Another cougar warning issued after mountain biker attacked near Squamish, B.C.
COS says the man was cycling in the Alpine Capone area along Brohm Ridge at 6:30 p.m. when the cougar began to "pursue" him.
"The cougar made contact and continued to follow him down the trail for approximately 20 minutes. The man, who was walking backwards holding his bike, managed to throw rocks at the cougar, which disengaged," said a statement from COS.
The man received minor injuries.
The incident happened near the location where aggressive cougar activity led to t rails being closed earlier this summer. COS says it is unable to confirm if the same animal is involved.
People are being asked to take precautions to avoid cougar encounters by staying in groups, making noise, keeping pets on a leash and carrying bear spray.

One of Canada's most wanted fugitives arrested in Montreal's Trudeau airport
A man who's been on the list of Canada's top 25 most wanted fugitives for murder and drug trafficking charges in Saskatoon dating back to 2022 has been arrested at the airport in Montreal while police say he was returning to Canada. Quebec provincial police say officers from the Surete du Quebec Airport Unit, the Mascouche Major Crime Investigation Division and the Canada Border Services Agency arrested Jonathan Ouellet-Gendron on several Canada-wide warrants at Montreal's Trudeau International Airport on Saturday. A Saskatoon Police Service news release from May 2022 says Ouellet-Gendron, 36, was first sought by police after being identified as a suspect in a homicide that occurred in the 700 Block of Melrose Avenue. He was added to the Bolo Program — a list identifying the top 25 most wanted fugitives in Canada — in May 2023, taking the 10th spot. Quebec police say Ouellet-Gendron is expected to appear in a Montreal courthouse Sunday. Saskatoon police said in May 2022 they responded to a report of an injured man, followed by multiple reports of shots being fired. Another injured person was reported to have been taken to hospital, police said. When they arrived at 700 Melrose Ave., they said they found 29-year-old Brandon Baxandall dead behind an apartment building. Soon afterwards, police said they were looking to identify two men of slim builds that were seen fleeing the area in dark clothing _ one carrying a bag with a strap. On May 24, 2022, police announced that Ouellet-Gendron was charged with first-degree murder in Baxandall's death. They said he was still at large and warned the public that he was believed to be in possession of a firearm and should not be approached. Last year, Mohamed Abdula Ali was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the case. Late last year Saskatoon police posted an eight-minute video on YouTube about their response and investigation into the homicide. It included dashcam video from a police cruiser arriving at the scene, where a person in the corner of the frame can be seen performing chest compressions on a person on the ground. There's also video of officers with rifles arriving at the scene and more video of officers clearing units in the apartment building. Still photos of handguns are shown, and the video said three firearms were recovered in the hours after the investigation began. Tear gas, smashed windows, and a burning trash can at Montreal Rad Pride march
Members of the P!nk Bloc participate in the annual Rad Pride event held the night before the annual parade in Montreal. (P!nk Bloc) Montreal police (SPVM) used tear gas on Rad Pride marchers as windows were smashed, and a garbage can was set on fire on Saturday night. The third annual event, billed as an 'alternative pride event,' began at 9:30 p.m. at Place Émilie-Gamelin on the western edge of The Village in Montreal's Ville-Marie borough. SPVM report that at around 9:50 p.m., participants started to walk towards Sainte-Catherine Street and were blocked by police. They then pushed against police and began throwing objects at officers, spokesperson Manuel Couture said. Police then used tear gas to disperse the crowd. A trash can was set on fire, and several windows of the National Bank on the corner of Saint-Hubert and Saint-Catherine streets were smashed. Couture said the event ended around 10:30 p.m. and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests were made on Saturday night. Six organizations (the P!nk Bloc, TRAPS, FLIP, OPEN Maisonneuve, FAGS, and Brûlances) launched Rad Pride three years ago. This year, organizers say 30 organizations co-signed a call for the alternative Pride event, which took place the day before Sunday's Fierté Montréal Pride parade. 'Unlike the official marches supported by sponsors and monitored by the police, Rad Pride advocates a direct, community-based, and unregulated approach," Rad Pride said in a news release. 'It follows in the tradition of the Stonewall riots and all radical queer resistance movements.' The Rad Pride call to march rejects 'the corporate and state co-opting of queer struggles, wishing to celebrate a festive and radical pride rooted in revolt, memory, and solidarity.' Rad Pride says the official Pride organization only serves 'the whitest, cis and most affluent' portion of the communities. 'More and more people are taking a stand against co-optation and for a return to the militant roots of our history,' said trans activist Camille in the news release. 'Plus, Rad Pride is really unique. It's a real carnival with music, beach balls, costumes of all kinds, papier-mâché effigies, and more.'
