AGC objects to Ilham Tower's bid to challenge MACC seizure of Menara Ilham
Senior Federal Counsel Nurhafizza Azizan informed the High Court of the objection during today's proceedings before Judge Datuk Amarjeet Singh.
The court directed both parties to file written submissions by Aug 13, with any replies to be submitted by Aug 20. The hearing is set for Sept 18.
Ilham Tower was represented by counsel Datuk Dr Gurdial Singh Nijar. It filed the ex-parte application through Messrs Raj & Sach on June 23.
Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, widow of former finance minister the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, is listed as one of the company's directors.
The other respondents named were MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki; senior officer Mohd Razi Rahhim @ Rahim; deputy public prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib; the Public Prosecutor; Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; and the Government of Malaysia.
The company is seeking a declaration that the seizure order or notice issued by the second respondent (Ahmad Akram), on June 4, 2025, under Section 51(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, in relation to the seizure of Menara Ilham at Jalan Binjai, is unlawful and therefore null and void.
It is also seeking a certiorari order to quash the seizure notice along with all related decisions or actions.
In addition, a mandamus order is sought to compel the second respondent, or any officer, employee, agent, or person authorised by him, to cancel the said notice.
The applicant further seeks a court order to stay the enforcement of the seizure notice and all related decisions or actions pending disposal of the judicial review leave application, as well as damages and costs. — Bernama

Govt finalising talks on Mex II project, Dewan told
PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya is currently finalising discussions with the Receivers and Managers (R&M) of the Maju Expressway (Mex II) to find the best solution for completing the stalled extension project, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. According to Nanta, the discussions focus on a solution to complete the project, considering various aspects, including the project's cost, traffic impact analysis, toll rates, cash flow management, and other factors necessary to ensure the project's sustainability. 'The plan and direction of the Mex II project will be coordinated by a Central Agency together with the relevant Ministries or agencies, particularly regarding the financial model, taking into account the appropriate parameters for the assessment of the project's viability, including technical aspects, will be submitted to the Cabinet for consideration,' he said. Nanta stated this in a written parliamentary reply dated July 31, in response to Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong), who had asked about updates on the Mex II project, including whether the concessionaire requires government approval for claim applications. She also inquired about the funding required for the project's completion and whether additional funding would result in higher toll rates. According to Nanta, the Mex II project was entirely borne by the concessionaire through the build-operate-transfer (BOT) method. 'All project progress confirmation, including progress claims, is reviewed and verified between the contractor, concessionaire, supervision consultant and independent checking engineer, which are submitted directly to the sukuk party,' said Nanta. 'Therefore, the progress claims for this project do not involve approval at the federal level, since it involved private financing,' he added. Mex II is a planned three-lane dual carriageway designed to connect the MEX Putrajaya interchange to the KLIA highway. The project began construction in 2016, and it was initially scheduled for completion in December 2019, but was halted due to financial issues. The 18km extension project of the Mex II also came under scrutiny recently following a graft probe into allegations of false claims involving RM360mil. Four individuals, including a Datuk Seri, were previously detained in connection with investigations into funds raised through sukuk issuance for the project. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had said 61 witnesses had been called in to assist with investigations In early May, the MACC seized various assets, including luxury vehicles, designer handbags, jewellery and cash totalling RM32mil from an individual with a Tan Sri title. This followed reports that MACC had opened three investigation papers related to bribery and false claims involving the Mex II project.

Further action in Zara Qairina case awaits AGC's instructions, says Sabah police commissioner
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Further action in the investigation into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir will depend on instructions from the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), the Sabah police commissioner said today. Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the investigation paper is currently at Bukit Aman for final review before being submitted to the AGC. 'Any further action regarding the investigation will depend on the AGC once the case file is referred to the department,' he said when contacted by Harian Metro. He added that police have received four reports related to the case, including a fresh report lodged by Zara Qairina's mother at the Sipitang police station in Sabah earlier today. The latest report was filed by Noraidah Lamat, 45, after she recalled seeing bruises on her daughter's back while bathing her body in preparation for burial at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17. In a joint statement, Noraidah's lawyers, Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, said she only remembered the bruises yesterday when asked about the condition of Zara Qairina's body during funeral preparations. They said the detail had not been included in earlier police reports because she had completely forgotten about it. The lawyers also urged authorities to exhume Zara Qairina's grave immediately so that a post-mortem could be carried out to determine the actual cause of death and whether criminal elements were involved. On Friday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the investigation had been completed and that the file would be submitted to the AGC this week. Zara Qairina, a student at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan in Papar, Sabah, was believed to have fallen from the third floor. She was found unconscious in a drain near her dormitory at around 4am on July 16. She died the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital. Her death has drawn significant public attention and reaction on social media.

[UPDATED] Unity government delivers more to Sabah, says Anwar
KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the unity government has provided Sabah with more infrastructure, funding and recognition of its rights than previous administrations. "As compared to 2025 under the previous administration between 2021 and 2022, we have increased the allocation for Sabah to RM16 billion. That is no small amount. "In 2022, the special grant stood at RM125.6 million. Now that we are in power, we have increased it by RM600 million," he said during the closing ceremony of the three-day National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen event at the Sabah International Convention Centre here. Anwar also said that the 350-kilometre Pan Borneo Highway Phase 1B has already been tendered under the Unity Government. As for electricity, which was previously fully under the federal government, it has now been handed over to the Sabah government, including continued subsidies for seven years until 2030, with RM3.54 billion allocated to support utility company Sabah Electricity in the state. "Because of the spirit of MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963), there are matters that can be handled by the state government. Any project below RM50 million is handed to Sabah's Public Works Department (JKR)." In 2023, the federal government allocated RM300 million to address water supply issues. An upcoming Sabah Heart Centre at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital is also in the pipeline. He said politicians should focus on delivering results while in office, rather than criticising those in power only after leaving their posts. "Anyone can gather thousands of people; those with money can assemble a crowd. "But what matters is whether we can foster understanding, uplift dignity, and ensure that these gatherings bring meaningful change and improve livelihoods or are we merely stoking anger and hatred without achieving any real outcomes? "That's why we say in the world of politics, administration, and the economy, we must focus. We can talk at length, but if we don't focus on the task at hand, we cannot deliver results. And when we demonstrate our capability, we can achieve things previously thought impossible." Present at the event were Agriculture and Food Security minister Datuk Mohamad Sabu and his deputy Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup. Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, deputy chief minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, state finance minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
