Two Indonesian nationals with weed worth ₹21.55 cr arrested

MUMBAI: Two Indonesian nationals were arrested by the Oshiwara police on Thursday with 21.552 kg of hydroponic weed, valued at around ₹ 21.55 crore in the illicit market. (Shutterstock)
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a premises in Jogeshwari and seized the contraband. The accused arrested were identified as Budi Wiyono, 44, and Rakhmat Ardi Hidayat, 39.
Hydroponic weed, or hydro weed, is cannabis typically grown indoors using a hydroponic method in a fully controlled environment, said officials.
The police are trying to find where the accused had procured the weed from and where they planned to supply it.

Customs officers apprehended an Indian national at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Friday after he arrived from Bangkok and recovered 5.119 kg of hydroponic weed from his checked-in baggage. They seized the contraband that carried an estimated illicit market value of ₹ 5.119 crore.
The narcotics were seized as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger was immediately arrested.

Amid a major meltdown over the victory of Indian-origin Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primary of the New York mayoral election, Republican NYC mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa said Mamdani has no understanding about how the police department works, and that's why he promised to create a new Department of Community Safety separately from the police department. This would effectively neuter the police department if cops are forced to become social workers, Sliwa said to the New York Post, which reported apprehension over NYC becoming unsafe if Mamdani becomes the mayor. 'He has a weird notion of how policing is, as if it should be people like Mahatma Gandhi walking around, you know, functioning as a social worker. That does not work," Sliwa said. Zohran Mamdani's police reform positions Mamdani promised major NYPD reform, including redirecting funds from the police department towards housing, healthcare and mental health services. He said the NYPD's budget was bloated and harmful and community investment was more important over policing. Simran was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond-studded earrings. She went missing on Wednesday, but police said she did not appear to be in distress in her last video. According to police, Simran had no relatives living in the US, nor did she speak English. Police have also been unable to reach relatives in India. She has been described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds, with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. Simran has an international phone that only works on Wi-Fi. 'At this time, there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain her possible whereabouts," Lindenwold police said on Thursday.
