Wallabies upset Springboks at Ellis Park from 22-0 down in Rugby Championship

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Australia toppled South Africa at Ellis Park for the first time in 62 years with a sensational 38-22 comeback win from 22-0 down in the Rugby Championship opener on Saturday. The Wallabies scored a remarkable six straight tries against the double world champion and Rugby Championship titleholder to earn the signature win of Joe Schmidt's 18-month coaching reign. Australia came to the highveld battle-hardened from the narrow home series loss to the British and Irish Lions, but its record in South Africa made it an obvious underdog. It hadn't won in South Africa since 2011 or at Ellis Park since 1963. The Springboks underlined their credentials by sprinting to 22-0 in 17 minutes with three well-made tries. But they never scored again. Australia didn't panic, absorbed the blows, tightened its defense and watched a Springboks side packed with 18 World Cup winners wobble as the pressure was returned. The Wallabies were 22-5 down at halftime, and went ahead for the first time in the 64th minute through captain Harry Wilson's second try and last act of the match. They added two more tries to finish the stronger team at an altitude in which they have traditionally struggled for decades. ___ AP rugby:

Liverpool fan arrested for racist taunts at opposing player

Police in Britain have arrested a man from Liverpool who is accused of shouting racist comments at a player during a Premier League soccer game this week. Photo courtesy of Merseyside Police Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Police in Britain have arrested a man from Liverpool who is accused of shouting racist comments at a player during a Premier League soccer game this week. The 47-year-old man was identified and removed from stands at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool after yelling racist chants at visiting Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo, police confirmed in a media release. Semenyo, who is Black, first reported the incident to the game's referee who then notified officials. The game was briefly paused in the 29th minute while the fan was removed. The game - a 4-2 Liverpool victory - was the first of the season for both teams. "Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible," Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton said in the police statement. "There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police immediately, so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening." The Premier League said it would also launch its own investigation. "Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth. We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football," the home team said in a statement issued through police. Semenyo on Saturday addressed the issue on social media. "Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever - not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together," Semenyo, who is from Chelsea but represents Ghana internationally, wrote on Instagram. "To my Bournemouth team-mates who supported me in that moment, to the Liverpool players and fans who showed their true character, to the Premier League officials who handled it professionally - thank you. Football showed its best side when it mattered most."

Swansea City ratings as full-back shines in win over Sheffield United

Swansea City picked up their first win of the new Championship season by edging their way to an impressive 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Stadium. Ronald's goal midway through the second half proved enough to hand victory to Alan Sheehan's men. Here's how the players rated on the day. READ MORE: BBC announce name change to famous Match of the Day show after Gary Lineker exit READ MORE: Teenage footballer ridiculed by online trolls as club pull big announcement Lawrence Vigouroux 7 Didn't end up really making a save, but was pretty tidy when called upon. Josh Key 8 - STAR MAN So much energy on the right hand side. Did well defensively too, making some key clearances. Often in and around some Swansea's brightest moments. Ben Cabango (c) 8 Strong in the tackle. Made some really good interceptions too. Cameron Burgess 8 As above, really. Josh Tymon 8 Bombed up and down the left all day. Another superb showing. Goncalo Franco 7 Battled fairly well in the middle of the park, but wasn't quite his most influential game. Malick Yalcouye 7 Some really promising moments, including an early blocked shot. But was also caught in possession a couple of times. A solid debut, but hopefully more to come. Ronald 8 Should probably have scored in the first half, but put some good crosses in, and took his goal well. A good outing on the whole. Ethan Galbraith 7 Looked after possession reasonably well and linked up nicely with his colleagues in the final third. Good out of possession too. Jisung Eom 7 Really good in the build-up, but couldn't quite find a decisive outcome in the final third at times. Liam Cullen 7 Isolated for much of the first half, but was involved in the goal and grew into the game reasonably well. Subbed. Subs: Melker Widell (on for Yalcouye 62) - Should have scored a second for his side late on, but did okay - 6 Zeidane Inoussa (on for Eom 62) - Architect of the goal. Really good cameo - 7 Jay Fulton (on for Ronald 90) - N/A Bobby Wales (on for Cullen 90+7) - N/A
