Surveillance footage captured a couple waiting until a security guard left the room before approaching the artwork. The woman appeared to pose beside it while the man sat down, causing the fragile piece to shatter under his weight.
The pair quickly fled the scene, leaving the chair in pieces.
Palazzo Maffei shared the footage on Facebook, calling the act an 'irresponsible gesture' and describing the event as 'every museum's nightmare come true.'
In their post, museum staff explained: 'While waiting for the surveillance officers to step away, some visitors took what they considered a 'cool' photo. The result? Serious damage to Nicola Bolla's 'Van Gogh' chair – a very delicate work entirely covered in Swarovski crystals.'
Initially unsure whether restoration was even possible, the museum later confirmed the chair had been successfully repaired.
They added: 'A heartfelt thank you goes to the police, our security team, and the restorers whose expert work brought the piece back to life.'
'And to all who walk our halls every day with care and wonder, thank you. Because art isn't just for viewing. It's for loving. It's for protecting.'

Meet the voice actor translating your favourite shows to Irish
Dubbing shows for international markets is nothing new — but it's fairly entertaining when a popular show gets translated in Irish. Of course, shows like SpongeBob and Bluey have been dubbed for decades over the years, and of course, more infamously, people of a certain vintage may remember when South Park — yes, honest to goodness, 'oh my god, they killed Kenny' South Park — was dubbed and played in the afternoons. But despite dubs as Gaeilge mainly reserved for kids shows (and of course the one time they did South Park), shows like The Simpsons, despite being translated into dozens of languages, have never gotten the Gaeilge treatment. Enter voice actor Jack Boylan. @jackboylanvo Steamed Hams in Irish part 1, part 2 coming soon! #thesimpsons #simpsons #steamedhams #irish #irishtiktok #gaeilge #gaeilgetiktok #irishlanguage #gaeilgeoir #cartoon #ireland #funnytiktok #comedyvideo #language #voiceover #voiceactor #animation #jackboylan ♬ original sound – Jack Boylan Jack has done voice work for over a decade, ranging from ads to announcing which celebrity and which partner are doing which dance on Dancing with the Stars (more on that in a bit!). However, he's since gone viral for his Irish translations of iconic TV shows, movies and songs; including some of the most beloved moments on our screens over the years. 'I studied music in Ireland, and then musical theatre in Dublin,' Jack told 'I spent a few years there hopping around between jobs, and then about 10 years back, I settled back in Dublin as a voice actor and piano restaurant singer, which I did until the pandemic. 'I do the voiceovers for Dancing with the Stars — it's funny, because while the dances don't change, the celebrities do, so I just go in and record who's dancing. As long as I haven't begun smoking 20 cigarettes a day, they just stitch me saying 'dancing the cha cha cha' from years ago with whoever happens to be dancing!' Jack Boylan has gone viral on TikTok for translating shows such as The Simpsons and King of the Hill, and songs such as Pink Pony Club and the Muppets theme, As Gaeilge. Pic: Jack Boylan/Instagram While some people may have taken Irish for granted growing up and may not have paid attention to the lessons in school, the rise of artists like Kneecap making the native tongue cool has seen more people going back to learn it; with Jack saying that his wife, who's Italian, helped him realise that learning foreign languages is actually pretty fun. As to how he ended up translating TV shows such as The Simpsons and King of The Hill, and songs such as Pink Pony Club (yes, really), it was an iconic line from a different Matt Groening show that sparked what has now been a viral success on TikTok. 'I would have done Irish in school, like a lot of us,' Jack said. 'The thing that kind of brought me back was that, my wife is Italian, and I spent a few years studying Italian and it just reminded me that 'hey, languages can be cool.'' Jack has worked as a voice over artist for a number of years — and is even the voice behind Dancing with the Stars. Pic: Jack Boylan/Instagram 'So that turned into [learning Irish] next — I spent some time with that, culminating earlier this year in a little trip to the Aran Islands and having conversations with locals. But the specific thing that brought me to starting the channel was the Futurama line 'shut up and take my money.' I had that line running around my head, thinking 'what would that be in Irish? Éist do bhéil agus tóg mo chuid airgead.' I basically wanted to do that.' With it snowballing from there, Jack has gained nearly 2,000 followers on TikTok and over 40,000 likes, but admitted there have been some detractors — although, he doesn't seem to mind, as some of the hate comments are incredibly creative. 'I remember doing Pink Pony Club — Club Cappailín Bándearg — and I got loads of lovely comments but someone commented 'this is the worst thing on the Internet.'' As for how these translations came about, he compared it to learning an instrument — where while learning scales (and grammar) is fair enough, sometimes you just want to learn how to play the songs you like (or, in Jack's case, translate the shows you like). 'One thing I came across is a translation of the Scott Pilgrim comics… it's a very nice translation, and that's what made me go 'oh, this is fun.' And it made me think of it like this: if you're learning an instrument as a teenager, learning guitar or whatever, even though it's good, you kinda don't want to spend all your time doing scales. You want to learn the three chords you need to play the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song, and so on. 'I'm thinking of it [the translations] in a similar way: doing steamed hams and doing whatever… it's a bit of craic.' @jackboylanvo The Muppets Show in Irish! #muppets #themuppets #kermitthefrog #irish #irishtiktok #gaeilge #gaeilgetiktok #irishlanguage #gaeilgeoir #cartoon #ireland #funnytiktok #comedyvideo #language #voiceover #voiceactor #animation #jackboylan ♬ original sound – Jack Boylan As for whether a certain Irish language channel was ever looking for someone like himself, Jack joked that one of his videos getting reposted has been the height of their interactions — although he's definitely keeping lines of communication open. 'TG4 reposted my Muppets theme song and that was the only interaction so far,' he joked. 'What's nice though, for actual voice work is I have an agent and whatnot – they can reach out to me!' Jack's voice acting and Irish translations can be found on TikTok, @JackBoylanVO.

