Goth Babe animates audience at Boston Calling with crowd surfing, contest (Photos)
The singer, whose real name is Griff Washburn, delighted fans with chill beats such as 'Canary Islands,' 'Weekend Friend' and 'Casita' across his 45-minute allotted afternoon spot.
On two occasions, Washburn handed off pool floats to volunteers so that they could be carried through the crowd by their fellow spectators.

Some of the rafts eventually toppled, but the riders — assisted by members of the crowd — were lifted back into position.
Spectators also bounced around beach balls of varying sizes through the air as Goth Babe dove through his discography.
At one point, Washburn divided the crowd into left and right sections and asked concertgoers to out-dance one another, with one lucky fan winning the prize of an inflatable boat. The left side won the battle.

Goth Babe's set was followed by singer Remi Wolf and her band on the Green Stage, and was preceded by alternative rockers Spin Doctors here.

'Wednesday' Season 2: Jenna Ortega's castmates say she never breaks character filming Netflix hit
"She's on it, she's honest and ... she's so laser focused," Luis Guzmán said Wednesday has made its triumphant return with the release of Season 2, Part 1 on Netflix this week. It's a darker and twistier story that thrives in its grim mayhem, as the title character, played by Jenna Ortega, returns to Nevermore Academy. With the excitement of new cast members, including Steve Buscemi, Joanna Lumley, Billie Piper, Christopher Lloyd, Haley Joel Osment and Heather Matarazzo, the world of Wednesday is even richer than its first season. And as co-creators and showrunners, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar stressed to reporters ahead of the season premiere that they wanted to ensure they didn't rest on their laurels for the show's sophomore season. A core element of achieving that for Season 2 was getting a lot more time with the Addams family as a whole. "They dangled the carrot for us in Season 1, and I remember leaving the set going, 'Are you sure there's anything else possibly we could do?'" said Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays matriarch Morticia. "The Addams Family [is] such a modern family when you think of it. We're a family that embraces idiosyncrasies and outcasts, ... we don't try to box them away. But it was wonderful in Season 2 to be able to explore that. For us to be within Wednesday's world, even though she didn't want us to be there, but we planted ourselves there within the school grounds." Season 2 really explores the relationship between Wednesday and Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), and their relationships with Wednesday's grandmother, Morticia's mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), while Wednesday also has a lot of questions about her aunt, Morticia's sister Ophelia. "She is ghastly. The only person she really likes in the whole show is Wednesday," Lumley said about Hester. "She's fond of Wednesday because she can see in her the kind of spirit and streak of bad in her. ... She's grand, she's vain, she's greedy, and she sees in Wednesday a shining light." 'She does not break that character for nothing' But the cast was also quick to praise Ortega, crediting her for much of the success of the series. "To see the beginnings of Jenna Ortega and her continued professionalism, her sheer joy of her craft," Zeta-Jones said. "And watching this butterfly go into the stratosphere, it couldn't happen to a ... better person, and I'm just thrilled that I'm in her gang." "When I'm standing next to Jenna and Catherine, and I'm watching Jenna, ... I'm in total awe, because she does not break that character for nothing," Luis Guzmán, who plays Gomez, added. "I mean, she's on it, she's honest and ... she's so laser focused, and she's not settling for good, ... this has to be great." What makes the show particularly great is Ortega's execution of the iconic character, paired with director and executive producer Tim Burton's signature stylistic stamp. Then there's the supporting characters and intricate production design, too, that make the series a feast for the eyes as well. "I remember when I read Season 1, I felt strangely like it was written for me, even though I'm not a teenage girl, but I feel like one sometimes," Burton said. "And it's just something that really spoke to me." "I loved her take on everything from family to school to psychiatry to everything, and so that's why I wanted to do it is because of the strength of that particular character."

Dick's Sporting Goods Launches Entertainment Studio
Dick's Sporting Goods is launching its own in-house entertainment studio to get closer to sports fans with original unscripted series to fuel their own athletic passions. Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios, a new content and production studio to lean into unscripted sports themed series, follows the retailer using Hollywood production partners and filmmakers to tell stories through the lens of sport, starting in 2014. Interest in sports-themed programming around athletes at the top of their game has grown with Netflix series like Formula One: Drive to Survive and ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series. Retailers that traditionally advertised their wares on live games now look to original scripted and unscripted series in the hope consumers may embrace new brands or products through TV content they view in the streaming era. Over the last decade, Dick's Sporting Goods has produced five feature-length movies and ten short or episodic documentaries. The first feature doc was We Could Be King, which earned an Emmy Award for outstanding sports documentary. A second Sports Emmy came with The Turnaround, a documentary about Philadelphia Phillies' superfan Jon McCann, who inspired a 2023 standing ovation for Phillies shortstop Trea Turner that turned the team's season round. Upcoming projects from Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios include Big Dreams: The Little League World Series 2024, an ESPN documentary to bow Aug. 12 and centered on the iconic American youth sporting event. The film is produced in partnership with Imagine Entertainment and MLB Studios. 'Big Dreams is a great example of the kind of projects Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios aims to produce. Being able to share big sports moments with fans is something that drives our team, and we look at the upcoming years with great excitement as we know there will be so many unforgettable stories deserving of the spotlight,' Rebecca Covington, senior director, creative production at Dick's Sporting Goods said in a statement. The name of the studio, Cookie Jar & A Dream, is inspired by the company founder Dick Stack in 1948 and aged 18-year-old borrowed $300 in savings from his grandmother's cookie jar to open a bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton, New York. THUNDERBOLTS* Director Breaks Silence on Box Office Struggles and Olga Kurylenko's Role Reduction — GeekTyrant
Marvel's Thunderbolts* launched in theaters to strong reviews but fell short of expectations at the box office. Despite an inventive marketing push, the film wrapped its theatrical run with under $400 million globally, a disappointing result for what was expected to be The New Avengers event. The movie's uphill battle wasn't entirely unexpected. The roster featured characters best known to fans of Marvel's Disney+ shows, and unlike the Avengers, the Thunderbolts* brand didn't have much mainstream recognition. Now that the film is available digitally and heading to 4K and Blu-ray next week, more audiences may finally discover the team at home. Director Jake Schreier recently spoke to Variety about the theatrical performance and how he's processing the numbers. 'For me, it's so strange trying to grasp how many people watch these things. It was really fun to go around to audience screenings. You can't even take for granted that you're going to get a theatrical release, so to be part of a movie that goes out really is about the theatrical experience.' He added: 'People can share it and talk about it and say what they think, whether they liked it or didn't, and then have that continue, it's nice to be part of a movie that gets to have that life.' Schreier clearly avoided dwelling on box office figures, and honestly, it might not matter much to him. He's already been tapped to direct Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men reboot, one of the most anticipated projects in the MCU's future. The director also addressed Olga Kurylenko's recent comments about her drastically reduced role. Kurylenko, who played Taskmaster in Black Widow, revealed that her character's return in Thunderbolts* was cut down to a cameo that ended with her death, something she learned after production resumed post-strike. Schreier explained: 'Yeah, I think Olga has spoken about that. It was something that happened after the strike, when we were redeveloping the script. I know that there are people that have reached out to let me know that they're displeased with this, and I totally understand that. It's not something we did lightly.' 'Obviously, I think Olga is a wonderful actress. It's a hard thing to do. It's just showing that, for these characters, this is a thing that's done, and they feel that all of their lives don't have a ton of value.' Taskmaster's fate has divided fans, as some were hoping to see the character redeemed after her mixed reception in Black Widow, while others are indifferent to her exit. But, she did originally have a bigger role that was cut down… drastically.
