Hyderabad: In a move aimed at bolstering the momentum for 42% Backward Classes (BC) reservation and garnering support for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election and GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) elections, the Congress party has decided to install statues of former BC Welfare Minister M Mukesh Goud and former Union Minister P Shiv Shankar within the city.
The announcement was made by Congress leaders, including PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, on the death anniversary of Mukesh Goud. 'There remains a growing demand for the installation of statues of leaders representing BCs who served the city,' Mahesh Goud clarified to the media. 'We shall be installing the statues at a proper place after consulting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.'
Earlier, during an informal interaction with media persons, Ponnam Prabhakar also stated that a decision had been taken to install their statues in honour of their services to BCs and in recognition of their contributions to the party. 'Services of both leaders cannot be ignored, and in reflection of the recognition for their services, statues will be installed. A decision will be taken where and when these can be installed and will be finalised after discussing with the Chief Minister,' he said.

"Country Over Politics" Texas Democrats Hunker Down In Blue States, House Fails To Reach Quorum

Democratic legislators from Texas are still hunkered down in various blue states across the country, as they maintain their quorum break over a new congressional map proposed by state Republicans. Illinois governor JB Pritzker, who has welcomed several fleeing lawmakers, said that Texas Democrats are 'leading the way in choosing courage and country over politics and party'. President Donald Trump said that the Republican party is 'entitled' to the five House seats they could pick up if the Texas map is approved. He also criticized blue states for accepting Texas Democrats. 'You notice, they go to Illinois for safety, but that's all gerrymandered. California is gerrymandered. We should have many more seats in Congress in California. It's all gerrymandered,' he said. n18oc_world n18oc_crux

Bhopal, Indore to become Metro Regions Under 25-Yr Plan

Bhopal: The House on Tuesday passed the Metro Area Bill seeking to declare Bhopal and Indore, along with adjoining districts, as metropolitan areas on the same lines as the National Capital Region (NCR). Initiating the debate, urban development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the Metropolitan Area Bill was part of a long-term strategy to address development challenges likely to emerge over the next 25 years. Notably, the NCR comprises Delhi and its adjoining areas of UP, Haryana and Rajasthan. Referring to PM Narendra Modi's vision to make India a developed nation by the year 2047, Vijayvargiya said the vision can't be achieved if the states also do their bit to contribute in realising this dream. Even as Vijayvargiya was speaking on planning for next 25 years to ensure sustainable development of both the urban and rural areas proposed to be brought under the metropolitan areas, Congress MLA Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat said long-term planning was alright but the minister should first bring out the Master Plan for Bhopal and Indore. Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, however, said there was nothing wrong in thinking of the future even if the Master Plan of Bhopal and Indore had been delayed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Vijayvargiya, while referring to challenges likely to be confronted in the next 25 years, said roads, water, transport, industrial & technological development, employment and even farming will have to be planned in advance and the Metropolitan Area Bill was only aimed in this direction. "The manner in which population is rising, there can be a food crisis in the coming year if the farming techniques are not upgraded," he said. Vijayvargiya further said the govt was beginning with Bhopal and Indore and other major cities like Gwalior and Jabalpur will be included in the metropolitan area plan in course of time. He said that a high-level committee headed by the CM will be formed to execute the plan for next 25 years to ensure sustainable development of the area. Congress MLA and former urban development minister Jaivardhan Singh, who spoke after the minister, said the NCR has been a roaring success in terms of development of the areas particularly Noida and Gurgaon, where a lot of investment both domestic and foreign has taken place but there have been very apparent failures as well particularly on the front of environment. While implementing the metro area plan in MP, the Congress leader said the state govt should keep both the aspects in mind. He further said another thing very apparent in the NCR region is the fact that every inch of the land in the region has been occupied, and this was a major reason for turning the region as one of the most polluted in the world. Singh said the metro area project in MP has immense potential if the state government pays attention to four areas -- industrial & technological advancement, steps to turn the area into education hub, easy transport and environment protection. Singh also referred to the inability of the BJP govt to finalise the Bhopal Master Plan since 2005, and said when the Congress was in power for a brief period, the Bhopal Master Plan was finalised and brought out but then the govt fell and the master plan also fell through.

‘Cops in classrooms': Punjab LoP Bajwa slams AAP education model

Chandigarh: Punjab's opposition leader has accused the state govt of turning classrooms into "detention centres", after uniformed police allegedly occupied a Bathinda govt school for hours to prevent a teacher from joining a protest. Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress leader in the Punjab sssembly, called the incident a "new low" in chief minister Bhagwant Mann 's much-hyped education reforms. "Welcome to the Delhi Model — now with police in classrooms," Bajwa posted on X, in a scathing dig at the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) flagship 'Shiksha Kranti' (education revolution) campaign. Uniformed police personnel reportedly remained inside a pre-primary classroom for almost six hours on Aug 4. Bajwa alleged their presence was meant to intimidate a female teacher, suspected — wrongly, he said — of planning to participate in a protest. "So this is what (AAP's national convener) Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann meant by education revolution?" Bajwa asked, accusing the govt of harassing teachers, frightening children, and misusing police authority in schools. Further controversy erupted after Bathinda's senior superintendent of police (SSP) denied authorising the deployment. "No such order was given," the SSP stated reportedly. Bajwa then questioned who was responsible: "Then who ordered this circus? Bhagwant Mann's remote control in Delhi?" The state govt has not yet issued an official response.
