Prem Kumar says Kollywood is suffering due to ‘paid reviewers' targeting week 1 collections of films; wants regulation
Prem Kumar on what's harming Kollywood
Prem was candid about how he thinks 'negative reviews' in the first week of a film's release are harming Kollywood. He said, 'Negative reviews have become a big problem in Tamil cinema. It's a huge problem, and it's getting worse day by day, week after week.' When asked to specify if he was talking about negative word-of-mouth or something else, he said, 'We used to have reviewers. The breed that we have now is not reviewers; their target is different. It's very uncivilised, in the language they use, the way they talk, and what they target.'
The director claimed that these reviewers supposedly target the first week of a film's revenue in the hope of getting money for the next film to give positive feedback. 'They have an agenda, and they target the first week's revenue. Once you do that, you know the producers will come to you for their next movie. The number of paid reviewers is more than 90% now. The honest reviewers don't have the talent or capacity to review a film. It is having a big impact on the box office because people decide to watch a movie or not based on this. I hope producers come up with a regulation for this,' said Prem.

The film was a massive success, even gaining fame in other languages. He also directed the 2020 Telugu remake of the film titled Jaanu, with Sharwanand and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles. Coolie worldwide box office collection: Rajinikanth's Coolie is going from strength to strength at the box office. The action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj opened to record-breaking numbers and has kept the momentum going through its extended opening weekend, despite some lukewarm reviews. Now, Coolie has done the unthinkable by becoming the number one movie at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. Coolie worldwide box office collection: Rajinikanth's film has topped the global box office this weekend. (Photo by Raju Shinde/HT Photo)(Raju Shinde) Coolie worldwide box office report Coolie earned ₹194.25 crore net ( ₹233 crore gross) in its four-day extended opening weekend in India. It is the fastest Tamil film to ₹100 crore, and will likely become the fastest to ₹200 crore on Monday. But Coolie's overseas earnings are just as impressive. The film set new benchmarks for Tamil films with record-breaking openings in North America, the UK, and Australia. By Sunday, the film has earned over $18 million ( ₹160 crore) in the international market. Its total worldwide haul stands at ₹393 crore ($45 million) after four days. How Coolie became the #1 film in the world Coolie's $45 million haul is impressive for any Indian film in its first four days. But the end of the Hollywood summer and the absence of a big tentpole film in the US this weekend have meant that it is enough to top the charts globally as well. Coolie managed to beat the horror film, Weapons, which earned an estimated $44 million over the last four days (Thursday-Sunday). The Zach Cregger film earned $29 million in the US, according to Box Office Mojo, in addition to $15 million overseas. In the third spot during this extended weekend is Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2, which has earned an estimated $30 million in its first four days. The YRF Spy Universe is level with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan's Freakier Friday, which brought home the same amount. The only new Hollywood release this weekend - Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk - opened at just $14 million worldwide, far behind Coolie. All about Coolie Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie stars Rajinikanth as the titular retired coolie, who ends up embroiled in a gangster's world (Simon, played by Nagarjuna) after the death of his friend. The film also stars Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj, with a cameo from Aamir Khan.

Shoot at Site: An award-winning teacher, a thiruvizha and an enquiry!
