Saeed Al Tayer Inaugurates Regional Green Economy Forum 2025 in Morocco
Themed 'Empowering African Cities: Paving the Path to Carbon Neutrality,' the two-day event brought together ministers, mayors, youth leaders, and global experts to chart a practical roadmap toward sustainable urban development across Africa.
In his keynote, Al Tayer emphasised the urgency of climate action and the pivotal role of cities in driving the green transition. He reaffirmed the UAE's global leadership in sustainability and lauded the host country for its dedication to climate goals. Al Tayer also highlighted WGEO's Carbon Neutral Cities Initiative and the Global Alliance on Green Economy (GAGE), which currently includes over 90 countries.
Key discussions centred on equipping local governments with tools for green financing, renewable energy, and smart mobility while fostering public-private partnerships and youth involvement. The forum's outcomes will directly contribute to shaping Africa's voice on the global climate agenda and influence the upcoming World Green Economy Summit 2025 in Dubai.
High-level speakers included Moroccan Minister HE Leila Benali, regional and municipal leaders, UN representatives, and members from the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG-Africa). The forum also featured a Youth Roundtable, where Al Tayer urged young leaders to become active changemakers in building a sustainable, equitable future.

SKIMS is opening a physical store in Dubai
This is exciting, first a Primark, then an Ulta Beauty and now there's a new development in international stores arriving to Dubai. SKIMS is opening a physical store in Dubai, specifically in the Mall of the Emirates. The American clothing and swimwear brand is making its first physical store debut in the country. Until now, the brand was primarily available through shopping website Ounass, under the Al Tayer Group. Al Tayer Group are the powerhouse behind huge brands in the UAE such as Harvey Nichols, Prada, Bloomingdales and more. SKIMS is famously co-owned by Kim Kardashian and promotes a body positive outlook. The brand was originally founded in 2019 and many products have gone viral on social media since. You can now try them before you buy them in store in the Mall of the Emirates. From iconic sculpting bodysuits to comfy loungewear, we're expecting the store to have a full range of products. While there's been no formal announcement, our What's On sources have spotted boards up in the mall with the unmistakeable SKIMS logo and even though we're not sure exactly when it will open, we're thinking it's soon. DEWA's AI-powered Afkari platform delivers strong employee engagement in improving efficiency
Dubai, UAE: Afkari, a Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) internal innovation platform, received 3,424 employee ideas during the first half of 2025, an increase of 24.8% from the same period last year, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, has said. Participation increased by 7% year on year during the same period to 2,056 employees, with 1,064 ideas contributing to cost savings and 206 currently under implementation. Since its inception in 2015, Afkari has amassed over 70,850 ideas. Afkari, which is powered by artificial intelligence (AI), encourages employees to come up with innovative ideas that drive continuous improvement and consolidate DEWA's competitiveness locally and globally. Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA's proactive approach to converting these ideas into actionable and impactful solutions, coupled with its keenness to empower employees and reward them for their creative input, has significantly enriched its innovation culture. Al Tayer also commended the forward-thinking ideas that harness AI and emerging technologies to achieve optimal performance in every facet of electricity and water operations, enabling DEWA to provide world-class services that not only delight stakeholders but exceed their expectations. Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA has enhanced Afkari platform with the AI Microsoft 365 Copilot smart assistant.
