Belgian prosecutors investigate death of woman at Tomorrowland's opening night
Prosecutors in Antwerp said they were looking to establish what caused the death of the 35-year-old, one of tens of thousands of festival-goers who attended the event's opening night on Friday.
The woman became unwell at the festival held in Boom, near Antwerp, and was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, a spokeswoman for the Antwerp prosecutor's office told AFP.
Featuring scores of DJs including David Guetta, Lost Frequencies and Charlotte de Witte, Tomorrowland draws electronic music enthusiasts from all over the world.
Around 400,000 people are expected to attend over two weekends.
The event was thrown into doubt this week after a fire destroyed its main stage. But organisers speedily put in place an 'alternative setup', and the festival went ahead as planned. — AFP

MSA Festival of Media 2025 aims to bridge progress, craft connections
THE Malaysian media industry is set to gather at the MSA Festival of Media 2025, taking place on Aug 14 at the Sheraton Hotel, Petaling Jaya. Organised by the Media Specialists Association (MSA), this year's festival carries the theme 'Bridging Progress', a reflection of the industry's journey through resilience, reinvention and meaningful connection in a rapidly shifting landscape. Designed as a high-impact, one-day experience, the festival gathers professionals across media, marketing, data, and creative to explore how people, platforms, and purpose intersect to shape what's next in the industry. From solo keynotes to panels, fireside chats to live debates, the day is built around one powerful idea: 'Crafting Connections – The Art and Science of Meaningful Engagement.' It is about how bold ideas, rooted in human truth and powered by tech, grow into cultural movements that shift industries and reframe the rules of modern media. The programme will kick off with an inspiring keynote by Singapore's Yong Siew Toh Conservatory principal conductor Jason Lai. In his 'Connected in Rhythm: Lessons from the Orchestra' keynote, Lai will draw powerful parallels between orchestras and organisations, showing how alignment, listening, and shared intent drive both musical and business brilliance. Industry leaders will also take the stage for solo sessions exploring storytelling, tech, psychology and human behaviour, revealing what it takes to build brand relevance in a noisy world. A standout this year comes from Tier 1 sponsor HEPMIL Malaysia, who will lead a 90-minute masterclass titled 'Made-In-Culture: Goodbye Virality, Hello Viscosity.' This provocative session challenges the obsession with quick wins and viral hits, arguing instead for cultural "stickiness", campaigns that linger, grow, and matter. The day ends with a no-holds-barred panel, 'The Culture Shift – What Scares Us Most?' featuring creators, marketers, and cultural provocateurs unpacking the fears, forces, and frontiers shaping modern culture. A CALL TO BUILD The festival's organising chairperson Jo Yau said: "This year's Festival invites us to look beyond recognition. It's about movement of people, of ideas, of innovation. "We want every attendee to leave feeling connected, recharged, and ready to help build what's next." All festival ticket holders will receive complimentary access to the MSA Awards Dinner on Aug 15, celebrating the industry's best campaigns, teams and talents. The MSA Festival of Media 2025 is made possible through the support of sponsors: HEPMIL Malaysia (Tier 1), with additional support from Blis, Google, Hivestack, Tyroo, Nexxen, Ogury and Social Video Lab, united in a shared belief in progress through partnership. Tickets are now available at RM1,300 (HRDC-claimable) and RM1,000 (non-HRDC claimable).

Chicago P.D." Star LaRoyce Hawkins is Grand Marshal of the 96th Bud Billiken® Parade, Hosted by Chicago Defender Charities
The Bud Billiken® Parade, the largest African American parade in the United States. CHICAGO, July 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — On Saturday, August 9, 2025 the 96th Annual Bud Billiken® Parade will take place on Chicago's South Side and will be a star-studded celebration of youth, education, and excellence – headlined by a beloved hometown hero. Chicago P.D. star and Harvey, IL native, LaRoyce Hawkins, will serve as Grand Marshal for this year's parade and festival. This year's theme, 'Road to 100', highlights that we are a few years away from our 100th anniversary. Since 1929, The Bud Billiken® Parade continues to uplift, empower, and inspire, marking the back-to-school season with pride and purpose. 'Imagine being a 9-year-old Black boy from Harvey, Illinois. The first time I heard the words 'Bud Billikin,' I remember being amused by the whimsical alliteration. Growing up just outside of Chicago, my family didn't always have easy access to the parade – Chicago often felt like a field trip. Eventually, watching the Bud Billikin Parade's live broadcast became a cherished tradition in our home. Actually attending the parade felt like a distant possibility, so to now be named Grand Marshal is both surreal and humbling. What makes this moment even more meaningful is that I get to share it with my son. That alone makes this the most unforgettable moment of the summer. With deep gratitude and pride.' –LaRoyce Hawkins 'LaRoyce Hawkins is an outstanding role model and a powerful example for our city's youth,' says Myiti Sengstacke-Rice, President/CEO of the Chicago Defender Charities and Chair of the Bud Billiken® Parade. 'His passion, commitment to service, and love for Chicago make him the perfect choice to lead this year's parade. For 96 years, the Bud Billiken® Parade has united generations -it's a movement, a cultural touchstone, and a launching pad for the future.' Joining LaRoyce Hawkins will be a dynamic lineup of celebrities, civic leaders, and changemakers. Honorary Grand Marshals include community influencers, educators, business leaders, and youth mentors who embody the values of legacy and leadership. The Parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m. at 41st Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, traveling south through Washington Park and ending at Garfield Boulevard (55th Street) and Ellsworth Drive. Following the parade, attendees will enjoy the 'It Takes A Village' Bud Billiken® Festival, a full-day event featuring entertainment, local vendors, free school supplies, haircuts, health screenings, and family-friendly activities. French DJ Martin Solveig hangs up his decks after legendary career, announces retirement on stage
PARIS, July 21 — French DJ Martin Solveig, who hit worldwide success with smashes including All Stars and Hello, has hung up his decks, announcing his retirement onstage at a concert watched by 70,000 people. 'It's a special moment. All my life, each time I came onstage I told myself: 'Play like it's your last concert'. Just until that moment arrives,' the artist told the crowd, which braved pounding rain at the Vieilles Charrues festival in Carhaix, western France, to watch his final gig on Saturday, according to Le Telegramme daily. From the early 2000s, Solveig, together with fellow Gallic luminaries David Guetta and Bob Sinclar, brought the 'French touch' sound to the world's dancefloors, while he also produced songs for stars including Madonna. Now aged 48, Solveig — real name Martin Laurent Picande — released five albums throughout his more than two-decade-long career, and played at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris along with 23 other DJs. Jerome Trehorel, the director of the festival where Solveig announced his retirement, told AFP that 'it was a surprise when he told us several weeks ago that the Vieilles Charrues would be his only concert date this year, and that it would be his last'. 'It's an immense honour,' he added. — AFP
