
SLBC tunnel to be completed in three years: Telangana minister Komatireddy
NALGONDA: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that the SLBC tunnel project, estimated at Rs 4,000 crore, will be completed within three years. Work had been halted due to a collapse but has now resumed.
On Tuesday, the minister launched repair works for the G Edavelli tank in Kanagal mandal, Nalgonda district, worth Rs 1 crore. He emphasised the government's focus on completing irrigation projects to ensure optimal water use by farmers. Another Rs 1 crore has been sanctioned through DMFT for the Yadavelli tank sluice repairs, which begin Wednesday.
He also highlighted various developmental works, including 80 Indiramma houses at Rs 4 crore, BT roads (Rs 5 crore) and drainage works amounting to Rs 30 lakh. He directed engineers to ensure quality and timely completion.
On healthcare, Venkat announced that Kanagal Hospital now has a modern glaucoma testing machine, enhancing its status to district hospital standards. He also revealed plans for a solar power unit for Kanagal mandal self-help groups, similar to Aitipamula's model, and encouraged residents to raise local issues with him.
District Collector Ila Tripathi said efforts are underway to prevent water wastage from projects like Udayasamudram and Brahmana Vellamula, with regular conferences ensuring efficient usage. Following the minister's orders, funds were sanctioned for Yadavelli tank repairs to fix a sluice breach.

Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The PM was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Before the inauguration, the PM inspected the bridge and spoke to the engineers and the labourers, who turned the dream into a reality. The Chenab rail bridge is the architectural marvel; it is located at a height of 359 meters above the river, and is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge is built to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Through the Vande Bharat train moving on the bridge, it will take just about 3 hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing existing travel time by 2-3 hours. The 272-km USBRL project is built at a cost of around Rs 43,780 crore, and includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration. PM Modi flags off Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express
Katra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off a Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, the first train connection between the Kashmir valley and the Jammu region. Modi inaugurated the train in the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, among others. According to Northern Railway, the train has two travelling classes -- Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC) -- with tickets costing Rs 715 and Rs 1,320, respectively.

The new service will not only connect Jammu to Kashmir via a rail link but also Kashmir to the rest of India for the first time. While road and air connectivity already existed, the rail link is significant due to the region's challenging geography and tough terrain. The rail route, which is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), will be open for commercial services starting Saturday. Katra, Jammu: With chants of 'Jai Shera Wali Da' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express connecting Jammu to Kashmir Friday. The new railway line is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the Jammu region and Srinagar. The fare for the Katra-Srinagar route is Rs 715 for chair car and Rs 1,350 for executive class. 'This is not just a new railway service but also symbolic of how far the region's railway network has progressed over the last 11 years,' said Railway spokesperson Dilip Kumar. 'We are witnessing history in the making. This railway line is a marvel, and advanced technology has been used to ensure all-weather connectivity,' he added. The inauguration comes weeks after the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Since then, tourism in Kashmir has seen a massive decline. The rail link is being seen as a step towards restoring normalcy and inviting tourists to revisit the Valley. 'Earlier, there would be no space to walk at Dal Lake because of the massive tourist footfall. Now, we hardly see a few. Hope this railway line will restore normalcy,' said a shawl seller in Srinagar. By road, the journey used to take around 6-7 hours. For the first time, two Vande Bharat trains will run consecutively—one from Katra and the other from Srinagar—both flagged off by the prime minister. The prime minister also inaugurated two major engineering landmarks. One is the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, standing 359 metres above the riverbed, 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower. It spans 1,315 metres and is part of the USBRL. It is engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. Located about 80 km from Jammu, it spans the Anji River and has been constructed by Hindustan Construction Company. The USBRL will cross a stretch of 271 km that includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges. It has been built at a cost of Rs 43,780 crore. Before the final launch, several trial runs were conducted. In the last run, army and security personnel boarded the train as it passed over the Chenab Bridge to assess wind resistance and safety protocols. According to officials, the bridge is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 260 km/h.
