Police seize R1. 5 million worth of counterfeit Lego games in Durbanville

POLICE confiscated counterfeit Lego games to the value of R1.5 million from a premises in Durbanville this week.
Police spokesperson Frederick C. van Wyk said members of Western Cape Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, Essential Infrastructure Task Team members and DPCI executed a search warrant at a premises in Evolution Crescent, Darwin Park, Durbanville Industrial area on Wednesday morning.
'Representatives from Oversheds Sutherland who is a brand protector of Lego games and brand managers were also present during the operation,' Van Wyk said.
The premises was searched and counterfeit Lego games to the value of R1.5 million were confiscated.
'No arrests have been made.
'A case docket was opened at Durbanville SAPS for further investigation,' Van Wyk said.

Also on Wednesday, police arrested a suspect for the possession of police equipment, dealing in drugs as well as dealing in liquor.
Van Wyk said members attached to Operation Shanela II acted on information that firearms and drugs were being stored at a premises in Chukura Road, Sondela informal settlement Pumlani, Grassy Park.
'The members immediately operationalised the information and upon arrival at the identified address, found an imitation firearm, 52 small sachets of dagga, 11 medium sachets of dagga, one large plastic bag of dagga, different types of alcohol ciders and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities.
'A 42 year old male was arrested for possession of police equipment (a belt and pepper spray canister), dealing in drugs as well as dealing in liquor,' Van Wyk said.
He was scheduled to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates' court.

Ten police officers who were arrested on theft charges in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, have been granted R1 500 bail each. Missing cash never logged as evidence Mjonondwane said the seized goods were allegedly placed in several refuse bags to be submitted as exhibits. 'However, the complainant claims that upon his arrival at the police station, only one refuse bag had been registered,' she said. 'Furthermore, the cash was neither returned nor recorded in the SAP13 register – the official register used for documenting exhibits seized during criminal investigations.' Motorist rescues young girl from brutal assault on R555
A desperate appeal for police back-up was made on the Traffic Alert WhatsApp group at noon today by Wayne Julyan after a girl tried to escape from a vehicle on the R555 between Middelburg and eMalahleni. According to Julyan, the incident occurred shortly before 13:00 at the weighbridge just outside Middelburg. The teenager, estimated by Julyan to be between 15 and 16 years old, leapt from the car at the four-way stop, and the two men in the vehicle chased after her. By chance, a police constable drove past and was flagged down by Julyan to intervene. According to Julyan, the two men told the constable that the teenager was mentally challenged, and they were taking her back to eMalahleni, where her mother lives. One of the men claimed to be her father. During this time, the girl locked eyes with Julyan and begged him for help. According to Julyan, the constable accepted the men's story and sent them on their way. Julyan, however, was deeply unsettled and followed the vehicle. 'About 3km to 5km later, the teenager tried to jump out of the moving vehicle, and the man next to her started beating her with his fists. I could see from behind them how there was a constant tugging, pulling and beating all the way to eMalahleni.' Julyan reported the incident on the Traffic Alert group, and David Ross from Ross Towing asked him for a live location so that he could send help. Ross and two other tow truck drivers managed to stop the vehicle, and the SAPS were called. According to Julyan, the young lady was taken to the hospital and the men were apprehended for questioning. 'I don't know if the men have been charged, but the case now lies with the police.' When told that the young lady likely had him to thank for her life, his humble reply was that he was just in the right place at the right time.

The court heard submissions from four defence attorneys, with neither the state nor the investigating officer opposing bail. Six EMPD officers are based in Edenvale, while four SAPS members are stationed at Tsakane Police Station. All were arrested on 4 August at Edenvale Police Station on allegations of theft and corruption. The charges stem from a 4 June multi-agency law enforcement raid on a shop in Edenvale, during which the officers allegedly seized R35 000 in cash, cigarettes, and three packs of headache tablets without properly recording the items.
