'Remarkable' €50m transfer could be the unexpected highlight of Chelsea's summer

Yahoo3 days ago
The most explosive news of last weekend came from nowhere when it was revealed by top sources like Fabrizio Romano that Joao Felix was going to Saudi Arabia to join Al Nassr for a huge fee.
Until then there had been very little interest in Felix. His old team Benfica seemed to be the only ones interested, and they were ready to sit tight and low-ball us until the deadline. Then from nowhere, the Saudis came in with a huge bid.

They discussed this on the London is Blue podcast, trying to make sense of it all.
'He's going to Saudi Arabia. The immediate fee is going to be €30m with a heavy sell on clause and add ons… Chelsea feel they have a guaranteed fee of €50m minimum for Joao Felix,' Dan Dormer said.
But as they also pointed out, the fact that it ended well for us doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake to bring Felix back in the first place:
'It's remarkable business. It's a move that had to be done for Chelsea. He obviously was not going to play for the club again. It was a terrible transfer, and it has now kind of been remedied,' was co-presenter Nick Verlaney's take.

Felix affair feels like it's full of secrets
This whole Felix affair has something fishy about it – from the loan that finished a year before we signed him, to the relation to the Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid sale, to the bizarrely large fee we're getting for him from Al Nassr.
It feels like there's more going on than meets the eye – we just hope we get to find out more, one day.

Update On Tottenham Hotspur In Their Pursuit Of This Crystal Palace Ace: Should Frank Snap Him Up?

In a recent post on X, journalist Ben Jacobs offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of Crystal Palace ace Eberechi Eze. It has been stated that Spurs are willing to offer around £55m-£60m to acquire the services of the English talent this summer. Eze's Impressive Record In English Football Last Season Eze was a top performer for the Eagles in the previous campaign when he produced a string of productive performances for them in the Premier League. The English talent participated in 43 matches for the London outfit last season, netting 14 goals and grabbing 11 assists in all competitions. The 27-year-old managed to prove his worth in the final third by averaging 3.48 shots per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He kept 27% of his shots on target. Eze even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent's half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 74.2% in the top tier of English football (stats via His current contract at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2027, which could make it difficult for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer period. (Photo by) Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Snap Eze Up? Eze can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third. He can make a few driving runs with the ball as well and can contribute by scoring his fair share of goals for his team. The English sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a left-sided wide player if told to do so. He has already proven his worth in the Premier League and won't take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham. Eze would inject more quality and depth into Spurs boss Enzo Maresca's attack. He has what it takes to secure a regular first-team football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season and would serve as an ideal replacement for James Maddison, who suffered a serious injury in pre-season. At 27, Eze is about to enter his prime, which makes him a decent option for Tottenham to consider this summer. With all things considered, Frank would be wise to go all out to snap him up in this transfer period.
