Vince Marrow's jump to Louisville football shows Kentucky moving in wrong direction
Vince Marrow's move from Kentucky to Louisville football is the surest sign that both programs are moving in opposite directions. The Cardinals are modernizing their operation by tapping Marrow in the newly created general manager position, preparing to make a push for a College Football Playoff bid. Advertisement The Wildcats were regressing from a 4-8 season with not much reason to be optimistic about a quick turnaround. And that was before the news broke this week that they were losing their most-visible, most-liked staffer who was instrumental in recruiting some of their best talent including Lynn Bowden, Wan'Dale Robinson and Benny Snell. Marrow had been with head coach Mark Stoops for his entire tenure at UK. He'd previously turned down many opportunities to leave Lexington, reportedly including overtures made from Bill Belichick as he hired his new staff at North Carolina. And he chose to leave now. For the rival school. During the June period in which both official and unofficial visits from recruits are taking place and coaches do a lot of evaluating of high school prospects. The timing is perfect for Marrow's arrival at U of L, as the House v. NCAA settlement was finalized and scholarship offers to Class of 2026 recruits who may be on an official visit can also include a financial component from the school for the first time. What does Dennis Gardeck offer the Jaguars?
The Jaguars went from desperately needing a rotational edge rusher for years to having a surplus after the team signed both Emmanuel Ogbah and Dennis Gardeck. Gardeck, 30, has spent his entire career serving as the Cardinals' rotational piece. Now, after seven years in Arizona, Gardeck looks to join a talented group in Jacksonville. In his seven years, Gardeck has tallied 17.0 career sacks, 23 TFLs, and 156 combined tackles. Advertisement While Gardeck may not be piling on the sack numbers, there's a reason Arizona kept him around for so long. Of his 17 sacks, 13 of them came in just two seasons, seven in 2020 and six in 2023. Gardeck totaled three last season as well in just seven games played. >>> STREAM ACTION SPORTS JAX 24/7 LIVE <<< That said, Gardeck only played seven games in 2024. He did, however, rack up 42 pressures in 2023. His 42 pressures led the team, despite not being listed as a full-time starter. Gardeck's 17.9% pass-rush win rate ranked 13th among 98 qualifying edge rushers. Dennis Gardeck is solid outside of rushing the passer as well. In spite of not seeing full-time snaps, Gardeck's 27 defensive stops tied Travon Walker in 2023, according to ProFootballFocus. Advertisement Liam Coen spoke highly of Gardeck after the signing. He got to see Gardeck's impact firsthand during his time with the Rams. 'Yeah, just a ton of respect for the player competing against him two times a year in L.A. since 2018,' Coen said. 'Every time we would go play the Arizona Cardinals, he was on the game-wrecker board.' Coen continued, 'We would always kind of introduce the game wreckers to the players. And he was on there, whether it was originally for special teams, and then also for rushing the passer and creating some disruption. It just gives us somebody a little bit different kind of style rusher, special teams demon.' Not only do the Jaguars finally have that much-needed third edge-rusher to spare Josh Hines-Allen and Walker, they have a fourth now as well. Gardeck might not rack up double-digit sacks, but he allows the Jaguars to keep their two starters fresh without feeling pressured to keep them on the field. Advertisement It's icing on the cake that Gardeck is a special-teams ace as well. It's clear Jaguars' GM James Gladstone is never satisfied with the status quo and is always on the lookout for how he can make this Jaguars roster better. Ex-NFL star says Trump roasted him over pregame pitch
Former NFL Pro Bowl offensive lineman Taylor Lewan revealed on the latest episode of his podcast with Will Compton that President Donald Trump roasted him over his pitch attempt. Lewan was widely mocked on social media after the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at Busch Stadium before a St. Louis Cardinals game last week went awry. Lewan and Compton said they briefly ran into Trump at UFC 316 in Newark, New Jersey, over the weekend. Compton said he shook hands with the president while the commander in chief walked past him and eventually roasted him. "I got, 'Oh, Mr. President, remember the podcast?'" Lewan said on "Bussin' with the Boys." "He goes, 'Remember that throw?' And kept going. D.J.T. looked at me, scoffed. He goes,' You call yourself an American? I thought you were a big, strong man? Looks like you're a little boy. Looks like you're a little boy who can't throw a ball.' "And then he went like this. Figuratively, my chest right here, 'You're not good enough.' And he walked away. Yeah, that's what my life is now, boys. OK? So, while you guys lay your heads on your pillows at night. Remember, at least you're not me, OK, because I'm in hell and there's only one thing I can do – pick up a ball and start throwing." Lewan said he knew disaster was around the corner before the ball left his hand. He sailed the ball closer to the first base on-deck circle than home plate, and several people were within striking distance. Luckily for Lewan, no one was injured, but a disgusted Lewan threw his hat to the field and punished himself with pushups. The pitch was immediately compared to 50 Cent, who threw out the first pitch before a New York Mets game years ago. "This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game. I need redemption," Lewan posted on X, noting the time Jones sacked quarterback Ryan Tannehill five times. "Not gonna dwell on comments about 'keeping my chin up' coming from someone without one. No excuses. We have to be better, and there will be redemption," he added later. Lewan was a Pro Bowler from 2016 to 2018. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
