Interior
What is it like on the inside?
Welcome to the Nineties: ovals are back! Just look at that great big ovoid dashboard, like a squashed Mini fascia. Amid it lives the usual Toyota infotainment system, looking like a great big oblong peg in a round hole.
Like the old Ford Ka, the Aygo X makes a virtue of exposed metal on its doors. So long as you've gone for one of the cheerier colour options, it's a vibrant place to sit.

If you've sat up front in a current-gen Yaris, there's plenty of bits you'll recognise inside the Aygo X. The steering wheel, infotainment and climate control panel (yep, it has a proper one) all migrate from the larger, hybrid-only hatch and are all sturdy, easy-to-use bits of kit. What about tech?
The X's driver display is very basic, with a small screen nestled inside a larger speedometer with a rev counter and fuel gauge either side. It might not be a high-tech setup but it's clear enough.
There are three different grades of Aygo X: Pure, Edge, and Exclusive. The first two get a 9.0-inch touchscreen, while the latter gets a 10.5-inch touchscreen, which kinda looks out of place in a car this small. All get Toyota's latest Touch 3 operating system (looks clean, works well and includes shortcut buttons down the left-hand side), plus wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.
All too sit inside the aforementioned oval, while underneath sits the dedicated physical climate control unit. We approve.

There's also a gorgeous and pearly JBL Edition with a very tasty sound system – definitely one to keep in mind, if only to cover up the incessant engine noise.
Is it practical?
There's plenty of space in the front, though passengers might grumble at the lack of height adjustment in their seat. There's plenty of shoulder space if you're two-up. You wouldn't want to be using the rear seats regularly, though: legroom isn't great and although it's lovely, the optional canvas roof does eat into headroom in the back.
The rear doors are also a lot bigger than their opening too: it's like heaving open a church door to find an aperture the size of an advent calendar.
The boot is reasonable for a car this size at 231 litres – smaller than the Fiat 500 yet larger than the Hyundai i10. Anything else?
The fabric rollback roof (an £900 extra) doesn't do anything for refinement. There's really two trains of thought here: one, it adds to the fun factor, but two, until cities are dominated by EVs and trees, why would you want to breathe in everyone else's fumes? Only you know where you stand.

From horseless cart to va va voom: France's love affair with the Renault

On Christmas Eve 1898, residents of the Rue Lepic in Montmartre marvelled as a 21-year-old inventor chugged up the steep hill on a wheezing horseless carriage. That exploit by Louis Renault, motoring pioneer and racing driver, is due to be celebrated with a recreation of the street in a lavish new museum the French automotive group is building on the bank of the Seine, 25 miles west of Paris. The vast 'spectacular exhibition space' on the site of its historic factory at Flins, designed by the Polish-born French architect Jacob Celnikier, will be the first time the 127-year-old car maker has gathered its heritage of historic vehicles and artworks in one place. This company will build you a cheap, lightweight, two-seater turnkey supercar

