MOSCOW: Political dialogue between Moscow and Kuala Lumpur is well established, with ongoing contacts between various agencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, TASS news agency reported.
Putin warmly welcomed Sultan Ibrahim and his delegation to the Kremlin, noting that the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for nearly six decades.
"Political dialogue is well established. We communicate at the government and parliamentary levels and are in constant contact.
"As I have said, we are in constant contact through various departments.
"Government leaders visit our country. I also have good relations with them," Putin said.
The Russian president also highlighted Malaysia's role in the Russia–Islamic World strategic development group, which "has become an effective tool for cooperation and mutual understanding between Russia and the countries of the Islamic world."
During the meeting, Putin said he had visited Malaysia three times and had fond memories of the visits.
"I am not even talking about the unique and fabulous nature.
"We were always welcomed very warmly at a very high level.
"Both I and the members of my delegation who visited your country always remember this with gratitude."
The Russian leader believed that the Malaysian king's visit would be fruitful.
"I hope that you and members of your delegation enjoy getting to know Moscow, one of the fastest-growing and most vibrant metropolises in the world," he concluded.

Kuwait oil minister says OPEC monitoring market, Trump remarks on Russian oil

REUTERS/Stringer/File Photo KUWAIT (Reuters) -Kuwait's Oil Minister Tariq Al-Roumi said on Thursday that OPEC is closely monitoring global oil supply, demand trends, and U.S. President Donald Trump's recent remarks on Russian oil. "Through OPEC, we are monitoring the market in terms of supply and demand, and we are monitoring the U.S. President's statements," Al-Roumi told reporters, adding that he expects oil prices to be below $72 per barrel. The minister described the market as healthy, with demand growing at a moderate pace. Oil prices slid about 1% to an eight-week low on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about progress in talks with Moscow created uncertainty over whether the U.S. would impose further sanctions on Russia. Trump has threatened additional sanctions on Moscow if no moves are made to end the war in Ukraine. Washington imposed on Wednesday an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing New Delhi's continued imports of Russian oil. 2026 Madani Budget to focus on 'floor and ceilings' reforms, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2026 Madani Budget will focus on "floor and ceiling" issues across various sectors and segments, in line with the broader framework of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) tabled last month. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the emphasis was necessary as any focus on growth and investment without addressing the "floor" could lead to future problems. "I believe that if we talk about growth and investment without considering the floor, it will become a problem because the cost of goods is not decreasing. "Salaries must increase, even if only slightly. If they rise proportionately or more, it will not create the kind of pressure that some of our people currently feel due to the rising cost of living," he said during his closing remarks at the 2026 Budget Engagement Session held at the Finance Ministry today. Also present was Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. The session was attended by around 300 representatives from the civil service, industry, chambers of commerce, technocrats, economists, academics, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and international bodies. Earlier, in his speech, Amir Hamzah said the 2026 Budget would be the first to align with the goals of the 13MP. He said the budget, scheduled to be tabled on Oct 10, would focus on three main pillars — raising the ceiling, raising the floor, and strengthening good governance in public administration. Amir Hamzah added that in raising the ceiling, the government aims to enhance the country's competitiveness and support high-growth, high-value sectors, particularly the semiconductor industry, energy transition, and the Islamic economy.

ASEAN Leaders Want Malaysia To Continue As Mediator In Thailand-Cambodia Conflict

GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- All ASEAN member state leaders have agreed that Malaysia should continue playing the role of mediator in resolving the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier this morning contacted all ASEAN leaders before receiving a courtesy call from the Thai and Cambodian delegations in Kuala Lumpur for the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting at the Malaysian Armed Forces' Wisma Perwira. Saifuddin Nasution said all the ASEAN leaders or heads of state contacted expressed their support for Malaysia's role in mediating the conflict between the two neighbouring ASEAN countries. 'All agreed that the current bilateral mechanism is sufficient for now, while also agreeing that there will be another round of discussions after today's meeting,' he told a press conference after the meeting. Also present were Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari and Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar. Saifuddin Nasution said Malaysia appreciates the determination and willingness shown by the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand in seeking a resolution to their conflict. "In today's meeting, the heads and members of the delegations from both countries truly upheld the principles long practised at the ASEAN level, namely consultation and dialogue based on trust and mutual respect," he said. He said the meeting reflects the shared understanding that a ceasefire is not merely a pause, but a promise to protect lives, to uphold dignity and to prevent further suffering. "That promise must be honoured through our commitment, effective monitoring and sincere political will from both sides. We are proud to see that both sides have given this commitment throughout the meetings in the last few days.
