Influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabhi received death threat from gangster before suspected murder: ‘Ruining Punjab's youth…'

Minta day ago

Kanchan Kumari alias Kamal Kaur - influencer who was found dead in a car in Punjab on Wednesday - had received death threats from notorious gangster Arshdeep Singh Gill, better known as Arsh Dalla, last year.
In an audio recording reported by News18 last year, the gangster can be heard saying that Kamal was ruining Punjab's youth
'I want to put across a message that Kamal Kaur also uploads a lot of rubbish,' he can be heard saying in the audio in Punjabi.
'If she doesn't stop, we will kill her family to prove that they are ruining Punjab's youth. It will not matter much if there's one less family in Punjab,' he added.
The influencer was missing since June 9, and her body was found in an abandoned car in a parking lot in Punjab's Bathinda district, police said on Thursday.
The 30-year-old, also known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, had 3.84 lakh followers on Instagram and ran a YouTube channel called 'Funny Bhabhi' with 2.36 lakh subscribers.
According to the police, Kamal hailed from Ludhiana and had left home on June 9 for a promotional event. The family could not contact her after that.
The body was discovered when locals informed the police about a foul smell emanating from a car in the parking area near Bathinda's Adesh University.
Police found the body in the rear seat.
Arsh Dalla is considered to be the de facto chief of the Khalistan Tiger Force and was arrested in Canada in November last year. He is accused of over 50 murder cases and acts of terror, including terror financing.
In an official statement last year, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that he was designated as an individual terrorist in 2023 by the government and they had asked for his arrest to the Canadian government.
'Our agencies will be following up on an extradition request,' ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said.
'Given Arsh Dalla's criminal record in India and his involvement in similar illegal activities in Canada, it is expected that he will be extradited or deported to face justice in India,' he added.
However, there have not been many updates on this after the November 14 statement.

Bathinda police arrest two ‘nihangs' for social media influencer's murder

Two nihangs were arrested on Friday for the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, 30, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her car parked outside Adesh University at Bhucho Kalan along the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway on Wednesday. Bathinda senior superintendent of police Amneet Kondal said Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh were arrested for the murder, while a search was on for the third accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, a self-styled Sikh radical leader, who is absconding. 'Kanchan was strangulated to death,' the SSP said, terming the crime an outcome of 'unauthorised moral policing'. During preliminary probe, the arrested accused said they killed Kanchan for uploading immoral content 'that hurt the community's sentiments'. Mehron had approached Kanchan last week on the pretext of a business meeting, inviting her to Bathinda to attend a paid promotion event, the SSP said. She left her house in Ludhiana at 3.30pm on June 9 with Jaspreet and Nimratjit and a few hours later she was strangulated with a waistband in her car. The accused were not in nihang attire when they committed the crime, the police said. Kanchan, who had 2.36 lakh followers on YouTube, 3.84 lakh on Instagram and 1.74 lakh on Facebook, had received threats for posting explicit content on social media. In October last year, terrorist Arsh Dalla had also reportedly threatened her with dire consequences if she did not stop posting inappropriate videos. The arrests were made after a radical Sikh group claimed responsibility for the murder on social media hours after Kanchan's decomposed body was recovered from the car. A video has surfaced on social media in which Mehron is seen justifying the crime, saying Kanchan was killed by two of his accomplices. He said she belonged to a non-Sikh family but used a Sikh name for creating 'immoral digital content'. He went on to add that his accomplices would target people engaged in objectionable content creation. Police got a lead in the case when a CCTV video surfaced where an unidentified person wearing a turban was spotted driving into Adesh hospital parking lot at 5.30am on June 10. A resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana, Kanchan had left home, saying she was going to Bathinda for a promotional event but subsequently lost contact with her family. Local residents in the Bhucho suburb informed police about stench emanating from the car on June 11. Police rushed to the spot and found the woman dead on the rear seat of the car and she was later identified as Kanchan. A murder case was registered on the complaint of her mother, Girja Devi, at Bathinda's cantonment police station. Kanchan's last rites were performed in Bathinda on Thursday evening.

Punjab shocker: Social media influencer Kamal Kaur's murder linked to moral policing over bold content, use of ‘Kaur'; 2 arrested

BATHINDA: Punjab Police have revealed that social media influencer Kanchan Devi, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, was murdered in Bathinda in a suspected case of moral policing. The 25-year-old, known for posting bold content on Instagram, was strangled and left inside a locked car near Adesh Medical University. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal said a Nihang, Amritpal Singh Mehro, allegedly conspired to kill Kaur, claiming her social media posts were "spoiling society". He had earlier threatened her and later approached her under the pretext of promoting a video related to cars. On 7 and 8 June, Mehro visited her Ludhiana home and convinced her and her family to agree to the video shoot. On 9 June, he sent his associates, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, in a Scorpio SUV to bring her to Bathinda. Kaur travelled separately in her Hyundai Eon. Near Bathinda, they stopped at a car workshop under the guise of repairing her vehicle. There, the duo reportedly asked her to stop posting 'vulgar' content and to drop 'Kaur' from her name. Later, Jaspreet Singh strangled her with a piece of cloth while she was in her car. Her body was placed on the rear seat and the car was left parked at Adesh University. SSP Kondal said the murder likely took place during the night of 9–10 June. Jaspreet and Nimratjit were arrested on Thursday, while Amritpal Singh Mehro remains absconding. A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered against all three. Police also revealed that Amritpal and Nimratjit Singh had previously been booked in a similar moral policing case at Dhanaula police station in Barnala district in 2021.
