Niagara Takes Flight, to open on August 29

The state-of-the-art flying theatre attraction will immerse visitors in a breathtaking flight over Niagara's most iconic sites and landmarks, offering views like never before.
NIAGARA FALLS, ON – Niagara's newest must-see attraction will open its doors to visitors on August 29. Niagara Takes Flight is Ontario's first flying theatre experience, featuring a massive, 180-degree domed screen that invites guests to soar above the region's most iconic landscapes and get closer than ever to Niagara Falls. Located inside Niagara Parks' flagship site, Table Rock Centre, at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, this immersive, sensory-rich ride uses the latest advancements in drone technology to take passengers on a thrilling 56-kilometre journey celebrating Niagara's geography, history and people.
A Dynamic New Visitor Experience at Niagara Parks with Views like Never Before
Visitors to Niagara Takes Flight will experience the exhilarating sights of Niagara from a perspective they simply could not enjoy any other way. The completed theatre will feature a massive 17-metre-wide domed screen and gondola-style seating, which suspends riders in the air, providing an unbelievable sensation that will make guests feel like they are flying through the air. Wind, mist and scent effects complement the dynamic motion of the ride to create a fully immersive experience.
Niagara's beauty and character is constantly changing with the seasons and the epic journey showcases it all, from the energy of a bustling summer day in Queen Victoria Park to a stunning winter evening, filled with colourful holiday lights. Beyond the remarkable sights they will take in, guests will leave with a deeper appreciation and understanding of Niagara's rich history and culture through engaging pre-show areas that authentically celebrate the stories of Niagara's formation, the region's first Indigenous inhabitants and its role in popular culture as a global tourism icon.
About the Project
In 2023, Niagara Parks completed a competitive procurement process, awarding development of the attraction to Brogent Technologies, the worldwide leader in flying theatre attractions, with recent projects in Vancouver, Chicago, New York and Las Vegas. Attraction industry legend and former Disney Imagineer Rick Rothschild, who was a principal creator of the very first flying theatre attraction, Disney's Soarin' Over California, is serving as creative director on the project.
Conceptual design and media production planning began in January 2024, with construction starting that September. Filming for Niagara Takes Flight took place between September 2024 and January 2025, at sites across the Niagara River corridor. Drones were used to capture never-before-seen perspectives of landmarks including the Niagara Parks Power Station, Niagara Whirlpool, Landscape of Nations Memorial, Old Fort Erie and, of course, the Horseshoe Falls. Hundreds of extras participated in the production, bringing the sites to life with authenticity and spirit.
The attraction's design and thematic elements have been supported by Canadian experiential design firm FORREC. The Toronto-based firm has established itself as an industry leader, working with top theme parks and attractions around the world, including recent conceptual design work on the award-winning redevelopment of the Niagara Parks Power Station. The rich thematic environments designed by FORREC for the immersive pre-show areas will be produced by Great Lakes Scenic Studios, a renowned, Burlington-based design and fabrication shop with a global portfolio. Under the attraction's general contractor, Merit Contractors Niagara, numerous Ontario-based companies and contractors have been involved with the on-site construction.
Next Steps
Construction and media production are in the final stages in preparation for the August 29 opening date. Additional details, including behind the scenes footage and exclusive sneak peaks, will be shared across Niagara Parks' social media channels leading up to the opening.
'Niagara Falls is a Canadian icon and a one-of-a-kind tourism attraction that draws millions of visitors from across the globe every year. This project represents a significant investment into the growth and success of Niagara's tourism industry, providing a new reason for guests of all ages to visit this iconic destination. From the spectacular pre-show areas to the film production itself, Niagara Takes Flight offers a new perspective and appreciation for this special place and the world-renowned environmental and cultural heritage features that Niagara Parks has been entrusted to protect since 1885.'
'This is the world's first flying theatre located within a renowned, globally known park, a symbol of how this unique experience can blend culture, geography, history, and technology to tell captivating stories in an entirely new way. It offers a deeper, more emotional connection to the stunning landscapes, bringing to life even more profound and touching tales of the region. We are truly honoured by Niagara Parks' trust, which has allowed us the opportunity to create a flying theatre for one of the world's most iconic destinations.' said Chih-Hung Ouyang, Chairman of Brogent.
'There's an incredible amount of history in this region. This film is more than just a showcase of the 56 kilometres of parkland; it aims to help understand the geology and the centuries-old human story of Niagara.' commented Rick Rothschild, Creative Director, Niagara Takes Flight.

