Haryana CM holds meeting ahead of International Yoga Day event in Kurukshetra

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that with cleanliness and yoga, the country will move towards realising the dream of 'Viksit Bharat' at a fast pace.
Preparations for International Yoga Day 2025 have begun with the launch of a cleanliness campaign on May 27, and daily yoga classes are underway for the grand event on June 21.
CM Saini said, 'When Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of Yoga at the United Nations, 177 countries agreed. Today, Yoga, derived from our land, has reached everyone globally. The Prime Minister has worked to spread the message of yoga all over the world.'
CM Saini said the International Yoga Day programme in Kurukshetra will be historic and grand. 'Our ancient ideology is included in yoga. Rishis have given us yoga and meditation as a gift. By doing yoga, a man remains healthy,' he added.
The Chief Minister addressed a meeting organised with various institutions regarding International Yoga Day in the auditorium of the Multi-Art Cultural Centre, Kurukshetra, on Sunday.
The Chief Minister urged the officials of institutions, NGOs, business organisations, and other organisations present at the meeting to contribute to the programme's success. He also asked Patanjali Yog Peeth to spread the message of yoga in every house of the city.
The Chief Minister said Swami Ramdev has been spreading yoga in the country and the world. 'The arrival of Baba Ramdev on June 21 in Kurukshetra, the land of Lord Krishna, is a matter of great pride for the people of Kurukshetra,' he added.
He said the theme of International Yoga Day this year is 'One Earth, One Health', and the Haryana Government has also added the slogan 'Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt'.
The Chief Minister said people have started taking medicines to cure minor diseases, whereas those diseases can be easily controlled with yoga. Therefore, we all should adopt yoga. He said if we want to save our youth from addiction, they will have to adopt yoga. The Chief Minister urged the people of Kurukshetra to reach Brahma Sarovar and Mela Ground at 4 am on June 21 to mark their presence in this great 'yagya' of yoga.
He said more people should be involved in this campaign, and whoever has been given any responsibility should fulfil it as a priority.
He said that, like festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Bhai Dooj, this International Yoga Day should be celebrated similarly.
It was informed that the Brahma Sarovar and Mela Ground have been divided into 103 sectors. Out of these, 64 sectors have been made in Brahma Sarovar and 37 sectors in the Mela Ground and surrounding areas.
The Chief Minister administered an oath to institutions, NGOs, and other people present in the auditorium to adopt yoga, pranayama, and meditation regularly in life, to avoid addiction, and to inspire others to do the same. He also inspired them to promote yoga in their families, society, and workplace.
Former State Minister Subhash Sudha said the International Yoga Day programme on June 21 is a matter of good fortune for the people of Kurukshetra. This programme will be seen all over the world, he claimed. Citizens from every house of the city will participate in this programme. He also demanded that the Chief Minister open a meditation centre in the city.
Haryana Yog Aayog Chairman Dr. Jaideep Arya said that on June 21, environmental protection is starting with yoga from Kurukshetra. He said 10 lakh yoga practitioners in the state will sow medicinal plants, and more than 1 lakh people in Kurukshetra will set a world record by doing yoga together.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal and District Council President Kanwaljit Kaur and other dignitaries were present. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): India's Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined by 50 points in the nine years of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA). During that time, 6.19 crore women have been examined under the scheme. According to a press note, the government's combined efforts to provide antenatal care and ensure proper nutrition for pregnant women have led to a significant improvement in India's Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), which declined from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-16 to 80 per lakh live births in 2021-23, a reduction of 50 points. According to the note, 6813 volunteers have registered to assist pregnant women under the PMSMA. Maharashtra has topped the list of the most volunteers registered under the scheme till May 2025 with 1131 volunteers, followed by 1076 in Uttar Pradesh and 1015 in Rajasthan. Uttar Pradesh has the most pregnant women in the second or third trimester receiving antenatal care under the scheme, with 189534 women who have received the facilities. Launched in June 2016, the PMSMA is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It was designed to provide assured, comprehensive, and quality antenatal care (ANC) services free of cost to all pregnant women on the 9th of every month, particularly during the second and third trimesters. The core aim is to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by facilitating early detection and prompt management of high-risk pregnancies. The press note says that the programme follows a systematic approach to engagement with the private sector, which includes motivating private practitioners to volunteer for the campaign, helping develop strategies for spreading awareness, and participating in the Abhiyan at government health facilities. The PMSMA aligns with the broader goals of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) strategy under the National Health Mission (NHM). The main objectives of the scheme include ensuring that every pregnant woman receives at least one check-up by a physician/specialist during the second or third trimester, improve the quality of care during antenatal visits, identifying and managing high-risk pregnancies (HRP) at an early stage, appropriate birth planning and complication readiness for each pregnant woman, ensuring appropriate management of women with malnutrition and a special focus on adolescent and early pregnancies. The E-PMSMA strategy was rolled out in January 2022 to ensure the tracing and tracking of High-Risk Pregnant (HRP) women until a safe delivery is achieved by provisioning financial incentivization for the identified HRP women and accompanying Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) for an extra three visits over and above the PMSMA visit, the press note said. Services offered under the scheme include routine antenatal care checkups, diagnostic services, identification and management of high-risk pregnant women, and counselling regarding nutrition, family planning, birth preparedness, and newborn and postnatal care. PMSMA complements other government programs, including the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), which was launched to incentivise institutional deliveries through conditional cash transfers. This scheme has benefited over 11.07 crore women as of March 2025, the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), launched to promote free institutional delivery and neonatal care. More than 16.60 crore beneficiaries have been served since 2014-15, LaQshya Initiative for improving quality of care in labour rooms, the Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN), launched to strengthen respectful and quality care for pregnant women. 90,015 SUMAN health facilities have been notified across the country by March 2025, the POSHAN Abhiyaan, started to target the most vulnerable--children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers--by revamping the nutrition services and the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), launched to promote institutional delivery and ensuring maternal health, the scheme provides direct cash benefits of Rs5,000 to pregnant and lactating women. Repeat for 1–2 minutes. Dr. Yogrishi adds, 'If you're able to use some floor area beyond your chair, dynamic cat-cow with active breathing for a few minutes is wonderful for opening the spine." 2. Seated Ardha Chandrasana (Side Stretch) Raise one arm overhead and gently bend sideways, keeping the opposite hand grounded on the chair or thigh. This helps release tension in the side body, ribcage, and lungs—often constricted during long desk sessions. 3. Neck and Shoulder Rolls Gently roll the shoulders backward and forward in slow circles. Follow this with neck half-moons—chin to chest and side-to-side movements—synchronized with the breath or paired with Bhramari Pranayama to relax tension stored in the upper back, jaw, and neck. 4. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana) Balance your nervous system and bring clarity with this calming Pranayama technique. Use your right thumb and ring finger to alternate breath between nostrils, inhaling and exhaling through one side at a time. Even 2–3 minutes can reduce anxiety and support heart rate regulation. 5.