First Look What would *you* build using Dash's two-seat monocoque? Skip 7 photos in the image carousel and continue reading A British engineering company with links to Formula One has announced a new division 'dedicated to end-to-end full vehicle programmes'. Which, in HumanSpeak, means: some very clever people will build you an entire supercar. Not for free, of course, but not for an exorbitant amount, either. It's the work of newly-formed Dash Bespoke – part of Dash – and isn't exorbitant because each supercar, or hypercar, or racing car, will be spun off the company's TR01 carbon fibre monocoque. Advertisement - Page continues below That's the thing we first told you about back in 2023. It's a two-seater configuration that's stiff, cheap, weighs just 48kg and can house anything from V8 powerhouses to a load of batteries. Now, Dash Bespoke's new job is to build the rest of the car around this monocoque. It's done just that for a client, and we'll see DB's first ever full car at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. You might like It's called 'SlipStream' (yes, bit on the nose but we'll take it), and while we don't know what it'll look like on top, these pics show what it'll look like underneath. So it's a mid-engined supercar wearing a V8 from New Zealand's Hartley (who did the V12 for the Nilu27), with bespoke carbon fibre subframes, light alloy suspension components, and Nitron dampers, to name just four things. You of course, can spec anything you want within the confines of this stiff, lightweight TR01 chassis, making it easier to get your limited edition, two-seater super-hyper-toy off the ground. Dash boss Tim Robathan acknowledged the pitfalls associated with trying to engineer and manufacture something like this from scratch. Advertisement - Page continues below 'For many brands and visionaries, these obstacles can halt progress and project viability,' he said. 'That is why we have established Dash Bespoke. 'Leveraging our proven TR01 monocoque and extensive in-house engineering expertise, we can manage projects from end to end,' he added. We'll show you the finished car as soon as it's ready, so in the meantime, why not configure your ideal super-hyper-toy using the TR01 chassis, below. Starter for ten: nat-asp mid-mounted V6, rear-wheel-drive, six-speed manual, passive dampers, Alfa SZ-alike body. Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. Mercedes Concept AMG GT XX Gallery: The 1,341-HP Coupe In Pictures

Watch Out, Porsche Taycan Mercedes-AMG has pulled out all the stops for this new electric four-door coupe concept, giving us a look at a potent production model set for arrival in 2026. Not only does the Concept AMG GT XX look special, but this ultra-powerful EV will be able to hit 223 mph, a staggering achievement for an EV, let alone one that can carry passengers in the back. Having already pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved in a hybrid with the AMG ONE, the GT XX looks to do the same for EVs. 1 Source: Mercedes-Benz Finished in Sunset Beam Orange, the new Concept AMG GT XX is a low-slung four-door electric coupe. Its innovations are planned to be used on future series-production models using the AMG Electric Architecture ( ). 2 Source: Mercedes-Benz Not many aspects of this concept are shared with other AMG models, but there is a familiar AMG grille with vertical struts. In this case, is has a more oval and concave shape than we're used to seeing. 3 Source: Mercedes-Benz Six circular taillights are completely unique relative to other AMGs. We can also see recessed door handles, a rear-integrated airbrake, and a prominent AMG logo between the taillight clusters. 4 Source: Mercedes-Benz Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. However, this could change for the production model. 5 Source: Mercedes-Benz A low rear end and special underbody aerodynamic features have eliminated the need for a large rear spoiler, while allowing the car to retain its slippery shape. 6 M Wide, high-performance tires are fitted and wrapped around 21-inch active aero wheels that optimize cooling of the brakes. On the hood, there are two-part air outlets with dual fins. This design can dissipate warm air from the front section of the car. 7 Source: Mercedes-Benz Three axial flux electric motors power the GT XX, and they have a combined peak output of 1,341 horsepower. AMG says the power density of such motors are about three times that of normal ones, and they're also lighter. No acceleration times were quoted, but it should be brutally quick with standard 4Matic+ variable AWD, and the top speed is 223 mph. Oh, and don't worry – this electric AMG will sound good, too. 8 Source: Mercedes-Benz The driver's cockpit is clearly race-car inspired, starting with the rectangular-shaped steering wheel that is similar to the wheel in the AMG ONE hypercar. 9 Source: Mercedes-Benz While there are dual screens as in most modern Mercs, the GT XX's screens are more obviously angled in the direction of the driver. The body structure has been left exposed in sections like the center console, creating a dramatic and illuminated division between the driver and front passenger. 10 Source: Mercedes-Benz A biotechnology-based alternative to leather has been used for the seats, which is made using tires from AMG GT3 racing cars. 11 Source: Mercedes-Benz A 10.25-inch screen sits directly ahead of the driver; to the right of this is a 14-inch touchscreen. 12 Source: Mercedes-Benz Orange ambient lighting is everywhere, including in these slats on the dashboard ahead of the front passenger. 13 Source: Mercedes-Benz The hazard button on the center console bridge is about the only element of the interior that looks conventional. Everything else is dripping with innovation. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile
