Repair shop worker racked up tolls and miles on customer car
'I dropped it off, and then I flew out of town for almost four weeks,' Montgomery explained.
But he claims the repair shop added miles and racked up tolls while he was out of town.
He said, 'So obviously, somebody was utilizing the vehicle, you know, the way they shouldn't have been.'

Montgomery bought a 2018 Cadillac ATS from a dealership off East Colonial Drive in Orlando called DriveHub. 'They really hyped up this 150-point inspection,' he said.
But he had some problems with the car almost immediately after closing the deal.
Montgomery told Action 9 Consumer Investigator Jeff Deal, 'Honestly, it was like one of those terrible old cartoons where you drive off the lot and the car starts falling apart initially. You know what I mean? Like, almost immediately.'
It turned out to be a brake problem and the windshield wipers didn't work, but he said DriveHub was responsive. It instructed him to take it to Repair Hub, a shop a short distance away.
Although the companies have similar names, they have different ownership. DriveHub sent an email to Action 9 explaining it frequently collaborates with Repair Hub to resolve post-sale repairs.
When Montgomery returned to central Florida, he said he still had to wait for some repairs and when it was time to take it home, he noticed the valve caps on his tires were missing.
Montgomery said, 'One of the gentlemen went around to other, I'm assuming, other customers' cars, and just started pulling them off of other people's cars and putting them on mine, like, oh my God.'
In the days that followed, he received notices in the mail from the Central Florida Expressway Authority showing 107 toll transactions on his car over a 19-day period. They were all dates Eric Montgomery was out of town. The tolls were on a route between east Orlando and Horizon West for at least 9-days. It appears the car was kept overnights and weekends in the Horizon West area.
In an email to Action 9, DriveHub wrote, 'there is no evidence that the vehicle was excessively driven or misused while in Repair Hub's custody.'
So, Action 9 stopped at Repair Hub to ask about the tolls.
Jeff Deal said, 'Somebody was clearly driving it. Nine different times kept overnight on the weekends and everything.'
A man who identified himself as Joao, one of the owners, responded, 'Because I tell you, I can show you the last owner of the car is a friend.'
He admitted an employee drove the Cadillac, but claimed the employee thought the car belonged to a friend who used to own it and wouldn't have minded him driving it. He said the employee didn't realize it had been sold to Montgomery.
The owner said, 'I think it was two weeks he used. The once employed here, the guy, don't work here anymore.'
While Action 9 hasn't been able to determine the exact number of miles put on the car while in the care of Repair Hub, Montgomery got stuck paying $196.64 in tolls.
Montgomery said, 'You know, my father was a mechanic, and he owned a garage. If I was ever doing that to one of his clients' cars, I didn't want to think what would happen to me.'
Repair Hub told Action 9 it has offered to reimburse Montgomery for the tolls and offered him an extra service package at no charge.
DriveHub also said it remains open to assisting Montgomery in finalizing the toll reimbursements and willing to collaborate toward a fair resolution.
Montgomery said he hadn't heard from anyone at Repair Hub, but Action 9 has now provided him with the direct phone number for one of the owners.

Tested: 2026 Lucid Gravity Dream Edition Is a Magic Bus
A sedan-only lineup is not a winning strategy these days, which is why fledgling automaker Lucid Motors is adding the Gravity SUV, available as either a five- or seven-seater, as a follow-up to its excellent Air sedan. While plenty of us think the Gravity's lozenge form factor and low roof look more minivan than rough-and-tumble SUV, the aerodynamics-first design is great for efficiency and range. While this limited-edition Dream model's summer tires reduce its EPA estimated range figure, the most efficient Grand Touring version earns 450 miles of EPA range, which is 98 percent of what the bluff Cadillac Escalade IQ gets, even though the Lucid has only 60 percent of the Cadillac's battery energy. view exterior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver Despite the low roof, the Gravity's packaging is near-minivan excellent, with a sprawling second row and a third row that's comfortable even for six-plus-footers. Remarkably, the seat cushions are not squashed to the floor to create headroom, so this isn't a knees-in-the-chest situation, either. Interior materials are top-shelf, and the front seats have great wrap-around support. Again, compared with the Escalade iQ, the Gravity has similar passenger space in all three rows, as well as cargo space in back, despite having almost 17 inches less wheelbase and a roofline that's nearly a foot lower. HIGHS: Three roomy rows of seats, Corvette Z06–level acceleration, more fun to drive than other three-row EVs. But enough left-brain talk. Plenty of EVs are quick, but more impressive than the 1070-hp Gravity's 3.1-second rush to 60 mph is the second wave of thrust beyond that speed. The front end lifts, the steering goes light, and the Lucid rockets to an easy 160 mph. Its 10.6-second quarter-mile is neck and neck with a Corvette Z06's, and by 150 mph, the Gravity is nearly a full three seconds ahead. It's the quickest SUV we've ever tested. view interior Photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver view interior Photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver Better than the raw speed is that the Gravity drives with verve heretofore unseen in the ranks of heavy, three-row electric SUVs. It's rare that any vehicle is so unerringly neutral that it wants to go tail out around our 300-foot skidpad—the Toyota GR86 comes to mind—but the Gravity, shockingly, requires countersteer. Its helm is satisfyingly sharp, too, and you can feel the rear-steer system quickening the Gravity's responses. The ride quality is surprisingly reasonable—its air springs no doubt help—especially considering the 22-inch front and 23-inch rear wheels and Pirelli P Zero PZ5 summer tires. And the 1.5-inch-wide front brake rotors look more Le Mans racer than street car—no wonder they haul down the three-ton Gravity with zero fade. LOWS: A few rough edges, lower-spec versions will be better values. There are a few details that feel unfinished. The power mechanism for the second-row seats is loud and moves coarsely, the head-up display is unreadable, the folding mechanism for the third row is wobbly, the lane-centering function can be jerky, and the Gravity erroneously dimmed its infotainment screens repeatedly on a bright summer day. These are issues that the long-standing automakers likely would have addressed, and Lucid could fix at least some of these things with over-the-air software updates. view exterior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver view exterior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver While it remains to be seen how the Gravity might ignite Lucid's sales, as with the Air, lower-powered, less-expensive models will be a much better value. As for its appearance, our staff most frequently compared it to the Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG, a flash-in-the-pan nameplate we loved even if the marketplace didn't. VERDICT: A mega minivan. View Exterior Photos of the 2026 Lucid Gravity Dream Edition
Read the full review | See Interior Photos The Lucid Gravity Dream Edition is a worthy SUV counterpart to the Air Sapphire sedan, combining supercar speed with minivan interior packaging. While more reasonably priced trims will follow, the Dream Edition makes a properly mind-blowing debut for the model. The Gravity reminded more than one of us of the cult-favorite Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG—another quasi-minivan with serious speed. The Gravity has about the same interior dimensions as the Cadillac Escalade EQ, despite its much tidier exterior size. Believe it or not, there's a perfectly comfortable third row in there. The Gravity hits 150 mph a full three seconds quicker than the Corvette Z06. Surprisingly, the Gravity was a lot of fun on the skidpad, requiring countersteer to keep the tail in line. Keep going to see more photos of the Lucid Gravity Dream Edition. Cadillac's Elevated Velocity is a Radical On and Off-Road Performance Concept
Cadillac's Elevated Velocity is a Radical On and Off-Road Performance Concept originally appeared on Autoblog. Set to make its debut during Monterey Car Week, Cadillac's latest show car is a high-performance 2+2 meant to raise the bar for battery-electric vehicles. Quite literally. It's an EV you could show off at the country club, then take it out on the Dakar Rally or an Extreme-E race, said Bryan Nesbitt, the global vice president of design at General Motors. Like the earlier Cadillac Opulent Velocity concept, the new, gullwinged show car is long and wide, but stands significantly higher, with an air suspension designed to handle just about anything you could throw at it, added Brandon Vivian, the project's executive chief engineer. And it's got V-Series power which 'hint(s) at the future of Cadillac performance,' he said during a media backgrounder. Elevated Velocity is loaded with the latest technology – including a 'Sand Vision' system that can help you see through a desert sandstorm, as well as the gloom of night. Meanwhile, the concept vehicle features next-generation autonomous driving and a biometric sensing system that can help occupants slip into a relaxed state of Zen. Cadillac Plugged In Cadillac currently offers five different battery-electric vehicles, from the entry-luxury Optiq to the EV version of its flagship SUV, the Escalade IQ. Elevated Velocity could take the hand-built Caddy Celestiq to new extremes, however. There are some familiar design cues, including the concept's vertical lighting and the crossover's long front end. But the more coupe-like roofline and seamless nose 'serves as a beacon for us,' said Nesbitt, exploring what he suggests will be the next iteration of Cadillac design, dubbed the 'Art of Exhilaration.'. The concept's 24-inch tires and that air suspension, the automaker explains, 'enables occupants to chart the most challenging terrains, while providing a refined and luxurious on-road driving experience.' 2+2+More Officially, Cadillac calls the Elevated Velocity Concept a 2+2. But there's far more interior space than you'd find in a classic sports car or grand tourer thanks to the use of a skateboard-like platform placing key drivetrain components below the load floor. The gullwing doors swing wide, making it easy for occupants to get in and out, whether in the front row or back. The cabin has a decidedly futuristic feel with thin, sculpted seats that might have been inspired by a Hollywood sci-fi adventure. The cabin is finished in various shades of red and features a mix of natural and sustainable materials, including a 3D-printed black crystal. The cargo compartment is fitted with a set of bespoke luggage, including one case carrying a handy outfit for desert polo. View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article The instrument panel is elegant yet spartan. Key instrumentation can be found in the center of the yoke-like steering wheel, and on a display built into the floating center console. That yoke, as well as the pedals, retract when the concept EV is switched to autonomous mode. Elevate Mode Whether driven in the desert or a rain forest, the 'extreme climatization' system filters out sand, dust and smog while compensating for dry air, sudden temperature shifts and altitude changes, Cadillac explains. There are a variety of mode settings the driver can select, including the electric version of the high-performance V-Mode found in today's Caddy V-Series products. Elevate Mode, meanwhile, activates a next-generation autonomous driving system which, unlike today's GM Super Cruise, allows the driver to completely disengage. As the steering wheel and pedals retract, the vehicle's biometric sensors start tracking the driver's pulse, breathing and body temperature. Ambient lighting is automatically switched to red while the seatback activates infrared therapy lighting. 'Doors are backlit to synchronize breathing and movement, furthering the emphasis on recovery.,' notes a news release, while 'a light moves forward and rearwards to aid in breathwork in conjunction with an animation displayed on the cowl to help the occupants get into the headspace for performance.' Drivetrain Cadillac isn't ready to talk about the underlying drivetrain in the Elevated Velocity Concept, but we can take some cues from what we're seeing with the brand's new Lyriq-V, the first all-electric V-Series package. Its twin motors produce a combined 615 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque, the V package can launch from 0-60 in a mere 3.3 seconds, making it the fastest stree-legal model in Cadillac history. If that's not enough, the all-electric GMC Hummer can deliver as much as 1,160 horsepower and an astounding 13,000 pound-feet of torque. Caddy might also borrow Hummer EV's 'crab walk,' and the Escalade EV's four-wheel-steering. Plans for the Future 'This is a real, running vehicle,' Nesbitt told a handful of journalists during a virtual briefing last week. But, like the Opulent Velocity Concept that debuted a year ago, there are no plans to put the new show car into production. But don't think of it as just a fantasy in chrome, the design chief stressed. 'This is an opportunity for Cadillac to test the waters – to see how far we can take electrification and performance -- and encourage feedback' that could influence future products. Look for the Cadillac Elevated Velocity Concept to make its debut on Saturday, August 15 at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering in Monterey, California.
