Rekha shared a piece of advice with Shilpa Shirodkar's mother that resonated deeply.
Shilpa Shirodkar, who is all set to make a smashing comeback to the lights-camera-action world with the upcoming supernatural thriller Jatadhara, recently opened up about a heartwarming memory with legendary actress Rekha. The Bollywood stars shared screen space in the 1989 film Bhrashtachar, and their off-screen bond continues to be a treasured chapter for Shilpa. In an interview with an entertainment media portal, she reminisced about a moment that left a lasting impression on her.
During a candid chat with Zoom, Shilpa recalled an interaction during their early days in the industry. The actress revealed, 'I remember Rekha ji had done my eyebrows for the first time. And then she told me, 'Aapko bohot log bolte honge na you look like me.'" She smiled and further added, 'A lot of people used to say I looked like Rekha ji—some jhalak of her in me. I love her! She is just so loving and so lovely. It was so beautiful."
But it wasn't just a compliment that Shilpa took to heart. During a magazine shoot, Rekha also shared a piece of advice with Shilpa's mother that resonated deeply. 'She told my mother during the shoot, 'Aapko ek baat bolti hoon. Ye industry bohot addictive hai. Yahan pe chhodna bohot mushkil ho jata hai. Lekin har cheez samay pe honi chahiye. Bas itna yaad rakhna (Let me tell you one thing. This industry is very addictive. It becomes very difficult to leave it. But everything should happen at the right time. Just remember that)," Shilpa revealed.
She added, 'For my mother, those lines really left a mark because she always said kaam apni jagah hai lekin shaadi honi chahiye. Sab time to time hona chahiye (Work has its place, but marriage should happen. Everything should happen in time)."
Shilpa made her Bollywood debut in Ramesh Sippy's Bhrashtachar alongside Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha. She then went on to star in hits like Aankhen, Kishen Kanhaiya, Khuda Gawah, Hum and Bewafa Sanam.
In 2024, she made a brief but impactful return to the limelight by participating on Bigg Boss 18. Despite her strong presence and composed demeanour, Shilpa was unexpectedly evicted just before the grand finale. The season concluded on January 19 with Karan Veer Mehra taking home the trophy, while Vivian Dsena and Rajat Dalal emerged as the first and second runners-up.
Now, Shilpa is all set to step back into cinema with Jatadhara, directed by Venkat Kalyan. The supernatural fantasy thriller features a stellar cast including Sudheer Babu, Sonakshi Sinha, Rain Anjali and Divya Vij. The film is produced by Prerna Arora, Shivin Narang, Aruna Agarwal, Akshay Kejriwal and Kussum Arora. It is worth noting that Sonakshi will make her Telugu debut with the film. Shilpa Shirodkar's return to the big screen promises to bring the same grace and charisma to Indian cinema.

Rekhas Iconic Film Umrao Jaan To Be Re-Released In Theatres On THIS Date

Mumbai: Evergreen actress Rekha's iconic film 'Umrao Jaan' will be re-released in theatres. Directed by Muzaffar Ali, 'Umrao Jaan' has been restored in 4K resolution by NFDC- NFAI. The makers have now given a chance to audience to witness the magic of the timeless classic once again from June 27. To mark this momentous re-release, Muzaffar Ali has also planned to unveil a limited-edition coffee table book that offers a rare behind-the-scenes look into the making of Umrao Jaan, as per a press note. Featuring never-before-seen photographs, costume sketches, calligraphy, poetry, and personal anecdotes from the set, the book is both a collector's item and a deeply reflective tribute to the film's artistic vision. Recalling working in the cult film, Rekha said, "Umrao Jaan is not just a film I acted in -- she lives within me, breathes through me, even now. At the time, none of us could have imagined the timelessness of the film, the way it would gently etch itself into the soul of Indian cinema. To see it return to the big screen is like watching an old love letter being opened by a new generation. My heart is full." Muzaffar Ali also expressed his excitement about the re-release. He shared, "Umrao Jaan was not just a film--it was a journey into the soul of a lost culture, a forgotten tehzeeb. Through her pain, poetry, and grace, we tried to resurrect the elegance of an era where love and longing spoke in verse. I had actors who brought a lot of heft to their characters, and then there was Rekha, who lived Umrao Jaan and truly immortalised it. I am thrilled that the film is back on the big screen for a whole new generation to discover a time and culture that's very much a part of our being." Rekha won the National Award for her impeccable performance in the film as a courtesan-poetess in 19th-century Lucknow. Her graceful dance performance on 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai' is still admired and remembered by filmophiles. Screenings will begin across select PVR INOX cinemas in multiple cities from June 27th.