Fairmont Pacific Rim unveils Suite X

Fairmont Pacific Rim debuts Suite X, an immersive art-meets-hospitality experience created with Douglas Coupland, celebrating Generation X and contemporary Canadian culture. VANCOUVER, BC – Fairmont Pacific Rim, has debuted Suite X – a one-of-a-kind concept designed in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Canadian visual artist and author, Douglas Coupland and the hotel's co-owner and developers, Westbank and Peterson. Inspired by Generation X, Coupland's novel that helped define and popularize an entire generation, this immersive experience pays tribute to the demographic that reimagined identity, technology, and art. Blurring the lines between art, design, and hospitality, Suite X is a vibrant extension of the newly renovated Fairmont Gold experience, offering guests an exclusive opportunity to step inside Coupland's world – a living gallery inspired by his fascination with contemporary culture, technology, and Canadian identity. Drawing on his signature pop-art aesthetic, the suite integrates bold visuals, custom-designed furniture, an in-suite bar, and unexpected design moments that invite introspection and spark conversation. 'I'm very much a product of the late 20th century, and this suite reflects my deep love for that era.'says Douglas Coupland. 'When I was growing up, Vancouver felt like nowhere – and then, post-Olympics, it suddenly became somewhere. I never expected to witness such a transformation, but I've had the privilege of being part of the city's full evolution.' Located on the Fairmont Gold floor and offering sweeping views of Vancouver's waterfront and mountains, Suite X features original works by Coupland and curated literature from the artist's own personal collection and the TASCHEN library. The experience evokes the feeling of sitting in Coupland's own living room – every detail has been thoughtfully considered by the artist himself. Suite X marks a bold evolution in Fairmont Pacific Rim's ongoing mission to celebrate local art and culture while offering guests next-level experiences rooted in creativity and design. It also expands on the hotel's reimagined Fairmont Gold offering, which now offers a nature-inspired sanctuary featuring elevated amenities and bespoke services tailored for the discerning traveler. 'Suite X represents the intersection of hospitality and artistry, a place where inspiration lives and guests can connect with a truly unique Vancouver story.' says Jens Moesker, Regional Vice President and General Manager, Fairmont Pacific Rim. WestJet Group completes integration of Sunwing Airlines

WestJet completes Sunwing Airlines integration, unifying operations, enhancing sun and leisure travel offerings, and expanding affordable options for Canadian travellers. WestJet officially completes its integration of Sunwing Airlines. This achievement represents two years (to the month) of dedicated work, strategic coordination and consultation, and a commitment to delivering greater value and connectivity for Canadian travellers. 'Completing two airline consolidations in just two years – the first with Swoop in 2024 and now Sunwing – was complex and required coordination across every aspect of our business, from operational, labour, and regulatory areas to experiential and cultural elements,' says Alexis von Hoensbroech, Chief Executive Officer of the WestJet Group. 'Achieving this milestone is proof of the incredible way our unified team works together and is a clear win for WestJet and our guests; it's also a story of transformation in Canadian aviation. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed!' WestJet acquired Sunwing in May 2023, the first step of many in bringing together two distinctly Canadian travel and tourism success stories, as part of WestJet's ambition to be the leader in providing affordable and accessible sun and leisure travel for Canadians. The vision to integrate Sunwing Airlines, realized on May 29, 2025, is part of the airline's strategy to deliver new and competitive travel options, and greater overall value for Canadians in sun and leisure market, while strengthening Canada's travel industry at a critical time. WestJet has now integrated all jet aircraft under a single Air Operator Certificate (AOC), including 16 former Swoop aircraft, another nine former Lynx Air aircraft which were secured after that airline went out of business, and now 18 more from Sunwing Airlines. WestJet's unified narrowbody operation will begin to realize efficiencies once it transforms these aircraft with cabin reconfigurations to the WestJet standard interior being completed through 2025. The result of this integration will be a consistent onboard experience for guests, with a more diverse range of onboard product offerings, including Premium, Economy, Extended Comfort, and UltraBasic seating available on all 150 Boeing 737 aircraft across the airline. WestJet's concept for expanding cabin optionality will serve the evolving needs of Canadian travellers who appreciate the ability to choose between a range of products and price points, without compromising on network. Additionally, guests flying on WestJet with reservations through the Sunwing Vacations brand, which continues to exist as Canada's post popular vacations provider, or its wholly owned tour operator businesses, can expect an improved end-to-end travel experience, as Canada's leading vacations provider continues to streamline processes and booking flows with guests in mind. 'The final Sunwing-operated flight this week is a time to reflect,' von Hoensbroech notes, recognizing that Sunwing has played an important and influential role in the Canadian leisure travel market. 'I know every Sunwing employee, past and present feels their contributions have mattered to advancing the experience of air travel. To all WestJetters and former Sunwing team members: thank you. This milestone is your achievement, and a proud moment for us all.'

