MaskTV to Launch Mask Coin, Indias Pioneer OTT Digital Token, on August 15
With this innovation, MaskTV becomes the first streaming platform in India to merge blockchain-inspired rewards with mainstream entertainment — signaling a major step forward in how OTT platforms engage with their audiences.
'Mask Coin isn't just a tech upgrade — it's a cultural shift in how we value our viewers," said Chiranjeevi Bhatt, CEO of MaskTV. 'We're proud to be the first OTT platform in the country to launch a digital token. Our goal is simple: let people watch what they love and earn while doing it. On Independence Day, we're giving subscribers a new kind of freedom — financial, digital, and cultural." Mansie Bhatt, Director at MaskTV, added: 'This is about more than streaming. It's about unlocking access to a future where crypto is for everyone. With Mask Coin, we want to make digital currency easy, rewarding, and exciting — even for someone using it for the first time." A built-in Mask Wallet will go live within the MaskTV app (web and mobile) on the same day, enabling users to track and redeem their earned coins seamlessly.
As India celebrates its 78th Independence Day, MaskTV takes a pioneering step forward — combining entertainment with empowerment, and putting the future of streaming directly in the hands of its viewers.

J&K statehood may find mention in I-Day speech
NEW DELHI: Political circles are buzzing with speculation about a potential major announcement regarding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech on August 15. This speculation follows the Centre's call for citizens to share ideas for the PM's Independence Day speech. As per tradition, the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi and addresses the nation every year on the occasion. Following the appeal on the NaMo app, one individual, among many others, suggested that the PM consider strengthening ties with neighbouring countries. Several recommended the promotion of indigenous agriculture-based activities in trade. Padmini Narasimha suggested prioritising the export business while placing importance on women's development, while Naresh Mandrekar proposed that the government think about fostering better relations with neighbouring countries. Amid growing tensions over tariffs with the United States, one Nitin Gupta urged the PM to deliver a reassuring message in his address, supporting the Make-In-India movement. Harimohan Reddy Middela, responding to the PM's appeal, called on him to reaffirm his commitment to safeguarding national interests, particularly in relation to farmers' welfare, given the recent conflicts sparked by the US's unilateral tariffs. Meanwhile, sources here from power corridors hinted that this year's Independence day is expected to touch upon various issues, including the country's growth, the defence sector, Operation Sindoor, India's stance on combating terrorism, and its evolving strategy on the issue, among others. It is also expected that PM Modi might unveil special initiatives for youth and women.

Shekhar Kapur Says He Was Fired By Dharmendra From Bobby Deol's Debut Barsaat: 'Didn't Walk Out'
Last Updated: Shekhar Kapur has revealed he was fired from Bobby Deol's debut Barsaat, ending years of speculation about the 90s Bollywood shake-up. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has set the record straight on one of Bollywood's longest-whispered rumours – that he walked away from Bobby Deol's debut film Barsaat. The director says the truth is not this. 'I never walked out, I have been thrown out of films," Kapur told Filmfare. 'Barsaat was an idea that was being developed and I think I wasn't quite understanding Dharam ji's ideas. Then Sunny was in London and he called the next guy who took over, Rajkumar Santoshi. So I talked to Raj ji and told him that since you have done films before with all of them, can you talk to Dharam ji? And he said, 'Haan main sambhal leta hoon.' And the next day I found out, he was directing it. That's it. That's all that happened. People say I walked out of it, but let me be honest, I didn't walk out of it. Mind you, I immediately went and made Bandit Queen." In the 1990s, Bobby's launch was treated like the arrival of a future superstar. The younger son of Dharmendra, he was cast opposite Twinkle Khanna, daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. Barsaat was initially Kapur's project, fresh off his hits Mr India and Masoom. But Bobby says the switch happened after just under a month of shooting. Speaking at the Jagran Film Festival in 2023, he recalled, 'I started shooting for the film very early and Shekhar Kapur was the director. We shot for the film for 27 days. He then got an offer from Hollywood to make Bandit Queen. Shekhar said, 'I will do Bandit Queen and come back to do Barsaat.' But my father told him that he didn't want to delay it. He told Shekhar, 'You go do your film, I will find somebody else.' And I think Rajkumar Santoshi was waiting to direct my film. I got lucky with him." Even on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Bobby poked fun at the shake-up, joking, 'Maybe that's why Shekhar ran away. Shekhar Kapur. He was scared. But then Raj directed the film. But I never thought I was under pressure." Barsaat follows Badal (Bobby Deol), a carefree young man from a small town who moves to the city for college, where he meets and falls in love with Tina (Twinkle Khanna), the spirited daughter of a wealthy and overprotective father. As their romance blossoms, Badal finds himself clashing with Tina's family, particularly her father, who disapproves of their relationship. The story weaves together themes of love, loyalty, and standing up for one's beliefs, with action-packed confrontations and emotional drama driving Badal's fight to win over Tina's heart.
