Zoo-enthusiast multi-millionaire 'bossman' trampled to death by his 'favourite' elephants

Time of India24-07-2025
Francois Christiaan Conradie
, the multi-millionaire owner of
Gondwana Private Game Reserve
, was tragically killed on July 22 at 8 am after being trampled by a charging elephant. The incident occurred as Conradie was attempting to guide a group of elephants away from tourist lodges at the luxurious South African game reserve.
The six-ton bull elephant reportedly gored Mr. Conradie with its tusks and trampled him multiple times, leaving nearby rangers unable to intervene. "Because he is the boss man, everybody has been warned to say absolutely nothing or they will be out the same day, it is a big clamp down," a senior source at Gondwana stated. "FC was a great guy to work for, and he loved his elephants, which were his favourite, and he felt he had a trust with them, but you have to never forget they may live in a reserve but are wild. He will be greatly missed by all here."

Conradie, who also owned the Caylix Group sports management company, was known for his deep passion for elephants and nature. He held honors degrees in zoology, animal studies, commerce, and marketing, and was described as "an ambitious entrepreneur and passionate about nature."
Gondwana Game Reserve issued a tribute, remembering Mr. Conradie as "more than a leader – he was a mentor, a visionary, and a truly remarkable individual," and a "cherished leader, devoted husband, and father of three." The reserve has requested privacy for the family and appealed to the public to avoid speculation as an investigation into the incident is underway. It remains unknown if guests at the Big 5 reserve, a popular destination for celebrities and tourists, witnessed the violent attack.
Disturbingly, this marks the second fatal
elephant attack
at Gondwana in just over a year. In March 2023, staff member David Kandela, a 36-year-old married father, was killed while guiding a herd through the Eco Tent Lodge area. Mr. Kandela was gored, dragged into the bush, and dismembered by elephants, including a former circus elephant named Bonnie.
Live Events
Mr. Conradie's death has intensified discussions surrounding safety protocols within game reserves, underscoring the inherent risks of working with wild animals. Experts emphasize that even experienced professionals must exercise extreme caution when interacting with elephants, which can exhibit unpredictable behavior despite their generally calm demeanor.

'He's A Good Person': Trump Praises Elon Musk Months After Public Spat

Months after their fallout, Trump defended Elon Musk following a Gallup poll labeling Musk as the "most unpopular public figure in America," calling him a good person. Months after a public fallout between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, the US President came to the defense of the Tesla CEO following a poll that ranked Musk as the 'most unpopular public figure in America," according to a report in NDTV. NDTV reported that a recent survey by a global research firm Gallup, conducted from July 7 to July 21 with 1,000 respondents, revealed Musk's popularity had plummeted by 24 points since January. In response to a question about the survey, Trump told a reporter, 'I don't know [if] that poll's accurate. I think he's a good person. I think he had a bad moment, a really bad moment. But he's a good person. I believe that." The Tesla boss net favorability fell from -4 to -28, with 61 per cent of participants expressing an unfavorable opinion of him. Despite this, 33 per cent still had a positive opinion about Musk while 6 per cent of the respondents had no opinion. In the survey, Americans were asked to rate 14 prominent global figures, including former US President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—who is facing accusations related to humanitarian crisis in Gaza—and Pope Leo XIV. The relationship between Musk, once known as Trump's close ally and dubbed his 'first Buddy," and the US President turned sour earlier this year. The rift began after Musk publicly criticized Trump's tax and spending bill. Tensions escalated in June, with both of them trading personal attacks on social media. Musk accused the Trump administration of hiding documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, implying Trump's name was in them. Trump responded harshly, suggesting Musk should 'go back where he came from," referencing his South African origins. About the Author Manisha Roy First Published: August 07, 2025, 20:11 IST

"Had Bad Moments": Months After Fallout, Trump Says Musk A Good Person

Washington: Months after the relations between Donald Trump and his billionaire aide, Elon Musk, turned sour, the US President defended the Tesla CEO after a poll revealed he was the "most unpopular public figure in America." A survey by the global research firm Gallup found Musk's popularity dropped by 24 points since January, making him the most unfavoured famous person in the United States. "I don't know [if] that poll's accurate. I think he's a good person. I think he had a bad moment, a really bad moment. But he's a good person. I believe that," Trump told a reporter in response to a question about the survey. Trump claims Musk 'really bad moment' 'Poll accurate that Elon is America's most unpopular figure?' — RT (@RT_com) August 7, 2025 In the survey conducted between July 7 and July 21, pollster Gallup asked 1,000 random Americans to rank 14 prominent figures--including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been accused of crimes against humanity for Israel's actions in Gaza-- based on their likability. The list also included Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, Joe Biden and Pope Leo XIV. Musk's net favorability was at -4 in January and came down to -28 in July. The Tesla boss was rated dead last, with 61 per cent of respondents having an unfavourable opinion of him. However, despite the overwhelming majority of negative reactions, 33 per cent of respondents liked Musk, while six per cent said they had no opinion on him at all. Trump Musk Relations The world's richest man, who once enjoyed the status of "First Buddy" to President Trump, had a speedy fall from grace following his criticism of the Republican's signature tax and spending bill. The two had an explosive fallout in June, with the pair trading blows on social media. While Musk alleged the Trump administration was not making the files related to disgraced financier and sex offender Jaffery Epstein public because Trump's name was on the files, the President suggested that the South African-born businessman "go back where he came from."

After an extended period of price escalation across major cities, we are now seeing a welcome stabilisation in values. This price stagnation, while reflective of cautious market sentiment and supply-side adjustments, is also laying the foundation for more sustainable growth," said Praveen Sharma, CEO, REA India ( expected the trend to continue in the near term, which could encourage more end-users to return to the market."At the same time, with improving affordability due to recent rate cuts and strong underlying demand drivers such as income growth and lifestyle aspirations, we remain optimistic about the long-term resilience of the housing sector," Sharma Tomar, Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy at ISB, noted that price stability points to a more mature and balanced housing report noted that the price stabilisation in early 2025 reflects an interplay of global headwinds, cautious buyer sentiment, and reduced launches.
