Urgent need to boost SME competitiveness and diversify trade

AS MCA Vice President and Member of Parliament for Tanjung Piai, I urge the government to address the serious economic challenges our country is facing, particularly the potential ripple effects of the United States imposing high retaliatory tariffs on Malaysian exports.
According to Dr Tamara, a Southeast Asia economist at Bloomberg, if the "triple whammy" effect of US tariffs persists, Malaysia's economic growth in 2025 could fall below 4%.

Cops committed to facilitating Saturday rally, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are committed to facilitating Saturday's (June 26) planned rally to ensure that it proceeds smoothly and safely, while also respecting public spaces shared by all, says Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail. The Inspector-General of Police called for cooperation from all parties to help maintain a harmonious atmosphere throughout the duration of the assembly. "We acknowledge the planned peaceful assembly scheduled to take place this Saturday at Dataran Merdeka. "We fully respect the constitutional rights of Malaysians to express their views and assemble peacefully in accordance with the democratic values upheld in the country," he said in a statement on Friday (July 25). He said as an enforcement agency that upholds the Federal Constitution, the police respect the right of the people to voice their opinions and gather peacefully and respectfully. The IGP advised all participants to remain aware of existing laws and to help preserve public order and safety in the surrounding areas. "It is our hope that every opinion expressed during the assembly will be conveyed in a respectful manner, grounded in the values of courtesy and decorum that define Malaysian society. "For members of the public who are not directly involved, we recommend planning travel in advance and checking real-time traffic updates to avoid potential disruptions, as traffic flow around the area is expected to be affected," he said. Mohd Khalid gave his assurance that public safety will continue to be safeguarded, while the rights and freedoms of the people will be respected. 'We believe that a balance between democratic rights and the rule of law can be achieved through close cooperation and shared responsibility,' he added. He also expressed gratitude for the public's trust and called on all parties to act responsibly and with maturity. "Let us work together to ensure that every opportunity for democratic expression is used positively, for the sake of national harmony and the wellbeing of society,' he said.

IGP: Traffic disruptions likely due to Dataran Merdeka rally Saturday, avoid unnecessary travel

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 — Police have advised the public to prepare for possible traffic disruptions in central Kuala Lumpur due to a rally tomorrow at Dataran Merdeka. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalil Ismail said the Royal Malaysia Police respects the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and will play a facilitative role during the event. The IGP also advised members of the public not attending the rally to avoid the area or travel early to prevent delays. Traffic flow around Dataran Merdeka is expected to experience changes while the event takes place, the IGP explained. He added that his agency will help manage the traffic situation, and ensure the safety of all participants and the general public. 'Let us jointly ensure that this open democratic space is used positively for the sake of maintaining harmony and the welfare of the community as a whole,' he said in a statement today. Khalil also urged all involved to obey existing laws and maintain order throughout the rally, encouraging rally-goers to act respectfully and uphold Malaysian values of civility. KL police previously said it would not close any roads in the city for the rally, but would increase presence at key gathering points and train stations. Police previously projected that between 10,000 and 15,000 people could attend the anti-government rally that PAS is organising this Saturday.
