Mohammed Hijab, a YouTuber with 1.3 million followers, whose real name is Mohammed Hegab, claimed that an article in the Spectator about the riots, titled 'Leicester and the downside with diversity' and published in Sept 2022, defamed him.
The author, Murray, wrote Hijab was a 'a street agitator' who 'cropped up in Leicester to whip up his followers'. He wrote: 'Among other things he (Hijab) told them that Hindus are ridiculous people, not least because of their belief in reincarnation.'
Hijab sued for defamation claiming he lost thousands of pounds in fees as a result of the article.
But in a judgment handed down on Tuesday in the high court, Justice Johnson found that what Murray wrote about Hijab is 'substantially true, and it is not materially inaccurate'.
Hijab's claim was that his comments were not about Hindus but 'the Hindutva' in Leicester which, Hijab, claimed 'promotes conspiracy theories, including that Muslim men conspire to convert Hindu women to Islam'.
Johnson wrote: 'When asked to name anyone in the world who subscribed to the Hindutva ideology but who was not Hindu [Hijab] was able to give only one name: Benjamin Netanyahu.'
He also said Hijab 'lied on significant issues, with the consequence that his evidence, overall, is worthless'.
Johnson pointed out a video of Hijab's speech in Leicester shows him, 'far more vividly than is conveyed by the words of the article, directly whipping up a large group of masked men and ridiculing Hinduism'.

Rs 18,500 In Traffic Fines? Scooter Ridden By Karnataka Deputy CM In Viral Video Sparks Helmet And Fine Debate
Last Updated: A casual ride during an inspection turned controversial after it was revealed that the scooter used had 34 traffic violations and unpaid fines totalling Rs 18,500. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar recently took a ride on a gearless scooter during an inspection of the newly built loop at the Hebbal flyover in Bengaluru. He first rode the scooter alone and later with a pillion rider, catching the attention of locals and the media alike. However, what seemed like a casual ride soon turned controversial. Whose Scooter Was It? The scooter, with the registration number KA 04 JZ 2087, is registered under the name Babjan, a resident of RT Nagar, as per TOI. After a check by city traffic police, it was revealed that the scooter had 34 pending traffic violations amounting to Rs 18,500 in fines. The offences included riding without a helmet, talking on the phone while riding, signal jumping, and improper parking. What Did the Police Say? Police summoned the vehicle owner to the Hebbal traffic police station. On Wednesday, he paid Rs 1,000 on the spot and promised to clear the remaining Rs 17,500 soon, according to officials. As for Shivakumar, he was seen wearing a half-helmet, which, as per traffic rules, is not legally allowed. However, the police clarified that while such helmets are discouraged, riders are not currently being fined for them. Here's How the Social Media Reacted? Netizens quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the issue. Some questioned whether the Deputy CM even holds a valid driving licence. Others criticised the use of illegal half-helmets. The JD(S) party also shared the video online, mocking the situation and pointing out the unpaid fines. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. "Not Diplomacy But Bullying By Buffoon-in-Chief": A Owaisi On Trump Tariff
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday slammed US President Donald Trump for imposing an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, calling it "bullying by the buffoon-in-chief." Mr Owaisi also said the tariff, which raises the total to 50 per cent, will harm Indian exporters, small businesses and jobs. In a post on X, Asaduddin Owaisi wrote, "Trump just slapped another 25% tariff on India, taking it to 50%, because we bought oil from Russia. This isn't diplomacy, it's bullying by the buffoon-in-chief who clearly doesn't understand how global trade works." He also questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders remain silent on the issue. Mr Owaisi accused the government of giving up India's strategic independence to benefit wealthy friends. "These tariffs will hurt Indian exporters, MSMEs, and manufacturers. It'll disrupt supply chains, deter FDI, and hit jobs hard. But why will @narendramodicare? Where are those BJP muscle-flexers now? Last time I'd asked if Modi ji would show his 56-inch chest when Trump imposed 56% tariffs. Trump stopped at 50%. Maybe he's scared of our non-biological PM? Was selling out our strategic autonomy worth filling your friends' billionaire coffers?" the post reads. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also criticised the Union Government for its unclear foreign policy. He pointed out that while India was told to boycott China, the government still allowed official visits and trade. In a post on X, Mr Thackeray wrote, "They told us Hindus in Bangladesh are under attack, and the@BCCI invited them for a bilateral cricket tournament in India. They sent our MPs around the world to tell the world that pakistan was behind the Pahalgham attack, and now the @BCCIis playing cricket with them. Last year, BCCI officials partied with pak cricketers." He also questioned why India continues cricket ties with Pakistan despite tensions, and said Indian students and businesses are suffering from trade problems with no clear response from the government. "They told us to boycott China and Chinese goods. They told us that they are showing laal ankh to China. Now the official visit! Did Galwan happen? Did they not challenge our territory? They told us MAGA+ MIGA= MEGA. But from Tareef to Tarif now at 50%. Indian students hit badly, industries and MSMEs facing trouble, but no minister from the Union Government speaking on it. No clarity on the Trade deal. What is our Foreign Policy?" the post read. On August 6, US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order imposing an additional 25 per cent tariff on imports from India. According to the order issued by the White House, Trump cited matters of national security and foreign policy concerns, as well as other relevant trade laws, for the increase, claiming that India's imports of Russian oil, directly or indirectly, pose an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States. After the order, the total tariff on Indian goods will be 50 per cent. While the initial duty becomes effective on August 7, the additional levy will come into effect after 21 days and will be imposed on all Indian goods imported into the US, except for goods already in transit or those meeting specific exemptions.