JSK Satish Kumar, who produced the first film and will be playing the lead and co-writing the screenplay of this one, says, 'Kuttram Kadithal 2 is not a sequel. It's based on a school teacher's life, and there was no better title than this one." The filming of Kuttram Kadithal 2 was progressing in the misty locales of Kodaikanal when we met the team for an exclusive set visit. After wrapping up the shoot at 3am in the morning, the crew resumed filming after just a five-hour break in between. And yet, the entire team was in high spirits as they spoke about the film and their involvement in it. There was no better title for the film: JSK Satish Kumar JSK Satish Kumar, who produced the first film and will be playing the lead and co-writing the screenplay of this one, says, ' Kuttram Kadithal 2 is not a sequel. It's based on a school teacher's life, and there was no better title than this one. Initially, we thought of titling the film as Vaathi , but since a film by that name has already come out, we went with this title. My character, Nallasivam, is about to retire and is honoured with the National Teachers' Award. The village, Pallangi, celebrates his win like a thiruvizha , and what happens then will be what the film is about.' None of the actors in the film just come and go: SK Jeeva SK Jeeva, who has directed Pudhumai Pithan (1998) and Lovely (2001) and was a writer of Azhagiya Tamizh Magan and Aneethi , will be helming this film. Elaborating on what's being shot, he says, 'We are filming a scene where Nallasivam, who is respected by the whole village, is called for a police enquiry. We are also planning to shoot in Kodaikanal, Kerala and Nagercoil.' I felt this would be apt for my Tamil re-entry: Keerthi Chawla For Keerthi Chawla, Kuttram Kadithal 2 is extra special, as she is making her re-entry in Tamil after more than a decade. She says, 'I play Manimekalai, a homely character. Deepak plays my husband. I waited a while to do a film in Tamil, and felt this would be apt for my re-entry in Tamil.' My character is a family-oriented guy: Deepak Dinkar Deepak Dinkar refers to his character as the ' mappillai of the house' and adds, 'Viji akka and I were doing another film together, and while we were interacting, she mentioned this film, and that's how I came on board. My character owns a bakery and is a family-oriented guy. The film has a good message about life's values.' I feel a sense of satisfaction acting in this film: Pandiarajan Actor-director Pandiarajan plays the protagonist's friend Madhavan. 'I initially wondered if I was right for this role, but as each day passes by, I'm being moulded into the character. Every day, after acting in the film, when I sleep at night, I feel a sense of satisfaction and happiness. Usually, I don't play risky characters. But this film has a distinctive storyline. JSK is a family friend, and we play friends in the film as well,' he says. Everybody on set is motivating: Lovelyn 'I play JSK sir and mom's second daughter in the film, and I'm paired opposite Manas,' shares Lovelyn Chandrasekhar. 'I play a bold character. I play an innocent and subtle character: Viji Viji Chandrasekhar finds her role in Kuttram Kadithal 2 to be light in comparison to her other roles. 'My character is subtle and innocent. Her family is her world. Usually, I play ferocious roles, but this role is as cool as Kodaikanal,' she says. Interestingly, her real-life daughter, Lovelyn, plays her daughter in the film. Box office: Coolie (Hindi) collects Rs 18.50 crore in 4 days; Rajinikanth & Lokesh Kanagaraj film scores average results
The Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj film, Coolie: The Powerhouse, has scored average results in its opening weekend in Hindi, faring better than the pre-release expectations. The actioner has collected Rs 18.50 crore over its four day run, and the film stayed consistent around the Rs 4.00 crore mark though the weekend. Coolie opened at Rs 4.25 crore on Thursday, followed by a spike to Rs 6.00 crore on Friday, before settling in at Rs 4.00 crore and Rs 4.25 crore on Saturday and Sunday. The national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis - have collected Rs 8.30 crore over the four day period, contributing 47 percent to the total business. The numbers are decent in Hindi because Coolie had no expectations, however, the trend through four-day period is not encouraging indicating a not-so-strong hold in business on Monday. Coolie will be looking at a lifetime total in the range of Rs 35 crore to Rs 40 crore, as it has one more week of clean run before facing competition from Param Sundari. The film will end up being the second highest grossing Tamil film dubbed in Hindi after 2.0, surpassing films like Robot, Kabali, Vikram, and Leo among others. Having said that, with a start of Rs 4.25 crore, the Rajinikanth starrer could have hit a bigger number in Hindi, but the mixed reports did no good to the theatrical prospects. Here's a look at day wise collections of Coolie (Hindi) Thursday: Rs 4.25 crore Friday: Rs 6.00 crore Saturday: Rs 4.00 crore Sunday: Rs 4.25 crore Total: Rs 18.50 crore Coolie faced competition from War 2 in Hindi markets, and North India is the only area where the Rajinikanth starrer was trailing behind the YRF Spy Universe film, as it dominated the former in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana.