Grieving family of Hollyoaks star's mum killed ‘in horror murder-suicide' in France ban joint funeral from taking place
Police initially probed whether it was a gangland hit linked to his former job but are now treating the tragedy as a murder-suicide MURDERED MUM Grieving family of Hollyoaks star's mum killed 'in horror murder-suicide' in France ban joint funeral from taking place GRIEVING family of a Hollyoaks star's mum has banned a joint funeral with their stepfather as cops believe he murdered her before taking his own life. Brit expats Andrew and Dawn Searle both died in February at their remote home in Les Pesquiès, north of Toulouse, France. 6 Hollyoaks star Callum Kerr with his mum Dawn Credit: Instagram 6 Callum walked his mother down the aisle in 2023 when she married Andrew Credit: Instagram 6 Andrew was found hanging inside the houe in France Credit: Facebook Financial crime buster Andrew, 62, was found hanging from a radiator while wife Dawn, 56, suffered multiple blows to the head. Police initially probed whether it was a gangland hit linked to his former job, but are now treating the tragedy as a murder-suicide. Dawn's heartbroken son Callum Kerr, an actor and singer, and his grieving sister Amanda want their mum left out of her husband's funeral. They have 'firmly' requested Andrew's family not to include her in their service and urged Dawn's friends not to go or post pictures of the couple together. Callum and Amanda wrote in a family statement posted on their social media today: 'It would be inappropriate for her memory to be associated with a service honouring the man who, based on all available evidence, may have been responsible for her death.' The siblings claim murder-suicide is the 'prevailing hypothesis', adding: 'There is also no evidence whatsoever of any third party's involvement at this stage'. They will be climbing Sicily's Mount Etna to mark what would have been their mum's 58th birthday on May 18 next year. A GoFundMe page in their mum's previous name Dawn Kerr has raised more than £3,400 for domestic violence charity Women's Aid. It reads: 'In February, our mum was taken from us. There's no way to put into words how that feels. 'But we're hoping this challenge brings some good into the world in her name. Home birth influencer arrested over death of baby 'after leaving mum in labour for TWO DAYS without calling ambulance 'We want to create something that reflects who she truly was, and to change what comes up when people search her name. 'This is for Dawn Kerr. Always.' Dawn's son, Callum, is best known for playing PC George Kiss in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks between 2020 and 2021. Callum also starred in Netflix's Virgin River - playing young Everett, Mel's father, in the most recent series. The 30-year-old has over 135,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and released his new track Cold Beer Cold just hours after his mum's death. Dawn was found lying in front of her house, partly undressed, while Andrew was found hanged from a radiator. It remains unclear when exactly the pair died. A post-mortem found Dawn died from a "significant head wound" but it remains unclear how long she had received that before the shocking discovery of their bodies. Police said she suffered "multiple blows to the head with a blunt and sharp-edged object." 6 6 Andrew was last seen on CCTV at a tobacconist

300-year-old violin to star at UK music festival
One of the most valuable violins in the world, crafted three centuries ago and once owned by composer Niccolo Paganini, is to be played at a top UK classical music festival. The violin, known as the Carrodus, is one of only around 150 made by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu known to have survived down the centuries, and was acquired by a philanthropic group for $20 million in June. It was crafted in 1743 in Cremonia, northern Italy, and will be played for the first time as part of the BBC Proms by South Korean violinist Inmo Yang. The violin once owned by Italian virtuoso Paganini will be seen on 28 August at London's Royal Albert Hall. "I can't believe how lucky I am to have this instrument. This is easily one of the greatest instruments ever made," Yang, who is also making his debut at the Proms, said. "I feel a duty to take good care of the instrument and make a beautiful sound, so that people know that it's worth playing these instruments rather than having them in a vault in a museum." The Stretton Society, a network of philanthropists, patrons and sponsors that has loaned the violin to Yang, seeks to acquire rare and valuable instruments to lend to the world's leading musicians. Guarneri was one of the most important violin makers of all time, alongside Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari, said the society's co-founder Stephan Jansen. Whereas Stradivari made instruments for the Church and the nobility, Guarneri's violins were made for musicians, and they became renowned for their deep and sonorous tones, Jansen said. "Inmo is one of the finest musicians of his generation," Jansen said. "When he came to my house and I showed him the fiddle, it was clear from the very first second that this is a match," he said. "Because in the end, it's also about chemistry, you know?" Yang will perform Pablo de Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy", which he described as "a virtuoso piece for the violin". The broad palette of the violin adds the "strong, at times flirty character of the Carmen character," said Yang. The instrument's sound is also "quite unpredictable," he said, and "this kind of capricious nature really gives more liveliness to the piece". "Thinking that Paganini used this instrument is kind of spiritual, and I think people also want to hear Paganini's music played on his own violin," Yang added.
