ULFA (Independent) had claimed that at least three senior soldiers were killed, and 19 others injured after the Indian Army launched a massive operation along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The Army, however, claimed that it had not carried out any such operation. Defence sources said, "no inputs with the Indian Army on such operation."
ULFA (Independent), also known as the anti-talk faction of ULFA, in a statement stated, "The Indian Army had launched drone attacks between Longwa in Indo -Myanmar border near Nagaland and Pangsau Pass along the international border near Arunachal Pradesh. The attack took place between 2 am to 4 am on Sunday. The outfit claimed that there was another attack later in the day on Sunday. The mobile camps of the banned outfit and RPF/PLA camps were affected severely as the Indian forces have dropped about 150 bombs in the entire area using drones made in Israel and France".
Sources in the Intelligence agencies said, "Myanmar was the prime base of ULFA ever since 2012 when the Bangladesh government flushed out rebels. Even their bases in Bhutan were dismantled by India's security forces, along with the Bhutanese army, in 2003. However, the region where the
Northeastern rebels
are based in Myanmar is in turmoil owing to internal feud making it difficult for the rebels to stay there."
Sources said, "ULFA chief Paresh Baruah is warming up to Bangladesh. Baruah is shuttling between the jungles of Yunnan province in China and Myanmar. Last year, the Bangladesh High Court reduced the death sentence of Paresh Baruah to life imprisonment in the 2004 Chattogram arms smuggling case."
Sources in the Assam police said: "There have been feelers following the strike on bases. ULFA might carry out retaliatory strike or sabotage activities in the run-up to
Independence Day celebrations
in Assam."

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that the government could do 'nothing much' in the case of an Indian nurse facing execution on July 16 for murder in Yemen. Attorney General R Venkataramani informed a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta that the government was doing 'utmost possible'. 'Having regard to the sensitivity and status of Yemen as a place, there is nothing much the Government of India can do,' he said. He continued, 'There is a point up to which the Government of India can go and we have reached that point.' Venkataramani said the government recently wrote to the public prosecutor of the area concerned to find out if the execution could be suspended for the time being. 'The Government of India is trying its best,' Venkataramani said, 'and has also engaged with some sheikhs who are very influential people there.' He said the government was keen to save one of its citizens. The apex court was hearing a plea seeking a direction to the Centre to use diplomatic channels to save Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, 38, facing execution in Yemen. Priya, a nurse from Palakkad district of Kerala, was convicted of murdering her Yemeni business partner in 2017. She was sentenced to death in 2020, and her final appeal was rejected in 2023.

Last Updated: The recent seizure of 54,000 kg of suspected buffalo meat from two containers intercepted near Pune on March 24, was highlighted via a calling attention motion Replying to a calling attention motion raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, the state government assured the House that they are implementing strict measures to curb the illegal smuggling, transport, and export of beef and cattle meat. Minister of State for Home (Rural) Pankaj Bhoyar was responding to a notice tabled under Rule 107 by members Shrikant Bharatiya and others. They highlighted the recent seizure of 54,000 kg of suspected buffalo meat from two containers intercepted near Pune on March 24. The containers, originating from Hyderabad's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, were bound for export through Mumbai's port facilities without valid documents. Bhoyar informed the House that upon receiving intelligence, the Lonikand Rural Police Station executed the seizure and charged the accused under multiple sections of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (amended 1995) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The seized samples were sent for scientific examination to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Pune, where tests confirmed that the cargo contained boneless buffalo meat prepared for export. The minister stated that the involved company and handlers attempted to evade mandatory quarantine and export clearances. He added that the company had falsified documents to pass off the shipment as 'Indian halal frozen boneless buffalo offals" for export, violating multiple state and central laws. Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Minister Bhoyar revealed that from January to June 2025 alone, 1,248 cases related to illegal cattle slaughter and unauthorized transport have been registered across Maharashtra, resulting in the seizure of over 1,708 tonnes of illegal meat. He stressed that the government has directed the animal husbandry department, police, and regional transport authorities to intensify inspections, cancel transport permits of repeat offenders, and strictly enforce provisions under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act and the Transport of Animals Rules. Eggs hurled at Toronto rath yatra, India lodges protest BHUBANESWAR: Centre on Monday lodged a strong protest with the Canadian government regarding alleged disrespect to Lord Jagannath's rath yatra in Toronto. The ministry of external affairs (MEA) intervened following reports that eggs were thrown at a chariot during the rath yatra in Toronto on Sunday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have seen reports regarding disruption created by mischievous elements during the rath yatra procession in Toronto. Such despicable acts are regrettable and are against the spirit of the festival, which seeks to promote unity, inclusivity, and social harmony." He added, "We have strongly taken up the matter with Canadian authorities to hold the perpetrators of the act accountable. We hope the Canadian government will take necessary action to protect the religious rights of people." The response followed BJD president and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik's request to the MEA to address the sensitive issue. "Such acts deeply offend Lord Jagannatha's devotees worldwide and cause great distress to the people of Odisha, where this festival holds immense emotional and cultural importance. If these reports are true, the Odisha govt should take the issue seriously and press the ministry of external affairs to lodge a strong protest with Canadian authorities," Patnaik had earlier posted on X. Patnaik raised the issue after a Toronto-based Indian woman shared a video on a social media platform which showed broken eggs on the pavement.
