. It will play a key role in next summer's World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The $5 billion stadium is located in Hollywood Park, a growing commercial and residential area. The 70,000-capacity indoor-outdoor stadium sits next to Intuit Dome, the high-tech NBA arena that opened last year.
PSG is looking at Massy, south of Paris, and Poissy, west of the French capital, as potential sites for a new stadium. The team will play Parc des Princes for the foreseeable future while the new stadium is built.
U.S. fans and investors have played a vital role in the stunning success of the club both on and off the field, said Adrien Frier, the French consul-general in Los Angeles.
"Paris St Germain is what you would call in the tech sector a unicorn, and it's a unicorn that has some American blood in it," he said at a reception honoring the team in Beverly Hills, where the Champions League trophy was on display.
PSG has an estimated five million fans in the U.S. and has benefited from its high-profile partnership with Nike's iconic Air Jordan brand.
U.S.-based Arctos Partners holds 12.5 per cent of the shares of the team, with majority owner Qatar Sports Investments owning the remaining 87.5 per cent for a club that is valued at $4.4 billion.
Melero said the team's ambitions are only growing.
"We wrote the story of the club with that cup," he said, gesturing toward the gleaming trophy.

It's difficult for the players to fully understand it," Howe said. "But as time's gone on, there's been an acceptance that this is the squad and we've got to make the best of the situation. JOHANNESBURG :South Africa head to the Women's Rugby World Cup in England this month without the same aura about them as the men's team but with renewed belief having shown rapid improvement in the last 12 months under coach Swys de Bruin. The Springbok men have a record four World Cup titles, including the last two, with the famous green and gold jerseys entrenched in the everyday lives of many South Africans, who live and breathe every kick, pass and try. The women's team have traditionally not enjoyed the same popularity, but under De Bruin results have picked up markedly, including a 41-24 victory against a New Zealand Black Ferns XV in Cape Town earlier this month. South Africa are in a World Cup pool with powerhouse France, Italy and Brazil. The game against the Italians at York Community Stadium on August 31 is likely to be key with two teams advancing from Pool D to the quarter-finals. "You see the girls and it's the biggest occasion in most of their lives," De Bruin, who has previously been part of Rassie Erasmus' coaching team with the men's Springboks, told Reuters. "I think the last game took us to where we want to be to see what we can do. So that was the one we needed. Now it's just to get on the plane and make South Africa proud. "We've got to focus completely on (first opponents) Brazil. We can't get ahead of ourselves. If we can make the knockout rounds, anything can happen, that's the aim." South Africa face the Brazilians on August 24 at Franklin's Gardens in Northampton. Babalwa Latsha, who captained the side against the Black Ferns XV and became the first female from Africa to play professionally in 2020, believes the looming World Cup will be a turning point for the women's game. "Personally, to be part of this phenomenal squad, at what will probably be the best World Cup in women's rugby history, is a massive honour for me," she said. "It's a turning point for women's rugby as a whole. "The success of the (men's) Springboks side is a success for us all. What they have done for rugby has been incredible and we take motivation from that. However, the Springbok women are on a unique journey."
