Catherine Tyldesley admits she goes days without speaking to her kids
Catherine Tyldesley has revealed the tough realities of her job and how she copes being away from her family. The actress, 41, shares her son Alfie, 10, and daughter Iris, three, with her husband Tom Pitfield.
However, in a bombshell revelation Catherine said she can go multiple days without speaking to her young children. Catherine, who found fame on Coronation Street, explained it is not uncommon for her to be away from the family for long periods.
She has recently starred in The Good Ship Murder, which was filmed on a luxury cruise ship in Malta. While Catherine was away working on the series in the lavish location, Tom stayed at home to be with their kids.
Due to the stark contrasts in her work and home life, Catherine admitted it makes her feel she is "somebody else". Explaining the situation, the TV star said: "When I'm on set, being in Malta as much as I have been, a year-and-a-half in total if you join it all up; I'm OK, because it's very fast paced.
"A little bit like it was on Corrie; my head is firmly in work mode. I'm somebody else, I'm not me. But it's when I get back to that hotel in the evening and it's silent.. The bedtime routine, bath time, not being able sit on the bed and read Iris a book or chat to Alfie about how his day was."
She said the family use video calls, but confessed "it's not the same." Speaking on the Behind the Brood podcast, Tom told Catherine: "Some days we'll go two or three days without Zooming and that might seem mental to some people.
"The reality is, you'll sometimes want to ring Iris and she's too busy playing with her dollies." Catherine added: "We feel like we know when the time is right and I'm often on a different time zone to you.
"When I'm filming on the cruise ship, that's a nightmare because the WiFi is all over the place and we skip from tome zone, to time zone. It is difficult and I always say to the other actors on set.. they're like, 'You alright, Cath? Are you missing your kids?' And I'm like, 'I just want to sniff them'."
In response Tom joked: "It's funny, as I just want to launch them out of the window some days!" Following a rocky love life, Catherine found love with photographer Tom in 2014 and after a nine-month whirlwind romance, they announced they were expecting their first child together.
They welcomed a little boy named Alfie James and wed in 2016 in a lavish ceremony attended by many Coronation Street co-stars. The couple later welcomed their second child, a little girl named Iris Ella, who was born in April 2022.
Catherine hasn't been shy about showing her love for Tom on social media as in 2023 she gushed: "Best. Dad. Ever. Someone said to me recently that the best piece of advice they'd been given was 'be careful who you chose to have kids with!' I think that's spot on!!
"They're not as golden as this one!! Wise advice. Find someone who has a heart as big as the ocean, the patience of a saint, and has SHED loads of energy!"
She added: "@tompitfieldphotography you go above and beyond every single day. You are the biggest of heroes to our children. I also think it's safe to say my inner child is very present so I am aware of how full your plate must feel my love. We love and appreciate you every single day in every single way. Thanks for knocking me up."

Coronation Street's Carla is deeply touched as Lisa makes thoughtful gesture
Carla Connor (Alison King) is touched in upcoming Coronation Street scenes when girlfriend Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) makes a thoughtful gesture. In recent scenes, Carla and Lisa came out on top in their battle against Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) for the ownership of No.6. The couple have been moving their relationship forward in recent months, agreeing to buy a house together after a turbulent few months. After making things official in November 2024, their relationship was rocked by Carla's health issues, and the return of killer brother Rob Donovan. Amid the turmoil, Lisa asked Carla to marry her, but they both agreed that it was too soon. Instead, the next logical step was for them to buy a house together, and it didn't take long to get Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) on board. Next week, there are changes afoot as the Connor-Swains begin to settle into their new home – and they're not the only ones. As Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) helps the couple pack up the flat, he opens up about his own new living arrangements, and his odd flatmate. Exit looms for Aadi in Coronation Street as he makes two major confessions
