PN Should Accept Reality After Ayer Kuning Loss, Not Make Excuses

Barnama27-04-2025
MANJUNG, April 27 (Bernama) -- Perikatan Nasional (PN) should accept the reality and not make irrelevant excuses over the outcome of the Ayer Kuning state by-election (PRK) which did not favour them.
Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the claim that PN had succeeded in preventing BN from securing 18,000 votes was merely an excuse to cover the opposition party's poor performance.
"The PN leadership should instead conduct a post-mortem to identify the real causes behind their defeat in the seat contested by PAS during the by-election.

"This is completely different from BN and the Unity Government, which have accepted previous by-election defeats with an open heart and a professional attitude," he told reporters after officiating the Closing Ceremony of the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) TechnoXplorer 2025 programme at SMK Ahmad Boestamam here today.
Zambry, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, was commenting on the statement made yesterday by Perak PAS election director Mohd Fakhrudin Abd Aziz, who said PN had succeeded in blocking BN's ambition to secure 18,000 votes in the by-election.
Meanwhile, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the country's stability under the administration of the Unity Government was a key factor considered by the people in determining their support.

"For me, the Unity Government is still relatively new, and many remain suspicious. Our task is to show the people that, regardless of political differences, the most important thing is for the country to remain stable.
"What is the point of having a government that changes prime ministers two or three times? Not only the people, but also foreign investors would view the country as unstable. So how can we convince them to invest in the long term?" he said.
The Minister of Plantation and Commodities made these remarks to reporters after attending the Appreciation Ceremony of the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, today.

Penang DAPSY calls for cutting political ties with Umno youth chief over extreme conduct

DAPSY claimed that Dr Akmal's recent actions pose 'a serious violation of the country's laws' and contradict the Unity Government's commitment to diversity. Penang DAPSY urges DAP and National DAPSY to cut all forms of political cooperation with Umno Youth Chief, especially ahead of the upcoming general election. Photo for illustration purpose. Photo: BERNAMA FILE PIX GEORGE TOWN – The Penang DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) has urged both DAP and national-level DAPSY to completely end political cooperation with Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, citing his alleged extreme political behaviour and threats to national harmony. In a statement on Friday, Penang DAPSY claimed that Dr Akmal's recent actions pose 'a serious violation of the country's laws' and contradict the Unity Government's commitment to diversity. 'Dr Akmal's action of openly threatening the prosecutor and subsequently organising a gathering is a serious violation of the country's laws. 'This behaviour contradicts the stance of the Unity Government that embraces diversity and deliberately fuels racial sentiments, thereby undermining public confidence in the government's ability to maintain national stability,' it said on Friday. The Youth wing also criticised Dr Akmal for allegedly downplaying past incidents, including when Umno Youth Terengganu and Pas used the wrong version of the national flag. They further accused him of stoking racial hatred in line with the opposition's political narrative. 'Although Umno is part of the Unity Government, he seems to be a tool of Perikatan Nasional to create problems and disrupt the government's administration,' the statement added. Penang DAPSY stressed that any breaches of the Flag Act should be addressed by authorities and not used as political leverage. 'The patriotism slogan often championed by Akmal is nothing more than cheap political capital for personal gain. "When politicians are allowed to act outside the framework of the law while inciting racial hatred, Malaysia will become a country that frightens its own people,' it said. The group reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rule of law, dignity, and safety of every Malaysian citizen. The call came after a 500-strong crowd from Umno, Pas and Bersatu, led by Dr Akmal, marched during the 'Jalur Gemilang Solidarity Gathering – Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku' in Kepala Batas ahead of National Day. The march turned tense when another group, led by Lawyers for Liberty Malaysia Director Zaid Malek, displayed placards reading 'Don't Be a Zionist' and 'Don't Bully'. No arrests or incidents were reported after the gathering dispersed. Meanwhile, Dr Akmal said that any move to sever ties with him should not be viewed in isolation from the organisation he represents. 'Cutting ties with me means cutting ties with Umno Youth, which means cutting ties with Umno. Ok. Bring it on,' he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

Sabah State Election seen as Umno's battle for survival

The election results will serve as a clear indicator of the party's prospects in the 16th General Election (GE16). Sabah Umno Information Chief Suhaimi Nasir called the upcoming Sabah State Election a do-or-die battle for the party's survival. SHAH ALAM – Sabah Umno Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir has described the upcoming Sabah state election as a do-or-die fight for the party's political survival. Speaking to Free Malaysia Today at Parliament earlier today, the Libaran Member of Parliament (MP) admitted a major challenge lies ahead as the party strives to reclaim its pre-14th General Election (GE14) dominance. Suhaimi Nasir. Photo SINAR HARIAN/MOHD HALIM ABDUL WAHID He believes the election results will serve as a clear indicator of the party's prospects in the 16th General Election (GE16). 'I see that is what will happen (Umno's survival for GE16), but if we win this state election and form the government, we are confident of securing at least 12 parliamentary seats,' Suhaimi said. Sabah currently accounts for seven of the 30 parliamentary seats Barisan Nasional (BN) won in the 2022 GE. Suhaimi pointed to Beluran, Batu Sapi and Kota Belud as constituencies BN could recapture with a decisive victory. 'In Kota Belud, for example, the people see the incumbent (Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis from Warisan) has served two terms and the people do not want to remain in the opposition,' he said. BN is expected to contest 38 state seats, with 90 per cent of its candidates already confirmed. Last month, political analyst Bilcher Bala suggested that Sabah Umno is in its weakest position ahead of the election due to internal disagreements between state party chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his deputy Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan. Abdul Rahman has previously said the party's decision to leave the state government in January 2023 was a major error. He said the move weakened its influence and made it harder to protect the people's interests, leading to the loss of four ministerial posts, six assistant minister positions and over 2,000 grassroots roles formerly held by Umno leaders. Bung has since urged his deputy to stop revisiting past issues, stating that the withdrawal of support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was a collective decision by the state Umno leadership, not his alone.
