Cardinals QB Kyler Murray explains interception against Chiefs in preseason opener
The Arizona Cardinals opened their preseason schedule on Saturday with a 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium. They rallied back from a 14-3 second-quarter deficit. The starting offense played just over a quarter, playing two possessions and scoring three points. Quarterback Kyler Murray both looked good in his limited time on the field, but he also threw a critical interception in the red zone of the Cardinals' first possession. Murray explained what happened after the game. Essentially, he underthrew the ball. 'I just didn't get enough on it," he said postgame. "That's something that in practice, I'm never really rolling out full speed as if somebody's actually going to tackle me. It's kind of weird to explain. I've just got to get more on it. I'm glad it happened though, because I would hate for that to be New Orleans, and it means something.' Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks also baited the throw. Hicks made it look like he was coming back down to cover Trey McBride, who was closer to the line of scrimmage and at the sideline, leading Murray to believe that he could just drop the throw in over the top to get to Marvin Harrison Jr. Murray, who hadn't played in the preseason since 2021, was happy to get full-speed reps and have to make throws against players who are allowed to hit and tackle him. Even in full-speed practices, it isn't the same for Murray, as defenders are not allowed to hit the quarterback or tackle players to the ground. "That's something that you can't replicate in practice, moving around at the speed that you're moving at, going left to right lateral, having guys move and bodies moving," he said. We don't know yet whether or not Murray will get anymore preseason action. Starters traditionally do not play in the final game, and the Cardinals will have a joint practice this coming week ahead of their preseason game against the Denver Broncos. The last two years, following joint practices, the Cardinals' starters have not played. While no one wants to see Murray turn the ball over, the offense ran well. He completed all his other passes, getting the ball to five different pass catchers. They moved the ball. They just didn't finish their drives. If that is all Murray does in the preseason, it should give some good momentum toward the regular season. Trade pitch sees Toronto Maple Leafs part ways with breakout forward who may not fit in Craig Berube's lineup
Trade pitch sees Toronto Maple Leafs part ways with breakout forward who may not fit in Craig Berube's lineup originally appeared on The Sporting News Although the Toronto Maple Leafs have had a pretty solid offseason so far, they are still missing a couple key pieces for Craig Berube's new-look lineup. Swapping out finesse for physicality, the Maple Leafs are looking to be meaner, tougher, and potentially downright nasty at points. Their added depth shows they have a clear goal in mind, but they still lack a solid playoff performer. Instead of the typical names that have been thrown about, and all this talk about expensive top-six targets, perhaps it would best behoove Brad Treliving to think smaller, well at least in name value. That's what Cole Shelton of thinks, as he believes the team should take a chance at swapping out Bobby McMann for Alexei Toropchenko, but would it actually work out for the Maple Leafs? Looking at it from the outside, not really considering that McMann just scored 20 goals for the team, and Toropchenko only hit four goals last season, but does have 60 points in 259 games (30 goals, 30 assists). But he has familiarity with Craig Berube, having played under him and finding some moderate success. He also adds a huge dynamic; literally. He's 6'6, 222 pounds and is a physical force (223 hits last season). If he can find his offensive success again, he can add roughly the same output as McMann, with a better fit in the overall lineup. With how the Maple Leafs are built now, adding Toropchenko is a great way to keep that DNA change while also improving over McMann's inconsistencies (McMann had no goals this postseason, at least Toropchenko had two) and at only 26, clears the Leafs forward in age by a good few years; McMann just turned 29. The Leafs would have to do some some shuffling to get Toropchenko in the lineup, where we could see something like this: Matthew Knies -- Auston Matthews -- Max Domi Matias Maccelli -- John Tavares -- William Nylander Dakota Joshua -- Nicolas Roy -- Nick Robertson Alexey Toropchenko - Scott Laughton -- Steven Lorentz This all depends on Toronto moving Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf out of the lineup, but overall this gives Craig Berube a massive amount of depth, while still giving him the physical presence he almost demands. It may seem silly to sell on Bobby McMann especially after a 20-goal season, but the Maple Leafs are in the business of change, and there's no one better to bring that than Alexey Toropchenko.

Austin Hill Responds To 'Error' That Has Fans Angry At Him
Austin Hill Responds To 'Error' That Has Fans Angry At Him originally appeared on The Spun. That's one way to put it. Things got a little crazy at this year's Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen thanks to a lengthy red flag courtesy of driver Austin Hill. In his first race back from a one-week suspension for reckless driving, the Richard Childress wheelman seemingly doubled-down on his actions by setting off a massive pileup after getting into the back of Michael McDowell and sending him into the guardrail. Hill ended up taking ownership of the fault in the aftermath. But it still didn't sit well with fans or some of his other fellow drivers. "Mainly, I would get to people's right sides, and that time, I ended up getting to his left side," Hill explained from his car mid-race. "I thought that it could work. We obviously don't have a ton of spotters around here. I don't know if he has a spotter off of that carousel corner. He might not. But as soon as I saw he was staying tight to the grass, I probably should have lifted." "That was definitely just on me. Just driver error," he admitted. "I'm going for it here. The No. 88 is driving away from us and I felt like I needed to make a move as fast as possible on the No. 11. Destroyed a lot of race cars, so it's just really unfortunate." Users had very little sympathy on X. "Not sure how that's an error," a fan tagged Hill. "This isn't blue collar racing ... it's desperation with a side of stupidity." "he'll say this then send Connor into the fan zone on this next restart," another predicted. "After he [spent] the first portion deflecting he finally said it, tell the whole story," a viewer pointed out. "He can also tell Jamie McMurray what flight he will be taking on his vacation next week," another person quipped. "He says that all the time. And never learns his lesson." "This is just sad that this is the state of stock car racing now..." another fan commented. "Austin Hill should be permanently banned from NASCAR! He has once again proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he just doesn't possess the mental capacity or maturity to race at this level!" another user exclaimed. "Park him one lap for each car he tore up," another racing supporter called for. Thankfully everyone involved was OK and didn't suffer any major injuries from the scary sequence of events. Prior to today's Mission 200, Hill said he had no regrets about the Aric Almirola incident in Indy: "I'll probably get backlash for it, but absolutely not. I'm gonna still race the that I always do. I'm a hard-nosed racer," Hill shared.
