Tourist who traveled to Florida wins $1M lottery prize with ticket bought at Walmart
A Texas tourist who traveled to Florida this year ended up walking away from the Sunshine State with substantially more money in his bank account.
The Florida Lottery announced that David Le, a Lone Star state native, recently won a $1 million prize.
Le, who lives in Katy, Texas, was in Cape Coral when he purchased the winning ticket at a Walmart Supercenter, according to the May 2 statement.
Cape Coral is a much-visited tourist destination with hundreds of miles of canals for boaters. It also offers proximity to the Gulf of America.
Le's prize amounted to $1 million as part of the $1,000,00 A Year For Life Spectacular Scratch-Off Game.
The two top prizes for the game are $1 million a year for life — but Le won a one-time $1 million prize.
The game offers 234 prizes of $1 million.
The chances of winning any prize are 1-in-4.50.
The tourist's winnings were slightly diminished when he opted to accept the prize as a lump-sum payment.
"He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.00," the Florida Lottery noted in its press release.
"The retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket."
The Florida Lottery describes its scratch-off games as being "an important part of the Lottery's portfolio of games, comprising approximately 74% of ticket sales in fiscal year 2023-2024."
The lottery noted that "since inception, Scratch-Off games have awarded more than $65.5 billion in prizes, created 2,283 millionaires, and generated more than $19.80 billion for the state's Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF)."
The announcement came weeks after a homeless man in California won $1 million through a lottery ticket purchased at a liquor store.
"I was so excited, even more than him," the liquor store's owner told the Los Angeles Times in April.
"He's a good person. He deserves every penny. I was very excited it happened to a person who deserved it, and he actually needed it."

PCIe 7.0 is coming, but not soon, and not for you
The PCIe 7.0 specification has now been released, while many of us are still waiting for PCIe 6.0 to materialize in consumer products. The PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) announced on Wednesday that PCIe 7.0 is now available to members of its organization, delivering a theoretical maximum bandwidth speed of 512GB per second in both directions, across a x16 connection. 'PCIe technology has served as the high-bandwidth, low-latency IO interconnect of choice for over two decades and we are pleased to announce the release of the PCIe 7.0 specification, which continues our long-standing tradition of doubling the IO bandwidth every three years,' PCI-SIG President Al Yanes said in the announcement. 'As artificial intelligence applications continue to scale rapidly, the next generation of PCIe technology meets the bandwidth demands of data-intensive markets deploying AI, including hyperscale data centers, high performance computing (HPC), automotive, and military/aerospace.' You may have noticed that consumer computing devices weren't included in that statement — the specification is targeting data-driven applications like cloud and quantum computing datacenters for now, and will take some time to even appear in those markets. PCI-SIG says that PCIe 7.0 will be backward compatible with previous PCI Express versions, but there's no mention of plans to bring it to everyday desktop SSDs or GPUs any time soon. Ohio's 442 craft breweries had a $1.29 billion economic impact in 2024

Ohio's 442 craft breweries brought in $1.29 billion of economic activity in 2024, according to the Ohio Craft Brewers Association economic and fiscal impact of Ohio's craft brewing industry. This is an increase from 2022 when Ohio breweries contributed $1.27 billion to the economy. Beer was flowing in Ohio with 1.15 million barrels brewed. Ohio craft breweries generated an estimated $128.6 million of state and local taxes and $99.1 million of federal taxes in 2024, according to the report. The number of craft breweries in Ohio continued to go up. There were 45 in 2011, 135 in 2015, 300 in 2018, 357 in 2020, 420 in 2022, and 442 in 2024, according to the report. 53 breweries are in planning around the state. The Northwest region had 41 craft breweries that brewed 17,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $78 million. The North Central region had 37 craft breweries that brewed 10,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $36.1 million. The Greater Cleveland region had 59 craft breweries that brewed 209,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $231 million. The Northeast region had 49 craft breweries that brewed 26,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $71.2 million. The State Line region had 46 craft breweries that brewed 9,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $34.8 million. The West Central region had 39 craft breweries that brewed 16,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $60.7 million. The Greater Columbus region had 56 craft breweries that brewed 159,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $184 million. The Greater Cincinnati region had 50 craft breweries that brewed 669,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $495.6 million. The Southwest region had 33 craft breweries that brewed 16,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $45.7 million. The Southeast region had 32 craft breweries that brewed 19,000 barrels of beer for an economic impact of $52.4 million. Ohio breweries will likely see the effects of new tariffs on aluminum, steel and malted barley. A tariff is a tax on imported goods and President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on aluminum and steel imported into the United States, and a 25% tariff on Canadian barley. There were 9,796 craft breweries across the country in 2024. Last year was the first year since 2005 that there were more brewery closing than openings nationwide — with 430 new breweries and 529 breweries closed, according to the Brewers Association.
