Plane crash: MP defers Ladli Behna instalment release event
The 25th instalment of Madhya Pradesh's flagship 'Ladli Behan Yojana', originally scheduled for release on Friday (June 13), has been postponed following the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav was set to disburse the funds during a public event in Jabalpur on Friday, but in light of the tragedy, all related programmes were deferred. The chief minister wrote on his X handle, 'As the nation grieves the loss of lives in the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, I have decided to postpone the events scheduled in Jabalpur and Indore on 13 June. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. May they find strength in this difficult hour.'
Despite the delay, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to the scheme, which currently provides Rs 1,250 per month to 1.27 crore women across the state. The instalment -- amounting to nearly Rs 1,500 crore -- is expected to be transferred soon, although a revised date has not yet been announced.
Launched in June 2023, the Ladli Behan Yojana was envisioned to empower women economically and socially. Initially offering Rs 1,000 per month, the amount was raised to Rs 1,250 on Raksha Bandhan 2023, with a long-term goal of reaching Rs 3,000 per beneficiary.
The scheme has disbursed over Rs 28,000 crore across 24 instalments, significantly impacting household stability and women's autonomy in financial decisions.
In a major policy expansion, state Finance Minister Jagdish Devda announced in the 2025–26 Budget that the scheme will now be integrated with national social security programs. Beneficiaries will be linked to the 'Atal Pension Yojana', 'Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana', and 'Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana', offering life and accident insurance as well as post-retirement financial support. This integration aims to ensure long-term security for women, especially those in vulnerable socio-economic groups. A budgetary allocation of Rs 18,669 crore has been earmarked for the 'Ladli Behan Yojana' this fiscal year, underscoring the government's continued prioritisation of women's welfare.
As the people mourn the Ahmedabad tragedy, the scheme remains a symbol of resilience and hope for millions of women in Madhya Pradesh.

She hit out at the government over safety issues, alleging failed promises, and scheme cuts. Speaking at a round table meeting organised today to discuss the impact of one year of NDA coalition rule, YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani highlighted several key concerns regarding women's welfare and safety under the current government. She stated, 'This meeting was focused on the welfare of women and the increasing atrocities against women under the NDA coalition government. Many women participants expressed their deep disappointment, saying they had trusted and voted for the coalition parties, only to be betrayed. Not a single major promise made by the current government has been fulfilled, and women's safety has been completely neglected. On average, 70 to 80 cases of atrocities against women are being reported every day in Andhra Pradesh. This alone reflects the deteriorating condition of law and order in the state.' She further added, 'In the last one year, the coalition government hasn't even conducted a single review on women's safety. In contrast, during our YSRCP government, CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy gave top priority to women's safety and implemented 99 percent of the promises made to the people. Our police were deployed to protect citizens and implement welfare schemes. But today, they are being misused to frame false cases against YSRCP leaders instead of ensuring women's safety.' Kalyani also pointed out the government's financial mismanagement: 'In just one year, the NDA coalition has borrowed Rs 1.65 lakh crore, while our government borrowed Rs 3.5 lakh crore over five years. They have already borrowed more than 50 percent of what we did in our full term.' She concluded by saying, 'We will continue to fight against this government until they implement the promised schemes. The people, especially women, are waiting for Jagan Mohan Reddy's return to power because of the good governance he delivered.' Criticising TDP leader Nara Lokesh, she remarked, 'When Jagan Mohan Reddy was Chief Minister, Lokesh used to oppose the education policies. But now, they've simply renamed our 'Amma Vodi' scheme as 'Talli Ki Vandanam' while failing to implement it properly for an entire year. Just before the elections, they announced financial assistance but deducted Rs 2,000 from each beneficiary. They promised Rs 15,000 but disbursed only Rs 13,000. This clearly shows their poor commitment and false promises. They should think carefully before making statements and honour what they say.' (ANI)

Special prayers held in Udhampur Mosque for victims of Ahmedabad plane crash
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 15 (ANI): In a gesture of condolence and solidarity, mosques in Sallain Talab, Udhampur (J-K), conducted special prayers for the victims of the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. Jamia Masjid Sallain Talab Imam Bashir Ahamed Usmani spoke with great sadness over the unfortunate incident, saying, 'Recently, a tragic incident occurred in Ahmedabad, and we share our condolences with the families of those who have lost their lives. This is a tremendous loss that has left us with huge grief.' He indicated that the community supports the bereaved families during this moment of grief. After the afternoon prayers (Nawaze Johar), special prayers (Dua) were arranged at the mosque in order to call for God's mercy for the deceased souls. Usmani further remarked, 'We, the people of this nation, are saddened by this Incident, which has taken so many lives and left families in grief. May the deceased rest in peace, and may the bereaved find strength and comfort in the collective prayers of the community.' The prayers indicated the shared sorrow and sympathy of the local people, who came together, grieving the national tragedy. Apart from this, Parmarth Niketan Ashram President Swami Chidanand Saraswati performed special prayers and aarti on the banks of the Ganga in Rishikesh to pay tribute to the victims of the tragic AI-171 plane crash, which claimed 241 lives. Calling the incident 'shocking and disturbing,' Swami Chidanand said the entire environment was engulfed in grief as thousands joined in the collective prayer for the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the sole survivor. He also paid tribute to former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who died in the crash, describing him as a 'very dear person.' The deadly accident has shaken the country and led to condolences and prayers pouring in from several states. In Uttarakhand's Haridwar, hundreds of people gathered on the banks of the Ganga River to offer prayers for the deceased. Locals and priests performed rituals and lit lamps as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the horrific crash. In Tamil Nadu, members of the Rameswaram People's Protection Council paid heartfelt homage to the victims at Agni Theertham beach in Pamban. Flowers were floated into the sea, and silence was observed to remember the passengers and crew who died in the crash. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 plane bound for London's Gatwick crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. Of the passengers, 241 died in the crash. The lone survivor, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. Following the crash, the Tata group, which owns Air India, announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore each for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Air India plane crash on Thursday.