New I LOVE NY Summer Tourism and Travel campaign launched

Comprehensive marketing effort includes new domestic and international advertising, an I LOVE NY mobile marketing tour, and continued industry relations efforts to promote visitation. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of I LOVE NY's new integrated summer tourism and travel campaign, highlighted by two new ads running through August across New York State, and in traditional drive markets including Canada. This includes advertising across broadcast, streaming and social platforms, and showcases some of the attractions and activities available. The summer campaign also includes I LOVE NY's largest mobile marketing tour ever, and additional complementary travel industry efforts to promote visitation to the State's 11 diverse vacation regions. 'Tourism is synonymous with New York State, thanks to all of our amazing attractions, from beaches to high peaks, from the Erie Canal to iconic museums and performing arts venues,' Governor Hochul said. 'This vital industry is facing challenging new political and economic headwinds. That's why supporting our tourism industry is more important than ever, and why we are getting out the message that no matter where you're from, you're always welcome in New York State.' I LOVE NY's multifaceted summer tourism campaign begins with two new ads featuring a new tagline – 'New York State: Everything You Love.' – reflecting the depth and breadth of the world-class attractions and memory-making activities available in communities throughout the state. Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, 'Tourism is crucial to New York State, supporting jobs and local economies, and we have so many incredible attractions ready to welcome visitors, from Niagara Falls to Montauk Point. This summer, New York wants to extend a special invitation to travelers from across America and all around the world: this is the perfect opportunity to plan a trip to celebrate history, explore our incredible landscapes, and enjoy all that our incredible state has to offer.' Empire State Development Division of Tourism Executive Director and Vice President Ross D. Levi said, 'In addition to iconic attractions across our state's eleven beautiful vacation regions, the next few months in New York hold special delights for travelers from near and far. Guests can look forward to special events commemorating the bicentennial of the Erie Canal, a summer of thoroughbred racing at Saratoga Race Course headlined by the Belmont Stakes and Travers races, the Ryder Cup tournament at Bethpage golf course on Long Island, and food and fun at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. The endless variety of activities shows that there truly is everything to love in New York State.' As part of this new campaign, I LOVE NY is extending a special invitation to international visitors – especially Canada, which represents New York's largest inbound international market. International visitation is vital to New York State's tourism economy. Historically, overseas visitors plan longer trips and produce more direct spending during their stays. New for this year's campaign is a direct-to-consumer international marketing element in the United Kingdom and Australia, which includes digital billboards, plus streaming and digital advertising. I LOVE NY also continues to work with members of the travel trade industry, like tour operators and travel agents in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia through trade shows, sales missions and familiarization tours. The summer campaign also includes I LOVE NY's largest-ever mobile marketing tour with more than 40 stops throughout the Northeast. The mobile tour will make stops at popular events such as music festivals, street fairs and sporting events where guests can interact with fun experiences to learn more about the state's attractions, win special I LOVE NY prizes, and take pictures with a large I LOVE NY logo sculpture. Under Governor Hochul, tourism is New York State's second largest industry, supporting one in 10 jobs. Recently, more than 306.3 million travelers visited New York State, generating $88 billion in direct spending and a record-high economic impact of $137 billion. Each year, tourism spending saves the average New York State household $1,400 in taxes.