A couple of months ago actor Adam Hussain announced on his Instagram that he would soon be leaving Coronation Street and his role of Aadi Alahan. 'I guess the secrets out now!' he wrote. 'As some of you may have heard, I will be leaving Coronation Street for new pastures. 'Over the 5 years I've spent there I have learned so much about the world and the industry and now feel I am ready to spread my wings a little. I have made friends that will last a lifetime and will surely miss such a special family!' In recent weeks the path to his exit has been laid out, beginning with a party that went disastrously wrong. Aadi had been left in charge of his dad's business while Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) was away in India. Aadi was keen to step up and show that he has what it takes to be a young entrepreneur, but he was so focused on this task that he didn't have any social life. So Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) suggested a party. Unfortunately things got out of hand when some of the party-goers took LSD, including Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). She hadn't realised she was taking the drug and had a very bad reaction, hallucinating that she was being pursued by evil Joel Deering (Calum Lill). In her terror she fell and injured herself badly, ending up in hospital. Aadi felt guilty for being responsible for drugs being at the party and did what he could to help her. This has led to the two of them embarking on a romance – but if Lauren knew that Aadi was the cause of her being 'spiked' she'd be furious. It's not the only secret hanging over Aadi. It turned out that he'd over-estimated his readiness to step into Dev's shoes and made quite the mess of the shop's finances. He tried to fix this by getting Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) to stage a robbery, thinking the insurance would pay off the debt he'd accrued. Unfortunately one of the many things that Aadi had done wrong was to forget to pay the insurance premiums. Bernie soon worked out that Aadi was behind the 'robbery' and made him admit everything else. Not wanting there to be a rift between Dev and his son, Bernie has come up with a plan to sort Aadi's financial woes out. Dev has been given a large sum of money for his wedding to Bernie, so Bernie's plan is she'll get everything for the wedding on the cheap, falsify the receipts and the difference will pay off Aadi's debt, with Dev being none the wiser. With the wedding about to take place it's make or break time for this plan, and with Aunty Rani turning up in Weatherfield to keep an eye on the proceedings and how her money is being spent, Bernie's plan is proving trickier than she envisaged. Like any soap wedding, the big day itself is eventful, but eventually Bernie walks down the aisle on Kit (Jacob Roberts)'s arm as Dev waits expectantly. The magical moment is soon followed by total panic as Bernie collapses, struggling to breathe. Asha (Tanisha Gorey) rushes to give first aid as an ambulance is called. More Trending In the wake of these shocks, Aadi is feeling guilty for the mistakes he's made and the stress he must have put on Bernie, and he gets drunk in Victoria Gardens. Lauren eventually tracks him down there and he decides he has to come clean about what happened at the party. And when Dev gets home, Aadi braces himself to tell his dad the truth about his mishandling of the business and the debts he piled up. View More » How will Dev react? But when he describes his new living arrangements and his weird flatmate, both Carla and Lisa feel sorry for him. As Carla and Lisa get on with the move, suddenly Ryan arrives carrying his rucksack with his belongings. Carla's confused, only for Lisa to tell her partner the good news that she's asked Ryan to move in with them and he's said yes. Carla is thrilled, touched by her partner's generosity with her and Ryan being so close. With that, Ryan is officially back in the household with the pair and Lisa's daughter Betsy Swain. Carla looks emotional as she thanks Lisa, with the pair holding hands and taking in the moment. Lisa realises just how much it means to Carla, as the pair move forward after tough times recently. Someone who could be left out in the cold next week is Aadi Alahan who is found knocking back booze in Victoria Gardens. Ignoring new flame Lauren Bolton's calls, she heads out to track Aadi down and he's clearly in a bad way. Aadi decides it is time to confess about what really happened at the party. When Dev and Bernie arrive home they are horrified as Aadi decides to come clean to them too - will this lead to his exit from the show? Also next week Carl Webster and Abi Franklin's affair is in full swing, as Abi fumes over her husband Kevin Webster's cancer lie. She heads out for passion with her brother-in-law, while Kevin knows full well he's losing his wife. As the week goes on it's clear the pair want to be together, continuing to meet up in secret but will they be rumbled? Also next week Tracy Barlow sparks suspicions, and it would appear Jenny Connor has the hots for George Shuttleworth who is looking for love after his split from Eileen Grimshaw. Finally next week, Theo and Todd consider moving in together, but Theo remains irritated by Todd's harmless antics at the stag do. When Todd spends time with Summer Spellman Theo has enough, and refuses to join them. Things get worse when a moment with drunken Aadi leads to the latter falling and hitting his head, and Theo gets the blame. As the police reveal there's been a report of an incident at the precinct and he needs to answer some questions, Theo is led away to the station as seen by Billy Mayhew. But it's when a comment is made about Theo having been involved in a "violent crime" in the past that Todd is left concerned and begins to investigate - but what will he find out?
