India's LR-LACM Missile: 1500KM Range, Stealth Tech — Why Türkiye Fears Greek Interest
LR-LACM, with a range of 1,000–1,500 km (1,000+ km from naval platforms), is powered by India's Manik STFE engine, allowing low-altitude flight and radar evasion
India has rapidly shifted from being a major arms importer to a rising defence exporter. After the use of BrahMos in Operation Sindoor, countries like Armenia, the Philippines, and now Greece have shown interest in India's indigenous missile technology.
Adding to its arsenal, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LR-LACM), a next-generation weapon with a range of 1,500 km and stealth radar technology.
Deadlier Than BrahMos
Touted as more lethal than BrahMos, the LR-LACM is reportedly capable of penetrating even advanced air defence systems like Turkey's S-400. This missile is considered more lethal than BrahMos, with a range of 1,000 to 1,500 kilometres and advanced stealth capabilities. According to reports, India has informally offered this advanced missile to Greece, causing a stir in Turkey due to the existing enmity between Turkey and Greece.
How Lethal Is This Missile?
The LR-LACM has a range of 1,000 to 1,500 kilometres, with over 1,000 kilometres when launched from a naval platform. It is fully indigenously developed and powered by the Manik Small Turbo Fan Engine (STFE), enabling it to fly at low altitudes and evade radar detection. Capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads, the missile is equipped with GPS and a highly accurate guidance system, making it a potent weapon for long-range strategic targets.
Why Is Türkiye Concerned?
Sources indicate that India extended this offer during the DEFEA 2025 defence exhibition in Athens in May 2025, although official confirmation from India or Greece is pending.
Turkish media interprets this move as India's 'revenge' for Turkey's support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Turkey fears that if Greece acquires the LR-LACM missile, it could threaten Turkish airports and S-400 systems in Izmir and Chanakkale.

Cyber commandos to spot and prevent AI-driven offences
1 2 Pune: As cybercriminals increasingly employ artificial intelligence (AI) for sophisticated attacks, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to train "cyber commandos" to effectively identify, intercept, and neutralise AI-driven cyber threats. Training for two batches of commandos, comprising law enforcement personnel, including officers from the Maharashtra Police, will soon commence at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a deemed university of the DRDO. Manisha Nene, the head of computer science department at DIAT, said, "As cybercrimes rapidly evolve due to integration of advanced AI tools in criminal activities, we have updated the syllabus for our training programme. We will train them on how to investigate these AI tools used in criminal cases." You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune The first batch of 30 cyber commandos completed the course at the institute in May. "The trained personnel, particularly from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor, utilising their knowledge gained in the course. This feedback was communicated to us," added Nene. The six-month course will cover various aspects of combating a new breed of cybercrimes, including AI-generated deepfakes, automated phishing campaigns, identity spoofing, algorithmic attacks on critical infrastructure, and real-time manipulation of data streams. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally - Which to Eat (Most People Ignore) Undo According to the report titled, "The State of AI-Powered Cybercrime: Threat & Mitigation Report 2025," recently released by the Global Initiative for Restructuring Environment and Management (GIREM) in Bengaluru, AI tools are implicated in approximately 82.6% of all phishing emails. "AI is not only used to generate realistic email text but also to create convincing dashboards, register typo-squatting domains, and develop dynamic, interactive phishing pages, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of these cyber threats," stated the report. DIAT has involved eight of its professors and engaged DRDO scientists and other experts working in the field. "What is crucial for us is to bring a variety of perspectives and scenarios so that attendees can work on or investigate complex cases in real-time. We also simulate situations by working on specific cases during the class, providing them with exposure to real situations," the official added. Sanjay Shintre, deputy inspector general of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell, told TOI, "The use of AI tools is significant in several cyber cases, and it is often complicated to address these issues at the police station level. Therefore, the role of highly trained police personnel is crucial. These trained cyber commandos will become valuable assets for the force in tackling advanced cybercrimes." Shintre noted that very few personnel from the Maharashtra Police were able to pass the entrance examination for the course due to lack of theoretical knowledge. "There are many police officers and personnel who excel in investigating cybercrime cases, but their lack of theoretical knowledge prevents them from clearing the entrance tests. We are working to change this scenario," he added. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
