PM Anwar: Thailand, Cambodia agree to ceasefire
PUTRAJAYA (July 28): Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate ceasefire amid rising tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting held in Putrajaya on Monday.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the agreement after chairing the special meeting between Thailand and Cambodia at the Seri Perdana Complex here.
Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet attended the meeting, which began at 3 pm.
Also in attendance were United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing. The US was a co-organiser of the meeting while China, an observer.
Last Friday, Anwar had called Phumtham and Manet separately, appealing for both leaders to seek an immediate ceasefire and return to dialogue to resolve their dispute.
'Both Cambodia and Thailand reached a common understanding as follows: an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with effect from 24:00 hr local time on July 28, 2025. China, Zimbabwe ink cooperation deal, food assistance package
HARARE, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- China and Zimbabwe on Wednesday signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation and exchange of letters for a new batch of food assistance to boost Zimbabwe's socio-economic development and food security. Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over the signing ceremony at the State House, where Zimbabwean Minister of Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube thanked China for its continued support to various economic sectors in Zimbabwe. He said that the previous economic and technical cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in 2020 has supported, among other projects, the drilling of boreholes across the country and the implementation of the Juncao technology assistance project that helps Zimbabwean farmers to cultivate hybrid grass rich in protein. "The government of Zimbabwe sincerely appreciates and acknowledges the emergency food assistance continuously received from China," Ncube said. "Indeed, China has demonstrated that they are our all-weather friend through the invaluable support they have consistently rendered to the people of Zimbabwe." For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding said the agreements were a testimony of the resilient ties between the two countries and the affirmation of China's unwavering solidarity with Zimbabwe. Putin says Russia-Malaysia political dialogie is well established
MOSCOW: Political dialogue between Moscow and Kuala Lumpur is well established, with ongoing contacts between various agencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, TASS news agency reported. Putin warmly welcomed Sultan Ibrahim and his delegation to the Kremlin, noting that the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for nearly six decades. "Political dialogue is well established. We communicate at the government and parliamentary levels and are in constant contact.
